That hook is pretty unique to OBX. I've never seen it deployed but have been told you swim the fish for over 1/2 hr to lower its temperature, A tuna fights for its life and really heats up expending so much energy!

Amazing catch! Here in Italy the blue fin is almost extinct due to heavy fishing. Going out with your boat and fighting the animal is the most honest and respectful way to catch the tuna. Thank you for sharing this video with the rest of the world!

Hi Joe. I would like to congratulate you for that amazing catch. I am tuna fishing and I have never caught anything over 250 pounds. ( I am in Europe and we don’t have fish like that 😤)
I would like to share few tips with you on how you can make that fish to be even better quality. I am not trying to be smart here but just wanted to shate my knowledge.
Cooling down fish was done spot on. Before bleeding proces I would suggest that you brain spike fish. That will keep heart pumping and it will not cause any extra stress.
After bleeding I suggest that you open upper part of tuna head and that you insert a wire through spinal cord. That action would increase quality of your tuna a lot.
If possible I suggest that you gut the fish and put in the ice slurry as fast as possible.
Sorry for such a long message but I wanted to share this with you.
Looking forward for a new video

What was a amazing to me was seeing the Bleeding out via "swimming'" the fish. I thought that was truly clever as-well thoughtful of the fish. When we Cowboy the Cattle drives... we never yell and scream like you see them do on the TV or in films. We walk them slowly--- at their pace so that we don't get them stressed out, which ruins the meat. There's proven methods for success in all things in life. IF ONLY we'd LISTEN and LEARN!!! *Cheers mates!* Sir Nicholas In Seattle

Still gotta add the 20 pounds it lost for what was in its belly that came out. The fish had eaten those shad so it was part of that fish. I’ll say it was 865 and before being bled that fish was close to 900. They lose about 4% when they’re removed from the water as well.

I have a lot of respect for the ethos of the video. It's important that people get to see the process involved. I know you want to make as much money as possible and thats fair enough. I think people need to decide if they want to eat an animal that experiences all that. Thanks.

My career in sport fishing has been almost exclusively out of Key West, so I will never see a tuna of this size. I love that you made a fishing video and cut out the fishing part. Most anglers never see the fish house or the work that goes in behind the scenes.
    Pretty work!

A great sized fish. In other programmes I've seen, the fish has been iced but never bled and the fish weighed once the head, tail and guts have been removed, as opposed to being weighed whole.
The guy in the green sweat-shirt needs a sharper knife.
How much did the tuna earn in $/LB - not best price I suspect as it was skinny.?

Saw a short on a similar sized tuna core wieght 522 pounds. Assuming similar market prices, Capitain made 2000K on fish.

Question: The cuttings are optional or they force fishers to their cuttings? Did they keep the tail? Why you didn't sale the head? In the tail & head gone 208, maybe 207.5 lbs (-the steak).
NOW, if you haven't, find the way to ship Japan! So you sale direct!

Bleeding and swimming that fish till one of those rare monster white sharks shows up. Some years back a 20+ ft White was about a mile off the coast by Folly Beach in Charleston. It seems the Carolinas dont get many White sharks, but when we do, theyre really big.
One of those show up, and it would wreck your payday. 😢 Beautiful fish BTW!

You would think they would have a swivel gantry for lifting them out of the water or a curved drop board that pivots off the side of the boat that can lift and roll the fish over the side of the boat 🤔
