I have a rear anamorphic adapter for mft, I put it on sony e through the adapter, the crop covers 1.6, so you need to cut off about 5% on Sony and it is completely clean throughout the field... I do not know how the master made it to order, he went out of business because there are too few orders... All I know is that he ordered the glasses in China...

This is very similar to a lens/adapter combo I use on my Sony a6300. Beastgrip’s 37mm iPhone anamorphic lens adapts to the Sony 16mm f/2.8, just needs a light 1.2x crop applied to remove any vignetting, and with clear image zoom I do the crop in camera and the footage looks great when I bring it into the edit. Worth noting this only works cause of the apsc sensor, would require a much bigger crop in on a full frame
If it wasn't for the fact that the front element rotates when manually focussing, this could work really well on the Pentax 110-format 24mm f2.8 Very small front lens element, and could be a solution for M43. If you're not focussing during a take, no reason why it wouldn't work?
I actually enjoy how the 28mm lens actually keeps a lot of the shot in focus. As in similar to deep focus settings as if f/16 or something. I have plenty of lenses for depth of field but I miss having shots showing everything without resorting to using a camcorder with a smaller sensor. its crazy! 3:20
I was hesitating if I wanted to get this lens when it was available for Nikon Z. But know I’m 100% preordering it and the anamorphic clip. Great video.
Awesome man. I'll be honest, when they first showed me it I wasn't keen either. I really wanted a cheap anamorphic solution for doing some content every now and again but the price is too high. The adapter didn't fit my other lenses so I gave up on it but when I checked the email a few more times I realised that this lens was perfect.

I took this lens & another product that were crowdfunded but I think I will refuse to review them in future. It would be interesting to see if a better phone anamorphic adapter like the neewer pro 1.55X would produce higher quality results. It also has the ability to attach filters on the front of the lens.

This is so cool! Perfect timing - I'm currently playing around with the same mobile phone 1.55x anamorphic adapter and a 24mm Pentax 110A lens (which is insanely tiny) for my MCC using vintage Kodak Telek negative diopters & stuff. Completely horrible rigging so far, but good goofy geeky fun.

@@Altcine Btw: there seems to be another version (many actually by different "brands") by Neewer, which is round and has the option to fit filters (67mm using an included step up ring). May also be interesting if these lenses could be adapted to other taking lenses with small front element... the fantastic 22mm Canon EF-M lens comes to mind immediately to use with the crop modes on the M... ;) And if there was a step-down ring from 43mm filter thread to 17mm would exist, you could very easy attach it to the lens without glue or anything... ;)
Also, when is the dual mount available? I just re-aquired an EOS M to finally build my M-Lite that's been sitting around and the dual mount would definitely nicely complete the conversion! ;)
Fellow brit here, got to say this is an absolutely crackin' idea, anamorphic looks to be about £19 on your link. Even including the viltrox lens in your costing this is such a good value way to experiment with anamorphic!

Looks better than the anamorphic projector lens setups people used for a while! And ends up being cheaper than those anyway. Definitely a great option for micro budgets

Well for years we thought the coverage depends only on the lens focal lens and you should use longer focals to deal with anamorphic adapter . But the real major factor is the taking lens entrance pupil and how far the aperture ring from the front lens element . It’s pretty scientific but This video is a solid proof that focal lens doesn’t matter
Hey Julian, like everything else, it's just a matter of trying and seeing what works. I don't shoot anamorphic a lot so I was desperate for a very low cost setup so was worth a try.

@@Altcine from what I see if visible aperture limited it to a slower speed ,it have high chance it have focus accuracy ( how much the motor moved in 1 step) Or it doesn't have optimal image quality at faster speed. But we don't need MTF perfect image sometimes. The characteristics after modding might match our favourites ❤️ And we can also drop different kinds of apertures like star/square/ black dot in middle (which pretend reflective lens) One good thing is this thing is cheap and won't break my heart when going to modify it 😆
Nice idea and results, but may I add something? I don't think that it is correct to say that it covers the full frame sensor, it just cover the front element of the lens and it has a big enought size to not interfer with the 28mm focal lenght. I will get this lens when becomes available at stores, just to pair it with a sony a5000 or a5100 and have the minimal setup posible when I don't feel like carry a bigger camera (btw, I only do stills, and I am trying to get into video).

@@acidtears thank you. At the moment you don't really have much choice in adapters, especially at 1.5x SLR magic & sirui are a max of 1.33 or less. The blazer Nero is 1.5 but you may not like that either. Your only option really is to empty your bank account on a on an anamorphic set of lenses. You could try Anamorphic on a Budget channel. Tito tests them all.

To be honest, I'd need to see a different example for edge sharpness using anamorphic lens than a 2020+ Star Wars production. I don't trust the money hungry folks at Disney to give enough shits to bother with clean anamorphic (I'm imagining the board coming to the decision "...and make it wide!!1!!").
@@acidtears it's not just this example, I saw the same thing in the new Netflix series Monsters, you see it in the Batman....there's tons of examples in movies. Not in every frame but I see it in loads of films and series and I'm surprised you don't spot it.

Nice 👍🏾. I think this is the same as the branded ones. I think as long as the lens optics aren't buried in the housing you'll have a lot of success. These mods kinda suck if they're mounted to far away from lens glass.

Yes that canon 28mm would definitely work, thank you for pointing that out as it has the same type of body. Yeah the BLAZER anamorphics are kinda hefty but they look great. This is a fun idea and I think you could possibly use this on a car rig or gimbal for a much lighter setup alongside the Blazers...or am I dreaming lol

Thank you. It should do when Viltrox release it in L mount. I think you'd also have a lot more options because Lumix can crop...it's a perfect combo.

Yeah man, such a great setup for very little investment.
To be honest, I'd need to see a different example for edge sharpness using anamorphic lens than a 2020+ Star Wars production. I don't trust the money hungry folks at Disney to give enough shits to bother with clean anamorphic (I'm imagining the board coming to the decision "...and make it wide!!1!!").
@@acidtears it's not just this example, I saw the same thing in the new Netflix series Monsters, you see it in the Batman....there's tons of examples in movies. Not in every frame but I see it in loads of films and series and I'm surprised you don't spot it.

Very nice! I have a Ulanzi anamorphic lens which looks exactly the same and I have been experimenting with it. It works on my Canon S100 but I think I need to get one of these Viltrox pancakes to my Sony as well. Do you know any other lenses/cameras that could work with this anamorphic lens? Other than smartphones :D

I think as long as the lens optics aren't buried in the housing you'll have a lot of success.
These mods kinda suck if they're mounted to far away from lens glass.

Totally understand and this lens definitely needs an AF update. If this was manual focus it would be a killer.
i did the same thing with my sony apsc lens kit with a 3d printed mount and works very good and a have 28-50, below 28mm youll see the vigneting

Has the lens a magnetic front? If yes maybe magnetic anamorphics from Neewer will also work...

I think the canon RF 28mm lens has a small lens opening too! Can you try it with that anamorphic adapter too?!? Or if you know of a way to do this on canon ef or rf mount?

APSC anamorphic lenses can be found as low as 500, fuil frames and adapters are too expensive imo.

Someone mentioned about the 28mm RF that's built/looks very similar so I think it would work.

theCanon Rf 28mm pancake could be modded like this too i bet...FF lens as well and its cheap and you get great Canon af.... I have the Blazar PL glass but its still a huge set up fun idea. I bought the screw on hood for it however i sold the lens... I BET you could do this to that 28mms metalhood (14USD knockoff)now that would be interesting,

Yeah the BLAZER anamorphics are kinda hefty but they look great. This is a fun idea and I think you could possibly use this on a car rig or gimbal for a much lighter setup alongside the Blazers...or am I dreaming lol
@@Altcine the thing I was thinking was it would be great to do to the hood so its removable... as long as the adapter has a way to adjust the horizon for the flare... then its only the hood and adapter and your lens is still mint. not sure on focus etc...
