I like how she calls Iris DeMent a "pretty young girl" ... she is 9 years older. This song first appeared on Iris's debut album (Infamous Angel) in 1992. Though when I heard the original I thought it would lend itself to a soul or gospel reading and she does this quite well here.

I only know him because we both work in the Bay Area and I walk out with him most nights as he talks about trying to get his band together. They are together and he practices many nights. I do agree...I don't think Doyle's guitar tone really fit this live performance. Though interesting. I wish he would've used the more mellow clean tone that he used on the studio version. I'm all for doing things differently live, but his tone this particular time didn't really fit. Too fuzzy and twangy for this number, IMO.
