I think you can easily divide the playerbase into 3 groups. Tank mains, dps mains, and support mains.
Tank mains are broken people who are mostly 6v6ers, but have the most stable mental and *usually* a good idea on balance but sometimes they get a little wacky, especially when it comes to anti-tank dps.
Dps mains are all crybabies who’d rather type than play and they haven’t a clue on how to balance other than “nerf characters I hate and buff my mains to the moon.” They also have humongous egos as nothing is ever their fault.
Support mains are like a middle ground, they can be shitty like Dps mains or they could have some of the best takes about this game that exist, it’s really a spectrum.

You don't think that 11 seasons is enough time to fix literally anything? You think the rate of content is good? You enjoy the shop constantly being full of £20 skins while the value for money battle pass is constantly struggling to show it's value? The 3 people working on the game isn't enough, it's bad, it's direction less and fundamentally flawed, it needs a massive shakeup

Like look at all the good shit we’ve gotten lately. Juno, Runasapi, Colloseo rework, quick updates/patches/hotfixes. Amazing, absolutely fantastic. But how about this, actually create content for the game? How about a map AND a hero every season? You know, because Map creation and Character creation are separate and don't take 9 months to create 1 by an actual team of Devs. But that's the thing, it's literally an handful of skeleton crew Devs, if not how do you explain the lack of content? They are making money, a shit tons of money, what they arent doing is creating a game worthy of £20 skins.
I think you're right about new Devs not being able to possibly understand how to use the engine, or how Overwatch "Should" work, but I think the main problem is that you believe the current dev team does, which I would argue don't, and every single one of their choices, from content, map design, game modes, flip flopping designs and concepts, gross monetisation have been dreadful , Blizzard as a company have continuously made dreadful choices but I think putting devs on who have great ideas, talent to create them and motivation to rez our favourite game would be easier and faster than asking Aaron to finish work on the things he promised years ago.

As someone who's worked in animation industry before, I think the same philosophy still applies here with game development.
Decisions like the ones made for this season are usually made months if not a year in advance. It's not like anyone made these plans overnight to solely piss off their fans. Sometimes they overestimate their popularity of something and they make mistakes. It happens in every industry, this is normal. But it grows complicated when you have factors like the Microsoft merger, the layoffs afterwards, and the company still recovering from such massive changes. So it's safe to say that a majority of things that Team4 did have planned either were thrown out due to those factors or were delayed for another season/event. We will never know.
Regardless, people shouldn't cast blame onto the devs for shit they cannot control. They are at the same level as your average wage workers, living under set conditions so they can be paid for the work they are told to make. They aren't usually the ones calling the shots, that is up to the company's own approval. (Edit: that includes the directors in some cases. Remember how Aaron Keller was thrown directly under the bus by former CEO Bobby Kotick during the PvE Cancellation fiasco) You don't know the conditions these people are in.
Your anger towards them only fuels Blizzard's desire to cut more people down to save on costs. Because despite popular belief, companies like them do not want their projects to fail, they only care about the amount of money they'll make from them. Most companies will never blame themselves and instead blame their employees because they know their majority player audience is stupid and will blame those that are directly in front of them, not the corporate entities that are behind those decisions.
This is not a black and white solution to fix everything. This is something that has been building to destroy Blizzard's reputation for a while. I've spoken with former Overwatch employees before and while I'm not at liberty to tell their stories. You do not know the conditions Blizzard puts them through.
When you look at situations like these I beg you to have empathy first.

I think this is just a natural resolution people come to when frustrated with something they think is being handled inappropriately by authority, no? People ask for Managers in any position all the time to step down when they feel like said individuals aren’t fulfilling their responsibilities… look at football or CEOs or hell, politics.
I think to drone on about a subset group who happen to use this phrasing in their disapproval of the Devs is just nitpicking, and detracts from the wider discussion this aims to achieve which is that yeah, the Devs SHOULD be called out for their handling of the situation the last few years. Which shouldn’t be considered rude to at least pose the suggestion of new leadership, even if it is articulated in the most god awful way. It isn’t something I personally want to see done, but if someone held that strong opinion, it’s entirely reasonable to weigh it with merit rather than devolving into emotion rebuttal.
Its to the point I think these sort of shorts actually encourage the community to get into heated arguments, just as the end of the short and other comments here show, which are starting to get into broader logic disputes rather than contextual debates at hand about OW2.

You should call out the devs for not making good decisions.

Nobody likes the dps passive, the devs certainly know that. But they seem to be too scared of their own community to actually fix the game the way we want.
I like to think of the dev team of this game as a wild animal you wish to domesticate. Don’t lash out, be calm, patient, and eventually, you’ll get what you want.
Being pissed isn’t constructive criticism, talking about the pain points and giving suggestions is.

The OW devs, despite popular belief, do actually care about this game. Sure, they might not be perfect, but no dev team is. Every game has its fuck ups, every game has its imperfections, every dev team makes mistakes. Its all a part of the game-making process; if these mistakes were never made and they just stuck to what they knew worked 100%, then the game would never change and would never get refreshing content. This is the mindset that got us battle passes and bad decisions across so many games. It's so stupid that in the video game industry you have a better chance of failing upward than actually getting rewarded based on your merits. It's insane that for multiplayer games the OW2 devs are probably some of the best right now. Too many people just accept whatever is dropped in front of them yet complain endlessly about it.
Not saying the devs should be fired, but why is it when they make bad decisions the most you get out of a content creator (besides like Samito and maybe someone else idk) is "well the jobs hard guys, you wouldn't know it's hard ok." Yeah. A lot of jobs are. You still have to know what you're doing. These devs are trying their best, but it's painfully obvious they don't really know how to balance multiplayer games. Their buffs and nerfs OFTEN are nonsensical. "It's a hard job guys." Probably be easier if the devs knew anything about how to play the game past a silver level. And I'm not saying the devs need to be top 500, but maybe the play testers for patches (if those exist lol) should be? Idk, but I know these devs would've gotten CLOWNED for a lot of these balance decisions if this game was 10 years older.

I am not big on shooters, but I have bought Splatoon 3 and that game is a great example on how to handle a live service game.
Balance is solid most of the time, although this apparently was not the case with 2, hence some specials being dropped between games. s
Stages, weapons, sub weapons and specials are all tuned up over time, leading to a wide variety of play styles being viable and the brief nature of the game modes makes for an easier experience to get into the games, compared to other shooters I have tried.
It also helps that the game is a single buy for the entire experience, the DLCs are standalone experiences that don't affect multiplayer in any significant way and that everything is attainable just by playing the game.

I wanted to make a second comment to address an issue. Balance patches should never be twice a season. Especially as more and more heroes and maps and gamemodes are introduced. I legitimately despise this patch and I'm even contemplating quitting overwatch until it gets better. A patch system like this is horrible because when players don't enjoy the patch, they have no reason to continue playing until mid season patch or next season. Balance patches should be a minimum of bi-weekly. But in my opinion they should be weekly. I mean even flats has had a couple seasons where he barely played ranked because its not fun. Imagine if they made more frequent patches. Instead of "oh, ill come back next season" its "oh give it 1 or 2 weeks". AND yes i understand they need to do more than balance patches to keep the game alive amd fresh. But the current system of balance patches is horrid because literally incentives people to not play for whole seasons if they dont enjoy the patch

    • @RitheTheZombie
