I saw George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Boney James, Mesa, and Najee, at the Fox Theater in Detroit Michigan... about three months before George Duke died. Rest in peace brother!
You know that was George playing his boy, Marcus Miller's SAMPLED bass tone on his keyboard synth, right?! He played Marcus' lines too. He was having fun with Marcus, pulling his leg, playing Marcus' style. It was an awesome and genius performance! I grew up on all these cats!
Sir George Duke , american royalty , jazz royalty , rock legend , funk master , sorely missed , RIP George I cherish meeting you & Frank Zappa in the same day , I've had 40 years of good memories from that concert , which is priceless .
This is great....Marcus instead of the original byron Miller....I always wondered if they were brothers. Naaahhh Just two extra funky Brothas!! wOW! Uncle George is UNTOUCHABLE ON THAT BASS BOARD! Marcus is really cracking up man! Total fun was had to forever see!
George and Marcus are off-the-charts when it comes to improvisation, and executing blues and bebop "licks" and phrases on the bass. And they mean every note...100% emotion! Lol They are obviously vocal, horn and keyboard ideas, but they sound so awesome when played on the bass :-)
@Antonio Stubbs Wow, glad I could help! I'm 58 and been playing since college. I have learned more bass since youtube than all the decades before it came along. We've come a long way since the days of putting the needle back on the record to replay a bass part! Have you seen the documentary Standing In The Shadows of Motown? A must-see!
@Antonio Stubbs You owe it to yourself to do what you love. I order you to get a damn bass ASAP. My stable: 2000 Fender American Jazz Deluxe V, my go-to bass, does it all. 1996 Ernie Ball Musicman Sterling 4 string, sounds amazing, absolutely essential for Louis Johnson slapping. 2005-ish OLP 5 string. Inexpensive passive Stingray copy, same sound for a fraction of the price. Low B sounds amazing. Year unknown Ibanez SR something or other fretless 4 string. For those rare times I want a fretless. 2019 Squier Affinity PJ 4 string. Just bought on craigslist for $100. Gonna put flatwounds on her for that old school Fender precision tone. Sometimes you just gotta have it. Promise me you'll watch Standing in the shadows of Motown. You won't be disappointed, I promise you.
Was Blessed to have met George a few years back regarding a project and hate we didn't have the opportunity to make it happen. Music's glass is truly half empty now!

For most of you saying RIP to George, you know we all know that George is doing anything BUT RESTING, wherever he is now. And he knows that each and every one of us wished R.I.P. to him, ignorant of his flight and heights there following from here.
RIP Mr. Duke. You were bad. Every rapper should pay homage to you for sampling this track. Still kills in 2020. Love it.
They may not tribute to him...but they sure do pay/paid 💵 to him and his family royalties! 🙏🏿

Legends and marvellous musicians. The way Marcus enjoys George's play is just fantastic.
One of the funkiest things I've ever seen and heard. George plays funkier bass lines than most bass players!
@Antonio Stubbs I think it was Byron Miller.
@Antonio Stubbs To clarify, it's George on keyboard bass and Byron on Fender bass solo.
@Antonio Stubbs ruclips.net/video/kzk8v0dmqog/видео.html That's Byron on bass solo.
