As someone who came from warhammer 40k and wanted to know what the Japanese are up to these days, I made multiple observations. 1. Oh by the gods it moves. 2. You don't even need to paint these. 3. You don't have to sell your organs to afford one of these. I think I'll pick one up. I kinda enjoy the design, even if I'm not into gundam.
@@kidrobot. has it already been two years since I posted this? Time flies. I know, I looked far more into gunpla after I fell out of love with warhammer. Still not an expert on the setting or anything, but I am addicted to eastern model kits now.
@@boneman-calciumenjoyer8290 sorry, i meant at the time you bought that, not in general, but yeah, they have advanced quite a long way since and cool, ive always wanted to try one of those, how is it? do you know about megami device and 30 minute sisters?
Late to the party, but I've been getting back into Gunpla after about a 30 year absence! This Z'Gok isn't good in terms of articulation and poseability, but IMHO the colours and the actual look of the model means that I for one will be seeking it out. Don't bring out the lynch mob, but doesn't the very nature of a marine MS mean that they are chunky and clunky and don't have the acrobatic prowess of a Shaolin Monk.. What's the crush depth on these things? These MS's are more akin to our present day Atmospheric Diving Suits I think.
Honestly I'd just spring for the old 1989 1/144 scale model of this. It's a significantly better model kit whose only crime is being a little limited articulation-wise.
well fun fact this suit was used in space as well along side geara dogas and it performed well it also has a cruise form which is it just tucking in its limbs for a more stream lined body and for transport…… i love this suit… its a shame bandai didnt do better with it i hope it gets a revive that fixes it
i just completed this kit. I was displeased by the design of the kit but i love the mobile suit. I painted mine and it looks very good now. posing is a no go but i still was pleased with the build overall
I love the Zgok E. The torso doesn’t sit straight, the arms had to be glued because they’d burst outward and are a hassle to reassemble, the front skirting isn’t symmetrical. But still. One of my favorite MS so it’s one of my favorite decorations.
Completely agree especially given the price point, they four year older Z'gok is a couple of hundred yen cheaper, and clearly the superior model. And I had the exact opposite problem with the arms on my build, they were so stiff, I chewed up the polycap moving them around.
I think that the only reason this kit exists is to satisfy the major fans of War in the Pocket who want to complete their cyclops team collection with the Alex
Question: is it possible to replace the upper arms and legs on this kit with a production Z'Gok's upper arms and legs and/or take the forearms and forelegs and put them on a standard Z'Gok? Might make this kit salvageable.
I have one. Yeah pose this is hard but mine was ok for the arms at least. You won't be disapointed by the hy-gogg that's a cool kit and they look really nice together (plus it's one of the easyest kit to give a led mono-eye. It really gives him a bit of life)
I actually kind of like the orange cockpit. It doesn't look like a beaver tooth like on the original, which is probably my only real complaint about the regular Z'Gok. It's so clear they didn't give a damn. I like the way it looks, it someone put effort in, unlike Bandai, and tried to fix its flaws, but it'd be a lot of effort better spent on another kit, probably. If this was 1000 yen, it'd still be a crummy kit, but I could accept it easier. 1200 for this is crappier than Nemos being 1500 as far as paying more than it's really worth.
Design wise, I like this kit quite a bit. But the segmented parts are driving me crazy! I also agree on the articulation being limited...should of been like the original z'gok... ;-;
Personally I like clear pieces, because it is easier to add leds and I do not have to cut as much and it will be more accurate. I wish they would have more kits with clear mono eyes.
Trust me the HY Gogg is a big improvement over the Zgok E and yes I bought the Zgok E and was disappointed by it. Would ever consider getting the Zee Zulu or the Zogok?
I know it's dumb, but I kinda enjoy seeing the Z'gok fall apart after watching it wreck GMs in 0080. Sucks for those who like the design though. Hopefully it'll get a revive along with all the other 0080 MSs (please Bandai we want a GM Sniper II with a double jointed arm).
i built this guy last night and mine came out fine . but i do understand a bit where you're coming from. but also to be fair the way the arms and leg scales are shaped is why they're are on a rod.
The arms fall off easily, posing is limited and doesn't work with an action base unless you drill a hole in this kit. I'm a 0080 fan so this kit was a must have but it needs work to make it look amazing.
Yeah, I tried... It's too wide between the legs for the 1/144 action base so you can't lock it in inside the hip joints. Definitely will need to drill a hole to get it on the base since it's an old HG without a plug.
I tried it. Was big enough but just barely. I'm sure it can be added to an action base 2 using this connection. These suits are meant to be on action bases with all the detail they have like the hygogg.
awww..i just bought this kit last weekend to pair it with my hygogg..seems bandai didnt put enough effort to this one..really sad..and it would take few more decades to seethis one on REVIVE project..great review.
I just got this even knowing you said it stunk and it stinks on ice. Those arms are a pain in the ass and are hard to pose. It’s also the only time panel lines bugged me.
thank god i waited for your review of this kit before i bought it. i like the suit but godamn that's a shitty kit. thanks kakarot for saving me from buyers remorse
My one’s arm does not fall off easily and stays up quite well but then again my one has a blue Bandai logo on the box so it is released more recently and probably has an advantage over yours
crazy! I was just messing with my purple Zgok the day before to see if I could tighten up the arms. and found out it also doesn't work well on the action base either. sad face
It's quite unfair to use modern standard to judge this old kit. Z'Gok E was a decent kit back then. The arm segment was a design choice. There was no way Bandai could do individual movable segment unless they change Z'Gok E's arm design to something like Z'Gok's. The alternative choice to Z'Gok E's arm would be making all the segment into one piece which would have better stability and cost way less for Bandai but lose all the nice details.
+sageyou99 Unfair? Modern standard? I compared it to the original Z'gok, which is 4 years older(and much better). The Z'gok E was unimpressive even at the time of its release. Its arms are weaker than most of the 90's models.
+Kakarot197 Sorry , my bad. I somehow got that impression even though you were comparing Z'gok and Z'Gok E side by side. While the arms are weak and look awkward in dynamic poses, the thighs look great with all the individual segments. I also find the overall look of HGUC Z'Gok E unimpressive but bought the kit anyway because of the unique build of the legs and arms. Actually, I find most of HGUC 0080 kits to have some major flaws in their looks but that's just me.
this is a kit you have to mod. no way acceptable out of the box as a snap-build. I was lucky to have pla-plate and rods to improve the articulation and scale pieces.
I bought this kit because i thought it looked cool and i love all zeon suits but i was quote disappointed with this kit for sure. But it does look cool!
The peg that holds the entire arm on the right side internally I ended up gluing, the scales I left alone but it did help and didnt do anything bad to the articulation.
the Water combat MS models tend to be a bit under average particularly in general 0080 kits I think the Alex and GM Sniper 2 and Zaku II kai were the only ones they put effort into. its sad cause i wanted the Gelgoog Jagaer but i was disappointed to learn they did not improve it much from the old no grade I had aside from ball joints. and my friend Loves the Z'gok-E but now i dont want to even bothe getting him this if he can not enjoy it.
