- 330 ohm Resistor
- 50v 4.7uf capacitor
- relay 5v
- TV remote OR any remote
- ir receiver
- BC 547 transistor
- 1n4007 diode

And i want to ask whether this ir receiver works for particular remotes or for all remotes?
Bro it will work with any remote.......I've personally tried it out or else if you have doubt......you can simply try removing ir transmitter led from old remote and connect it to a battery..............it works.....!

Unfortunately the only room in which your project could potentially be useful is a room where you don't use ANY other remotely controlled devices.
Every single action on a remote control will toggle the relay. Since your circuit is using a TSOP IR receiver, it will react to all the IR signals having a carrier of 38Khz, therefore if you're listening to the TV and change the channel or adjust the volume, the light will react to each key press.
The IR beam isn't "concentrated" like a laser beam would be, so you don't even need to aim at your receiver to trigger it. The IR signal can even bounce on an object or a wall and will be strong enough to trigger the relay.
Be also careful because IR signals vary from one remote to another. Some of them have a rather lengthy repeat cycle when a key is held down which may lead to a situation where the relay will turn on and off rapidly.
Overall this is an old concept. Easy to understand and play with. Nevertheless, a good understanding is mandatory to allow customization and prevent false expectations or deceptions.
To present the idea, your circuit is just fine. Additional work is required if you want to use this project in an area where the use of remote controls isn't limited to simply toggle a lamp on and off.

Ic do not needs programming cause it's a cd 4017 you just need understand how it works and it will be easy to make it. Download the datasheet it's a better way to know about it.
