Der erfahrene Maestro dirigiert das ausgezeichnete Orchester im relativ langsamen Tempo und mit sorgfältig kontrollierter Dynamik. Echt kultivierter Bartók!
Wonderful production, thank you. This one of the greatest works in all classical music. Haitink’s tempi are far more relaxed than Solti’s which is not a bad thing. Only the first movement seems just a little sedate here.
I agree - first mvt was just too slow, there wasn't enough momentum to keep the lines going; they sometimes would sag. The second movement shows how well the orchestra plays. I am not sure what he was getting at in the first mvt, but to my ears it did not succeed. On the other hand other conductors just move too fast, cheating the piece of its grand sonorities and pathos. So there has to be a middle ground. (The remainder, though, was really lovely in my opinion.)
Indeed ,very calm tempo's, like it a lot, Nice colours to,and suggestiv atmosphere, i really enjoyed it. For me, everything is more logical, and not so nervous, Not like ,to name one, Gergiev, They don't show, how possible, they can play it.
Bel orchestre, incontournable oeuvre de Bartok, dont je ne me lasserai jamais... Mais je suis un peu dubitatif sur le tempo du 1er mouvement.... C'est vraiment lent, lent, lent....
On ne voit pas assez, quasiment pas, le pupitre de percussion, ce qui dans un concerto pour orchestre est absurde. Certaines fins de phrases dans le quatrième mouvement sont conclues par les timbales, et on voit…les harpes ! Quant au final, les phrases en contretemps de son début, aux timbales, sont prédominantes. Contresens absolu.
Musique pleine d ' originalité dont on ne se lasse pas .

This is the tempo I would take on the first movement. As always IMO
