DSP seems to be operating under the assumption that his inputs should instantly override every animation his currently doing and it's why he keeps on crying about pressing the block button when his character is clearly attack, moving or getting hit (in other words already doing an animation).
Games certainly can drop inputs, something like a ton of action going on and frames dropping could cause it. However, if the game was doing it at the rate he says, which is possibly at least once or twice each match (or even round), the game would never have been released in that state. There have been replay view videos and similar showing his dropped inputs are because HE dropped them. he needs to keep calm and/or quiet so that when he gets a hit in he can then continue into the combo. This "pattern" play is simply his opponent knowing from muscle memory what to do when X happens, be it block string, hit confirm or counter. I played SF4 a lot when I was younger, going back and watching some of my replays I'm amazed how fast the game seems and I'm surprised at how I could react to stuff, and I really just worked with fundamentals and did more classic SF2 play, I never went for 1 frame links and advanced combos. Phil simply needs to play SF6 more, practice more and do warm ups before his sessions along with little breaks throughout. He could also use the unique SF6 systems more. He could also just pick new characters to go through online with, but that would potentially destroy some of his excuses.

I play SF6 and I can tell you the “skill” is in the neutral game ie mix ups and set ups, then and only then can you do a “pattern” optimal combo. Furthermore, that optimal combo varies wildly depending on if you want corner carry, oki (wake up mix up), or if they are in the corner of if it’s off a punish counter. There are safe set ups and pokes and optimal combos, but there is no such things as unbeatable “pattern play.”

Phil wants to keep his boosted initial rank which is why he plays casual. Master rank doesn’t mean anything, MR ranking does. 1200 is intermediate at best 2000+ is a sf6 god, both are master rank.
