A couple of weeks ago, you had basically convinced me to get the Photon Mono 2 as a budget printer. Now you've convinced me to get this one. Looking forward to you overturning it all again in a fortnight. The detail on this is astonishing for such a cheap machine. I'm kind of blown away by how home resin printing has changed in the last couple of years.
Fun fact about USB placement. Puting it in front is always more expensive! Its becose manufacturers need to add cost and labour to instal USB extender, when on back thay litteraly just using what is already in printers motherboard. It is a real cost cutting and not a "smart placement"
The motherboard is custom for this machine. They could easily locate the USB in the front of they wanted to. I do plenty of pcba design layouts in the electronics industry.
@@bill72pa Nope its not custom. Just classic Chitu board. If they will place it in front it will be on the way of light source. I disassembled couple of them it wont fit there with standart board. And custom board will also make it more expensive.
Great review. I am really amazed how Phrozen managed to one up the regular 8k and make it so much cheaper. PS. I almost skipped yours and Dennys' videos because of the drama in the thumbnails ;)
Hi great review!!! Quick question, every time it finishes a print it returns to the top of the rail and the dripping resin splashes on the inside of the lid. So my question is wouldn’t those resin drops fall into the y axis or probably freeze the motor if they manage to get inside and get cured during a print? Or create bumps? It so how is that avoidable can it be set to not reach the top?
I like that it's cheaper than most resin printers, seriously makes me consider getting into resin printing. Which would allow me to print some custom pieces for an awesome space marine chapter idea I have. Also, love the retro lego theme. So much nostalgia 😍
Don't give phrozen a pass on the 1 second exposure minimum. That is a huge problem. I exclusively use translucent, quick exposure resins. They'll absolutely need exposure times under 1 second with this machine. What's the solution? Increase layer thickness? No thanks. I have no interest in this machine. The only advantages this machine has over the original 8k is anti aliasing and light output. The latter is as much a problem as it is a benefit. Anycubic has the M5S a 12k machine launching soon. It's a higher res machine, with auto leveling. They're also claiming some pretty absurd speeds. It'll be interesting to see what they get right. Hopefully they finally launch a product with working AA.
Exactly what I was thinking. It’s kind of unclear why they stated the x resolution will be 19 microns and added nothing about the y resolution, also the price is yet to be revealed , but they say it’s got auto leveling too. My first 3D printer will definitely be one of them
I was thinking to myself and the beginning that the lid looked like my old Lego bits 😂 it's a nice looking printer although the side facing USB will annoy me because it limits where I'd be able to set it up.
The vat leveling thing is great, until the build plate gets bound up and punches a hole in your FEP. pouring like that is the same as long pouring beer, to get the bubbles out. Are you saying you support and encourage watching Denny's Wang? I'm guessing you are a wang watcher.

US$270 is AU$400. I'd love to see the wrangling and excuse making for tripling the price locally. Oh, oh, oh, it's taxes, something something....
Onestly I'm surprised, I have now a photon mono 4k, but if this was available few months before i might have considered it. Phrozen was always good, but outside my price range.
Still happy with my choice of the GKTwo ... well will be once it arrives (basically local dealer is waiting for stock so they are coming to his customers directly from Manufacturer - which is apparently your fault ;-) )
I have both 8K and 8KS, both are great and I really like your review. The only few downsides I have with the 8KS is that one 1cm heigh can come in handy, but i think the majority won't reality notice and the other thing is that it doesn't support multislicing. It's something a lot of folks won't really care again, but for my projects where I do need that smoother 25um or 35um layer, but don't want to print the entire model in that configuration can be a tad annoying especially if it's a tall model, but again that's more of my issue with the machine, that a lot of people won't care. Also job files are not interchangeable with the regular Mini 8K, it uses a different format for some reason, but then again it's not the same machine so makes sense why it's like that.
Very nice detail, with some nice quality of life improvements as well! Wish I'd gotten in on this at the preorder price, but still a great deal at $100 more. Incredible the quality possible now for less than $400.
One year at Xmas someone bought my kids some personalised chairs. My mother in laws boyfriend offered to help build them. He then proceeded to take my PZ1 Wera from the set and use it in some Phillips #3 screws. Being as polite as I could to the in-laws partner I suggested “hold on, I’ll get the bigger screwdriver”. Guess i should list a *spoiler alert* here as well lol I saw the 😉 on your comment on Wangs short. I figured it was more in jest the an actual aggressive call out. Meaning there was an explanation for the misleading info. I may consider this printer as my 1st resin printer to start instead of starting with the GK2 or another 10" plate. Just because of the lower cost to get started.
How large of bust can these print? Do you have availability in your schedule to make a video of you trying to print as large of a figure as possible on the mini 8ks? I trust your reviews the most, thank you in advance
I've been running my old Mars 2 Pro for so long now that I was looking for something to upgrade to, this is looking like a winner to me. I have thought about getting a bigger machine, but honestly I think a smaller build plate keeps my impulses in check so I don't print too much. I am very much looking forward to the faster print times and higher resolution.
Came very close to buying a Uniformation GK 2 to upgrade from my old Mars 2 Pro (which has been great). I was always temped by the original Phrozen Mini 8K but couldn't justify the price. I don't really need a larger printer right now and space is at a premium. This retains the higher print resolution of the Mini 8K but without the AA bug and at a much lower price. I do wish the power and USB were on the front. Just waiting to see the details of the new Anycubic M5 and M5s next week which apparently will have a 12k screen and a larger print vol but I suspect I'll be pre-ordering the Mini 8K S.
In general, I think that the printer makers need to really *really* improve their QC. So many stories of people that get one of these top line printers that everyone loves but it's a lemon out of the box. I'm also in this category. Got a Saturn 2. It basically couldn't print anything bigger than an Guardsmen and after a month the LCD died and now I'm waiting for Elegoo to ship me a new one... to the US... from China... via DHL (the worst shipper on God's Green Earth).
Great review....as usual! I bought the Anycubic Photon M3 Premium 8k mainly because of your review of it and because I need the build volume...and I'm very happy with what I'm getting. I don't see the necessity for a 22micron machine yet. Keep up what you're doing!
Being able to print high quality minis with lower exposure times (=faster!) seems like the best thing about this printer. I'd love printing more stuff quicker.
Interesting, so why can you print at .2 sec on 8ks and the regular 8k requires longer exposure time? Also I already own an 8k but that cover is beautiful and it would match all those Lego sets I own already. 😂
lol i was thinking the same thing when i see the green lid with the lego, just wish i could print a little Tenjin like you do ive still not had any luck with the pre supported files oh well never mind maybe one day :)
Spoiler alert! Quite clickbaity but partially true)😂 He wasn't lying it just can't perform shorter than 1sec on hardware but the software still can show the wrong time.
That's a perfect news for me! I was going to buy mini 8k next month as my first printer, but 770$ (in europe) was a huge cost for it :( But now i have no doubt to buy mini 8ks :) Thanks for this video!
8k Printer at 260$ is insane. How far we came! It does itch a bit, having a monoX, so I don´t know if upgrade to a mighty or just add this for smaller bits at higher resolution
I like how crisp the print is on this 8k printer..I also like how Phrozon have offered this printer at a cheaper price point, which is particularly good for someone like me who wants to get I to resin 3D printing. 😊
Hi. Great review! You mentioned voxel artifacts. Did you do any AA testing? I currently use my sm8k for jewelry casting so I’m looking for the least amount of course. Thanks for the video!
Really want to get the Unfiformation machine for its heater (saving up the pennies), but would love this to replace my anycubic machine which is out of commission due to resin spill on screen, all machine should be fitted with screen protectors.
Man you unlocked a memory with those Lego sets, they were so cool! Love that there is a screen protector included as standard, had to scrape cured resin off my Anycubic Photon screen once and it was a nightmare 😂
Would you choose the sonic mini 8k s over the saturn 2 8k, both around the same price, 370ish? The 8ks is 22 microns, the saturn 2 8k is 28, but it has a larger volume. From your video, I understood that there is really not much difference between 28 and 22 microns.
This is a very exciting printer. As I said on Facebook I was skeptical of this printer due to the singular linear rail. Other then the a couple issues with the software(bed lifting after print and exposure time) this thing is doing everything I would be after at a great price.
Hi Ross, I am looking right now for my first printer... My budget is around 300-400 and my space is limited, so would you rate this printer over the mars 4 ultra (with FEP instead of the ACF film)
I would rate this over the 4 ultra yeah. But you may be better with a Saturn 2/3 - comparably similar in print quality with a larger build area at a similar price

I kinda feel sad that I bought the anycubic photon mono 2 + wash and cure 2.0 before watching this video. I live in Ecuador and well, basically the printer and the wash and cure got just under $500, and this one would be like mmm $570, oh well, lets see if next year I can buy another printer for bigger things (or buy a filament printer and use that one for big props and the resin one for the details)
This was super helpful. I’m in the market for a 3D printer. I really liked that printed “test” card which showed how different sized bits would print. Super helpful!
@@jasoncombs3232 That is a tab beyond my price point, however, if you think I should really wait until I can afford that model, I will take your advice. But what if I wanted a printer between 200-300 USD?
@@johnjenkins8471 you really Cant go wrong with any elegoo product. But aim for a 8k printer. I mainly do large prints so I'm not familiar with cheaper products.
Just a small suggestion… maybe look up what "broken" means? This word is used multiple times in this video and is prominent in the thumbnail, despite a screenful of text saying it's "not really broken". The thumbnail alone gives the impression that there's something really wrong with the printer when the only thing that's broken is the way you use this common word.
At 13:58 you say .02 instead of .2 just so you know(sorry i know its probably annoying, it just stood out to me). also you already have over 16k views convrats!
Once they fix the exposure This looks like it will be a good printer. I don't feel like you should get buyers remorse. The printers have gotten so good that the marginal improvement just doesn't feel significant to me

lol i was thinking the same thing when i see the green lid with the lego, just wish i could print a little Tenjin like you do ive still not had any luck with the pre supported files oh well never mind maybe one day :)
Are you by chance going to revisit this printer with the new firmware V3214 that supposedly fixes inconsistent exposure times? Thanks.
Probably in the future, but I’m so busy now. I will definitely be using Phrozen products more frequently.
«Like comment and subscribe so I can buy more Lego»
Yes, my lord. Thy will be done
Spoiler alert!
Quite clickbaity but partially true)😂 He wasn't lying it just can't perform shorter than 1sec on hardware but the software still can show the wrong time.
dude, Spoiler alert! lol
haha, nice fix!
I love that this printer gives new users an affordable 8K entry point.
That's a perfect news for me! I was going to buy mini 8k next month as my first printer, but 770$ (in europe) was a huge cost for it :( But now i have no doubt to buy mini 8ks :) Thanks for this video!
Thanks, please use my links before you purchase so I can get a commission
I will start in the 3d printing Hobby and this is a good Chance for a great start
8k Printer at 260$ is insane. How far we came! It does itch a bit, having a monoX, so I don´t know if upgrade to a mighty or just add this for smaller bits at higher resolution
Either get this, or wait. Just a little longer
Because of you, all i see is the Lego Blacktron...very nice lol
the most impressing thing is the exposure time, i thougt my 2,3sek ist quite fast, BUT this is insane
I like how crisp the print is on this 8k printer..I also like how Phrozon have offered this printer at a cheaper price point, which is particularly good for someone like me who wants to get I to resin 3D printing. 😊
I like the yellow lid on the 8KS. And the price point is great too. But it still woulg be nice to win one in the giveaway.
Hi. Great review! You mentioned voxel artifacts. Did you do any AA testing? I currently use my sm8k for jewelry casting so I’m looking for the least amount of course. Thanks for the video!
Yeah, at the end when I do the aa tests. Looking at Denny’s Wang video it no longer has the issue of No AA on X axis you get true AA in X and Y now
Really want to get the Unfiformation machine for its heater (saving up the pennies), but would love this to replace my anycubic machine which is out of commission due to resin spill on screen, all machine should be fitted with screen protectors.
Man you unlocked a memory with those Lego sets, they were so cool!
Love that there is a screen protector included as standard, had to scrape cured resin off my Anycubic Photon screen once and it was a nightmare 😂
Why do you pour it on build plate? And which video is it that you explain why you pour it on plate and not vat
I've got a Photon mono and I like that this printer has a great increase in resolution compared. Also love the installed screen protector.
I level all my printers in the vat
I do appreciate all of the info. I'm looking to buy my first printer for wargaming, and this is the main printer I'm looking at.
this is still the best Small Format Printer
so why did you pour resin in that way? from the top of the plate? i couldnt find the answer :C
Would you choose the sonic mini 8k s over the saturn 2 8k, both around the same price, 370ish? The 8ks is 22 microns, the saturn 2 8k is 28, but it has a larger volume.
From your video, I understood that there is really not much difference between 28 and 22 microns.
Nah, I’d prefer the larger build plate
Nice way to mix resin. I do that too. The bubbles uugh.
The price point has got to be the most impressive thing, what a printer for such an incredible price!
This is a very exciting printer. As I said on Facebook I was skeptical of this printer due to the singular linear rail. Other then the a couple issues with the software(bed lifting after print and exposure time) this thing is doing everything I would be after at a great price.
This is a struggle. I am sorely tempted by the "Mighty." Finances say no though.
Im looking to get a resin printer and this would be great if i could find it locally. Like the new yellow tint cover.

pin the comment?
@@jackbeattie7390 thought I had, ooops, thanks fir the reminder. It’s in description also
This will probably be my first 3d printer
@@davelogeman amazing place to start
September 31st? Are you sure it's happening on that day, because i'm looking at the calendar right now and there is no September 31st, 2023
Cling film or fablon on the inside of the top, helps keep the lid clean
Still using the same stick that came with my sonic mini, 0 issues whatsoever 😂
great review, have been looking to get printer, quality of this printer is amazing especially at the price
That level of detail is insane for the price point.
I kinda feel sad that I bought the anycubic photon mono 2 + wash and cure 2.0 before watching this video. I live in Ecuador and well, basically the printer and the wash and cure got just under $500, and this one would be like mmm $570, oh well, lets see if next year I can buy another printer for bigger things (or buy a filament printer and use that one for big props and the resin one for the details)
be happy with what you have, this was outshone by the Mars 4 within a few weeks of it's release
This was super helpful. I’m in the market for a 3D printer. I really liked that printed “test” card which showed how different sized bits would print. Super helpful!
Get a elegoo saturn 2.
You won't regret it.
You don't adjust the exposure settings in Chitubox. You have to adjust the resin profiles via the printer's internal computer...
Eh
Yeah, putting the USB on the side is less convenient. Even I can see that.
this would be a nice upgrade from my photon s
I level my sonic mini 4k the same way.
Actually, i like the price the most for that quality.
Yeah I am aware of what I am doing, that was done on purpose and is explained in the video as a joke between me and Dennys Wang.
For the Legos. Good video review.
Would you still get this over the Anycubic Photon D2? I'm really really deciding between these two and the new Saturn 3, thanks
For the price, yes, easily
Helping to pay for the amazing Legos. Great review for a great printer
At 13:58 you say .02 instead of .2 just so you know(sorry i know its probably annoying, it just stood out to me). also you already have over 16k views convrats!
Nice try, but the videos not even nearly at 50k views and your name couldn't be more obvious.
biggest win is the form factor and the price honestly, should be a great entry point for a great printer
Once they fix the exposure This looks like it will be a good printer. I don't feel like you should get buyers remorse. The printers have gotten so good that the marginal improvement just doesn't feel significant to me
No, thankfully we are getting last the point of useful resolution upgrades
Great review thank you. Think I may have found my next printer 🙌
I like the look of the cost most haha
I guess, you pour the resin over the build plate to give it a deep pour, to reduce bubbles
dang i want one but i already own a printer but not this one.. thanks Ross take care brother
Also I think you pour high for less bubbles or air in the resin and it may even assist in mixing in case you didn’t have a the resin mixed thoroughly?
