Try Murphys Oil Soap. This is an age old product that does a Great Job on matts; Outdoor GRILLS; Indoor stoves; stove / hood exhaust etc.. Most chemicals do not lift dirt and in particular dirt mixed with oils. This is right in the wheel house of this product. Once you lather-up the vinyl or rubber matte move out of the sun; let sit for 10 minutes or so, scrub again (you do not have to use more Murphy's just wet the scrub brush with water). Rinse and dry. Then use some Chemical Guys 'Silk Shine Dressing' (I have no relation with them at all). Both products are cheap and the Silk shine dressing dries with no oily residual. The finish will not be a gloss rather a matte finish, i.e., restores & protects the new finish but does not enhance it from a gloss perspective.

Thank you for the video! I have had the weather tech mats in black for years. They are an absolute pain to clean! Mine never look good even after washing and scrubbing for a long time. I agree. The material holds too much dirt. Unfortunately, they don't make the husky mats for my older car. Interestingly, a local dealer said the grey and tan weather tech mats tend to look better for longer. I do use a natural tire shine on my mats to make them look better. They can get slippery though, as you said. Thanks for the tips! Great video!

The Stoner Trim Shine that comes in the aerosol tends to work pretty well and not too slippery. Just make sure to wipe them off to remove any excess after you apply the trim shine.

I have had this issue for the past 3 years, mud from construction sites dried on and no matter how hard I scrubbed the staining never came off. I finally found a sure fire method that's easy and not expensive. First power wash or scrub the mats to get the majority of dirt off then let dry. Second - spray stained areas with WD40 and scrub with a brush (important), I used a toothbrush for the grooves and corners, lastly rinse the mat off with a detergent. If you missed a couple spot do over - but it will come off. Mine look brand new!

That's, that was helpful. I purchased the Weathertec cleaning products, but wow, they are expensive. My other trick during the winter is to take the mats out of my car when I'm gassing up, and hit them with the windshield brush. For some reason that liquid really gets a lot of dirt off. If you do that once a week during the bad months, you won't have such a hard time when you give them a full cleaning.

I’m a beach metal detectorist and track sand into the car and trunk. Just got my WT liners and watched this for maintenance. Typical cleaning methods, but what I didn’t think of, and now realize thanks to other comments, is the sand will scratch these liners and make them difficult to clean. Regardless, that’s why I bought them; right? So, clean and protect more often. It’s easier than what I have been doing!
I reviewed all the comments and still nothing about using the fusion grey color? Hmmm…

Regrets when you have a spillage or wet boots and the water rolls over the edge on a corner due to the hydrophobic nature. Mats like this are designed to 'wet' to disperse the liquid, evaporate as much as possible and prevent spillage.

For sure! We will have to make a video sometime soon showing the faster method (doesn't stay nice as long) but it seems like most guys aren't wanting to spend this much time on mats from most of the comments we have been getting lol.
We have always had the mentality that speed doesn't mean the best ending results and quality but seems like everyone wants things done as fast as possible.

Purple power gets all the oilfield grease off our trucks that nothing else will, don’t let it sit on the windows too long though. Then you’ll need some barkeeps friend and a soft sponge. Then follow up with simple green.
The standard Oilfield truck wash is a soak in simple green then a drive down the highway in the rain. Good for most grime/grease and mud/chemicals.

I had weathertech mats in my Frontier. The "heel" area on the driver mat over time because discolored, almost greenish ( I assume it was from the winter/ salt ). They were stiff and the design would allow water to "drain" or run towards the rocker trim. So I had to put a piece of towel there to A. keep the water towards the center of the mat, B. absorb any water that did run that direction. Now with my Sierra, I went with the Husky liners, Xact Contour and they are ALOT better than the WT. They are soft and pliable, not to mention there is a raised "wall" on the outside of the mat so the water should stay "on" the mat as opposed to running towards the rocker trim.

#Pristine I personally prefer the Husky mats over weather tech. Living in Oklahoma the husky holds up better than the weather tech does in the heat. After a few months in southern heat the weather tech mats will begin to fold over and lose there shape unlike the husky ones. Also the rubber finish appears better. I work for a dealership and I have a buddy that owns an accessories shop and we both recommend Husky over the weather tech even though he stocks both there. But good video!

I get scared with husky liners they look so slick. But with any other rubber floor mats I used to always use interior dressing. It rains a lot in seattle tho so once u get it wet it becomes a slip and slide then it gets on yout shoes and on the clutch pedal 😲😬

When I picked my car up they had put Tire shine on my carpet. Do you have any idea on how I remove the Tire Shine from the carpet? I am slipping and sliding every time i get in and out of the car.

So... What do you use when cleaning the tan Weathertechs? I'm curious because I'm thinking about getting a set in tan for my car. I wouldn't be tracking more than rainy day mud and water into my car. It looks like the black gets a whiteish, or lighter color discoloration. Does that mean it doesn't show up as much in the tan versions?

    • @PristineAutoDetailing
      @PristineAutoDetailing  4 года назад +2

I clean the tan the same way as the black. Seems like the gray and tan hold up a little better and don't get so whiteish in color after use. I generally recommend tan or gray to clients if it will at all match up.

@@PristineAutoDetailing Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. That is good to know, since my interior is Ivory. I think the tan will match nicely. BTW, I just got some 3d Maxpider mats for my Ridgeline in black. I like those a lot. They are similar, but very different from the WTs. Time will tell how they clean up or last. But unfortunately they don't make them for my 02 accord. So I'll likely be picking up some tan WTs. Thank so much, this helped me decide once and for all on the color.

No, as long as you don't get crazy close to the mats with the pressure washer tip and use a tip that's a wider pattern. I have gotten pretty close to the mats and it really takes a decent amount to mess them up.

They are expensive, but they work great. I'm not sure there's anything special about the cleaner, but the protectant is awesome. Once the mats are clean and dry, spray/mist the protectant on it and spread it around with a damp sponge, then let dry. Once dry, the mats have the same satin black appearance with just a hint of sheen, and are not slippery at all. Literally look new.
