  • Human remains have been found in a car submerged in water near the city of Hampton, according to Franklin County Sheriff Aaron Dodd.
The vehicle is believed to have been owned by Ethan Kazmerzak, who went missing in September 2013.
The remains have not yet been identified.
Kazmerzak was last seen on Sept. 15, 2013 near the body of water that a dive team found his car in Monday.
According to the sheriff's office, the body of water had been searched through twice to find any evidence of Kazmerzak.

AWP is doing a fantastic service to everyone and I love their mission. I watched their video about this search and they did state they returned because one of their viewers pointed out to them that they needed to check a specific body of water that they hadn't checked out the month earlier. So in kudos as well to that AWP viewer who pointed them back to the right pond!!
Way to go Jared, Sam and Dan at Adventures With Purpose, that Awesome Tipster Viewer, Ethan's community, LEO and rescue/recovery professionals, all the property owners, the dive recovery teams, AWP supporters and the youtube community!
Prayers to the family and may their hearts heal with good memories of Ethan.

He just wanted to find Ethan and he didn't care who or what had to be done. He was literally just happy the case was resolved. He also deserves credit for helping AWP with their videos, which fund their efforts and keep them searching for others.

Either way, AWP did a great service in recovering Ethan and getting closure for the next of kin, community. Now someone needs to ensure the sheriff's department has the best equipment and training for any future rescues/recoveries.....hold a public fund raiser....... Don't pass blame

@@chordsofgratitude2073 That's not fare to blame any previous persons whom searched the pond prior. As was mentioned the search was 7 years prior and at best the equipment used was new at the time and sonar technology has improved tremendously in the last several years. The sonar unit could have been an older unit even when this search was initially done lessening it's capability compared to the 6 month old unit the Adventures with Purpose folks have.
It's a sad deal that the car was missed on the prior 2 looks but I am relatively certain there was no malintent. As for purchasing new gear I'll tell you first hand that many smaller police departments have to scratch and claw for many of the resources they have. While I'm not a police officer I used to work as a radio technician programming the P25 radios public safety persons use. There is ALOT of older equipment in these departments that are hand me downs from federal agencies or state agencies. I remember digging through our junk and scrap piles rounding as many E-PROM chips and vehicle wiring harness as possible for long outdated (support ended in the late 90s) Sentor-X low band VHF radios in 2007 for NEW installs for a small police department. Yep, these were their NEW radios, the scraps from a State agency that had removed theirs from their fleet. So it would not surprise me if the sonar used in the previous searches was a hand me down similar to the Sentor example.

      @chordsofgratitude2073 3 года назад +1

@Jayss10: I guess you didn't understand what I posted. I wasn't blaming the sherrif at all, but the deputy was rude as all get out.... I did say that the sheriff's department should get additional equipment, training and maybe additional deputies....if that requires an expanded budget, then request more funds or hold public fundraisers.... Hello Folks, I became aware of this story today Dec 10, 2020. I initially watched the video provided by Adventures with Purpose first and I have to admit that it moved me deeply. I am a Parent and if one of my children went missing for any amount of time I would move mountains to find them. With DNA technology today the autopsy will be performed and a toxicology breakdown will be performed to determine cause of death. Those answers will come with time, usually with a 6 month window or so. To the questions of why Ethan was not found earlier cannot be answered with precision. There are many factors. The Weather, the wind, was there any runoff. The water becomes murky when agitated raising minerals and sediments that will interfere with accurate sonar reading. Magnetic interference, in fact many factors would prevent the finding of objects submerged. Technology also gets better with time. It could be a factor but not a determining factor. Law Enforcement trains for this so I don't suspect any type of incompetence. Information, eye witness accounts and physical evidence is processed however when key evidence is missing it makes it hard to figure out how a vehicle can just disappear without a trace. With cases like this Patience is a virtue. Usually one key piece of evidence will surface and unravel the whole investigation. Ethan was partying but it's possible that everyone left the gathering and Ethan was the last man out. No one knows what exactly happened. Everything in the speculation realm is just a theory but unless something concrete can be found then there is no way of knowing. In conclusion there are wonderful people who made this find happen and not Ethan can be laid to rest and everyone can focus on celebrating his wonderful 22 year life instead of dwelling on how he departed.
Blessings to everyone in abundance. This story reminds me that Tommorrow is Never promised. Things happen in a twink of an eye. Love one another and be present, be caring, be grateful, give eachother value.
Until we meet again. I too had to bury my 24 year old first born Son in 2008. I wasn't able to save him. As a Father I still wonder what else I could have done to save him. I learnt all about autopsies, toxicology breakdown and how Law Enforcement operates. This is my angle of thinking.
In Loving Memory of Ethan Kazmersak.

Please understand sonar graphics and picture resolution has probably come a long way in the last 7- 15 years. just like tvs. and cell phones. The sonar unit adventures with purpose uses costs about 2800 - 3100 usd plus another 1200 for the transducer.. as of today. Not a cheap piece of kit. A great bunch of guys and youtube supporters backing them. check them out on youtube. Whose to say that when they searched years ago they had the latest and greatest side scan. Its not a giant city budget and the equipment may have already been 5 years old then and may not have been the highest level either. so its easy to see how they could miss it. Also maybe the light was reflecting off the screen at the moment they floated over the car or the sonar guy got distracted and looked away at that moment maybe it was windy and the grid search was a bit off course.. so many variables in life.

They use the Humminbird Solix 12 which retails 3500 U.S. on amazon. The transducer is another grand. That's a lot of cash for small county dive teams with multiple boats. I can understand the maintaining and use of older equipment that are just not up to snuff for modern fish finders, witch is all this unit really is. Can be "hard" for a county to justify updating this equipment every few years, especially if they don't do a lot of underwater recovery.

Moreover - go back and review the AWP video. A vertical scan sonar doesn't really show much; the "hit" they got could have easily been misinterpreted as a boulder. It was the side scan trace that clinched it, and I'm quite certain that the equipment that was available at the time couldn't have shown the car up with the kind of fidelity that their little Humminbird unit did.

      FAMILY OF ETHAN KAZMERZAK
Tom, Ruth and I would like to thank our family, friends and community for all they have done for us the last seven years. Although the loss of a son and brother is a heavy burden we couldn't have gotten through it without all of your thoughts and prayers. Ethan's life was a blessing to us and we wanted to have a live memorial that would make a difference in the lives of others. We chose the Franklin County Arts Council as the recipient of the funds that were given in honor of Ethan. We had donations from all over the world and because of that and a very generous donation from Ethan's Godparents, Dick and Kathy Allbee, we are thrilled to announce that over $20,000 has been donated to the Franklin County Arts Council.
Ethan loved the arts and participated in many of the Councils activities and also received their scholarship. We hope this donation will continue sharing the arts in Franklin County for years to come! Thank you all for all you have done for our family.

And they have to buy all of their own gear, not just normal dive gear, sonar and a boat and all the other stuff. Why would they possibly get the money offered?
It's not the family's fault it's whoever set up the reward who now won't pay it.
