  • Being told by his doctor "the pain is normal" and "just give it time" wasn't good enough for Jesse. His pain from a serious motorcycle accident only compounded after undergoing a serious traditional open back surgery. In only his 30s, Jesse found himself sitting on the sidelines in a wheelchair during family outings and unable to pick up his kid. Tired of waiting for the healing relief his doctor claimed would come, Jesse turned to Dr. Hooman Melamed for a second opinion.
    Dr. Melamed, a Top US Spine Surgeon, reviewed Jesse's MRI and discovered that the previous surgeon did not set the spine fusion correctly with supportive bone graft. This caused rods screwed into Jesse's spine to break and his vertebrae to rub together, leading to immense pain and weakness. Dr. Melamed immediately scheduled Jesse for surgery in order to correct the damage.
    Today, Jesse is a happy father and never missing a moment to make lasting memories with his family. "I think people that hold a standard, like Dr. Melamed, and cares for patients after the surgery and is really involved, those are the doctors that should be out there treating people," said Jesse.

    I have a failed SI joint fusion. Doctors do this surgery left and right. UNFORTUNATELY, when the fusion fails, there aren't many who are qualified to perform the revision surgery, which leaves us in a horrible situation. They don't know what to do, so they nothing. After nearly 2 years post fusion, I have just now found a doctor who claims to be able to do the revision, but he could be a hack for all I know. Very scary stuff.

      So sorry for your issues Part of the problem could be that your original issue was not coming from your SI joint. Too many patients have gotten unnecessary SI joint fusion.
      If you would like, we can set up a in person or telemedicine appointment with Dr. Melamed to go over your issues and to see what recommendations he may have for you. Although Dr. Melamed does not do revision SI joints surgery but certainly he knows the correct surgeon and can guide you if that is what is truly needed. Please feel free to email us info@thespinepro.com

    What are symptoms of a Lumbar Fusion that does not FUSE? Why did no one see the broken rods on an MRI or CT Scan?

    • @TheSpinePro
      @TheSpinePro  3 года назад +2

      Increasing Low back pain and possible shooting pain down the leg. It's not that the surgeon doesn't see the broken rods, unfortunately most patients are not told the real truth and some surgeons frankly cover this up. It is a shame that patients are not told the truth. I tell all patients to always seek 2nd and 3rd opinions if they still have pain to make sure nothing is missed.

      @@TheSpinePro Thanks for the reply and the information. I was told by my surgeon after L4/L5 that he is not sure if I am fused or not? It's been a year and 4 months and I just had a CT Scan and he is not sure? I keep thinking my issue is L5/S1 but he keeps going back to L4/L5? I had a diagnostic procedure recently, with an injection of a numbing type lidocaine type medicine with "no" steroid at L5/S1 to see if I got relief. I knew it would only last about 4 or 5 hours and I absolutely did feel better. My hip and butt pain went away and I was able to move better than I have in the last year, which I assumed would tell him that L5/S1 is the issue? I was supposed to have surgery in August where my surgeon was going to go in and check L4/L5 and if he felt movement refuse that level then fuse L5/S1, but my surgeon left the practice a week ago so now I am scrambling to find other surgeons to talk with.

    Hey doc how do I get an online consultation with you? I’m from a country far from yours and it’s impossible to reach you.
    I had a L4-5 fusion 5months ago due to debilitating low back pain (suspected L4-5 disc degeneration). Couldn’t sit/stand/walk more than 10-15min at a time without bad low back pain and also a sensation of heaviness in my back like I’m carrying extra weight in my low back. That heaviness was felt on my legs. After the surgery my back pain actually increased along with heaviness sensation. Now my foot hurts bad. Can’t walk more than 15-20min without horrible pain in my feet. I don’t know what to do now. Can you help me in any way?
