- Overcharging can happen in any store in India, but car parks are notorious for it. There are even parking mafias in India who unofficially charge you for parking in illegal spots. These goons at the Haus Khas Village parking complex in New Delhi are real scammers. When you try to exit they'll always try to overcharge you!

To avoid parking scams, when you enter take a receipt with the time and price of parking. Upon exit calculate how much you owe them and stick to your guns when they try to overcharge you. If you put a fight, they'll give in and charge you the real rate.
Parking in Delhi is generally ₹20 per hour only. Actually, whatever you buy in India, always check the receipt for overcharging.

That overcharging at restaurants is also very much real, mostly happens at crowded or tourist areas, happened to us near Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary in NCR. A single item which you didn't order like a small bowl of curd may be seen by you as complimentary item by the dhaba but may be billed quite a lot say Rs. 100 or something like that sort... if you don't return or ask about it at the time it is put on the table be ready to get into ugly arguments that may follow...

I faced the same issue. It happened in Delhi when I took a tour bus.
We had veg biriyani like 3-4 plates at a road side shop and had to pay 2000.
I couldn't argue since I didn't know the local language.

Rikshaw driver telling me he cant give me a ride because he doesnt know the destination. But demands 350 rs... for me taking a seat for 15 seconds :P

Wtf bro....just hope that you guys don't fall in the traps of these scammers here in India....for this you have to be firm , bold and sometimes aggressive too and never shy from asking help from sensible people nearby....learn some words commonly used to refuse and reject..... Never shy from using cuss words also.....show your authority and they will back off.....they always target easy people who are too nice to talk to and show less resistance...

Sorry for what you have experienced. He tried to loot you . A local would have slapped him if he ask for rs 350. Use rapido or Uber instead. Rickshaw drivers are disappearing here in North east part of the country. I go to far places and rapido charges only 60/50 rs. Sometimes it's 20/30 rs if I use promo code

True. Usually, they do ₹100 for Indians. If I was alone then maybe ₹200 or more. If it's a busy weekend night, even more, because people have had a bit to drink.

I'm a driver myself and there are a lot of Indian drivers in California, so when I go out there I say Namaste dosto and give the🙏 and they smile. It's not something they're used to, having a white guy greet them with such respect. I live in Mexico so I love learning about other cultures and understanding them. Keep up the good work Karl!

In my country its the same with services or products. In restaurants they write 1-2 bonus small things on the bill which you didnt order and didnt receive even if you notice because they overcharge you a little and if you dont pay attention you will leave with expectation that you paid a little bit more but you already threw the receipt away while walking outside, you wouldn’t get in conflict because its a small sum of money like 1-2 dollar above but its unfair and if i notice and i have other places to shop nearby i dont go again there. But if almost everyone is scamming in your region then you dont have a choice but to stand for yourself. As you said they try it on weak people, they woudnt try people who look serious and aware. But if they are very desperate they will try on everyone and if you get in conflict they will usually say „oh sorry i forgot, my mistake“ and thats the end, they didnt get punished, they just swipe it under the carpet. I have seen people who stand for themselves aggressively and they act like they are trying to make the person look crazy like they are stupid and wrong. But if its a big guy they will say “okay boss my mistake”. Usually the sums are small but you shouldnt let even small sums pass. You should make them correct themselves and give you the money back because it always starts from something small. You have to be wise to know in the unique situation how to act the best way possible to punish them with words and make them look miserably in the eyes of the other clients for doing such a cheap scam. The thing is that such people hold businesses that are in very good spots so its hard for all the people to say “okay they are scammers. Nobody go there now”. The life is a constant fight, you cant stop to rest, you have to keep fighting, because they keep trying to take something from you.

On New York it will cost you $25 per hour. Rs 20 is $0.30 per hour. If you park on the street you can get a $100 ticket in 5 minutes from the parking police that just wait for you to pull in. India is a pretty good deal. They do tell you in NY haw much you will pay before parking but you have no options
