@@GermanJobbies Thanks for your reply. The only thing I changed was the tyres. I chose Michelin Pilot Road 6. In 2010 the V-strom was released with mixed tyres ( Trailwing Bridgestone) very slippery on the wet (and even sometime on dry road) and they were not as agile as the Michelin Pilot Road. By agile, I mean that with the Michelin Pilot Road the bike is much more reactive when you want to turn.
An honest review and a great video. My experience is very similar. I`ve got a ZX9R which I`ve done over 50K on and I love it. I wanted something completely different so bought the same model V Strom as yours. After the first ride I couldn`t believe just how well it handled and that it was `only` a 650. The way it pulls is superb. WHAT an engine it has. Can see me hanging onto this for quite some while.
Too kind mate 😊Oh I had a couple of 9rs another great bike. I really didn't expect to like the strom tbh but omg I love it! yes what an engine! I'm the same, I'll be on this bike for years I hope. 🤠
I've had me 2017 'strom650 for 6 years now & agree with these comments that it's such a great bike. This video tells me that the humble m/c rider really is so good a rider who appreciates the bike. I'm always thinking should I get another etc but no,this video tells me what I already know that this vstrom is all I need. So enjoy !
Fantastic bike Duncan.... 80-20 tyres are fantastic in the dry but on just damp roads can be a little twitchy, or that's what I found. I put road tyres on my 650 and made the world of difference. 👍🏻👍🏻
I'm pleased You're happy with your new bike, a different Beastie entirely to your Fazer, yet still a Beastie in its own right. My KTM is not a bike I fell in love with straight away, looks that only a mother could love yet they have grown on me. However as an all rounder it excels, it still gets a hustle on and loves the Twisties, whilst handling the crappy winter roads like a breeze. My Fazer's petrol guage went down as quick as it's rev counter went up, I'm sure you'll benefit greatly from the extra miles in each tank. Wishing you many happy miles of adventures together.
@@GermanJobbies No notification of your reply 😟 My father used to tell me the same thing, then if I brought home a plain Jane he'd say she was ugly 😂 I've just spent several hours tying to fit a Power bronze extended hugger to the Rocket 3 GT to keep it from showering me in crud. I may look at butchering the hugger and glueing it like an extension to the old mount, then give a really bad review on eBay. There's also another issue with their product, the OEM one has a compartment with a notch into which an electrical junction fits. ha, I am riding on those roads or pretty close by :). I had a 2019 650, loved it but then some months ago I rode a 1050 while mine was getting a cruise control approved (awesome system btw, MCCruise from down under) and oh boy, that thing is like the 650 but better, in every aspect so yeah, now I have one. So, if you like your 650 don't test ride the 1050 and I mean the normal one, not the DE. Regarding pegs scraping, I ran the bridgestone A41s and with about 2mm left of chicken strips on both sides of the rear, I never scraped. Same with the 1050. So yeah, I guess If I would lean more than that I would scrape? But I don't know.
Oh I can imagine the 1050 is a brilliant bike. I saw one in a dealership recently and it struck me as being a huge bike! For the time being I'm committed to the wee strom. Mate I get what your saying here when your on a 150bhp bike how much of that do you really use ,like how often do any of us max the bike out and say I need more power ? .I would say on your new one you can get as much of a thrill and exhilaration on this one as the Fazer . I get your thoughts on the tyres and I would be the same more so in the wet probably but I have ridden with people on adventures and they just do the same as the rest of us at the same speed from what I can make out . Won't rattle on anymore good watch glad your enjoying the V Strom Suzuki make a good engine in my opinion and good bikes 😉👌👍
I can only imagine that with handlebars that are as wide as the Clyde, it'll take a wee while to get used to, although by the end of this your sounding pretty chuffed! 👍😎 OK so a huge plummet in power, but usable power is more suited to more or less all of us, OK so I think I've got 1bhp more than you now though & still not stretched it's throttle fully yet! 🤣😂👍
Yip, the Fazer had to be wound up to make it stomp, by then it's too late...torque is more real world and less top...I'm a convert😂 the mickey mouse ear mirrors are actually useful too. You bassa, waving you 1 bhp over me! I feel humiliated 😅
It's a clean looking cockpit not to much of anything. I'm with you on the exhaust noise can't see the point of super loud . Not great for early starts for work waking the neighbours 😴 😮 sounds like you are loving the bike . Smaller cc makes sense.
You'll be amazed how agile they are Dunc, get it leant over. You've more chance of those satellite dish mirrors touching down before you do😁😁 And you hit the nail right on the heed, it's a cheap versatile do it all bike. There's a lot of those 650's have been on mega tours across all kinds of surfaces. Start spanking it on them bends🤣🤣

@jorgeabreu2941 the Gen 3 engine profile is smoother and likes to rev. I am very happy with my Gen3. I've done 7500 miles in just 9 months.
@@GermanJobbies thanks for the opinion 🤘
Great video and bike. Gotta love your GS banter. I tried a KTM today...my feet are about a foot (pun intended) from the ground. 😅
Chelsea tractor springs to mind. 😂
My adventure is my vulcan s 😊so yours sure is!
Ride safe LJ
oh a KTM! very nice! but you'd them become Lady K Rider! 😅🤷♂️
@@GermanJobbies 😅 technically a k as kawasaki vulcan s the J is jane 😊
@@ladyjrider666 Someone's had their weetabix already! 🤣😜
@@GermanJobbies 😅 joys of being a mam!
ha, I am riding on those roads or pretty close by :).
I didn't have it long before I crashed so it's still plenty fun and novel to me 😅 I've never scratched the pegs, only the side stand foot extender. Enough "scratching" for me now anyway 🤣
@@GermanJobbies hmm, strange, except the seat height which I fixed by getting the lower one, it feels more compact to me than the 650. Distance to handlebars, the cockpit size and and how I see it when I'm riding.
I am getting mine 2024 model 650XT in black color next week…hopefully!!
Congratulations 😆 You're going love it! Will you maka first impressions vid?
@@GermanJobbies i know i am gonna love it..i had the 2005 model…and i had a great time with that bike, now after 20 year i am riding again..but i know once i have the first gear in everything will come back. Maybe i will make a video later..once i feel confident again…and i will need to buy a camera as well…by the way..r u Scottish? I have spend almost 10 year in Scotland..Aberdeen and Dunfermline.
@@christostsikouridis7674 Awesome, welcome back to the biking 🥳 yes Scottish🤠 Wow, you lived there? Were you crazy?! 🤣
@@GermanJobbies hahaaha..a little bit!!…now i live in Austria…but i miss the fish n chips and a full Scottish …and a pint in a pub!! …the good ol time with the oil n gas in Aberdeen…easy money easy money…the lads on the Quays in Aberdeen harbor….that was the days…and then 2015…boom…all was gone…well most of it…i miss Aberdeen more than Dunfermline or Edinburgh..i found the folk there nicer!!
@@christostsikouridis7674 Oh another ex rig man eh Sounds like you had a decent time up there. I miss the haggis n chios 😅 Yeah not a bad lot us Scots I hope 😇
We have 20/80 tires on our Honda CB500X and we drove till now 16.790km on them. Doing everything we did as on our other bikes. No knowledge about de V-Strom ground clearance. Hope you get that answer soon.
Just enjoy and get to know her and trust yourself. Many safe km together 👍🏻🙋♀️🙋♂️🏍️🏍️
wow that's great longevity! I will, slowly we will blend together man and machine in perfect chaos😅
@@GermanJobbies in beautiful chaos we hope. 😂

You look very comfortable on the bike.
It feels like a good old armchair 😄 Thanks you two 🙋♂️
Very nice mate!
🙂thanks Dane!
You are spot on with all of that mate. There's more to biking than just balls out acceleration..
I got mine in January 10th. What is the name of that town ? it looks amazing
You love it huh? 😁 I thin it's Renchtal or something? 🤔Just a generic two min ride through village 🤣
I can only imagine that with handlebars that are as wide as the Clyde, it'll take a wee while to get used to, although by the end of this your sounding pretty chuffed! 👍😎
OK so a huge plummet in power, but usable power is more suited to more or less all of us, OK so I think I've got 1bhp more than you now though & still not stretched it's throttle fully yet! 🤣😂👍
Yip, the Fazer had to be wound up to make it stomp, by then it's too late...torque is more real world and less top...I'm a convert😂 the mickey mouse ear mirrors are actually useful too.
You bassa, waving you 1 bhp over me! I feel humiliated 😅
Nice bike and entertaining chat 👍
Cheers Sir, not sure about the entertaining part though 😆
Hi. What about brakes? Are they strong enough?
The brakes are well matched to the bike's power. Unless you're going to use it as a track racer, they're strong enough👍👍🤠
@@GermanJobbies Ok i see, thanks for your answer.
It's a clean looking cockpit not to much of anything. I'm with you on the exhaust noise can't see the point of super loud . Not great for early starts for work waking the neighbours 😴 😮 sounds like you are loving the bike . Smaller cc makes sense.
Yeah a td budget I agree but good enough for real life 🤘 Yes good point Gus, using it for work...I'm the earliest starter in the street!
You'll be amazed how agile they are Dunc, get it leant over. You've more chance of those satellite dish mirrors touching down before you do😁😁
And you hit the nail right on the heed, it's a cheap versatile do it all bike.
There's a lot of those 650's have been on mega tours across all kinds of surfaces.
Start spanking it on them bends🤣🤣
Slowly slowly! I need more miles first. Yeah the reputation of them is strong, am chuffed with it 😁
There's enough here to get into trouble...there's enough to get ooouutt of trouble laddy!! I will bail you out of jail Duncan!!! That bike will pull some G's uphill!!
Thanks Tommy, it's good to know that you'd put your Harley up for bail! that's love 🤣🤣
