What can be said ? "Dead Man" is an American masterpiece , a morality fable disguised as a western - it's an onion - there is layer after layer to peel ....and you still don't think you've gotten to the bottom of it .......a film like this only comes around once in a lifetime.....part vision ......part accident ......part inspiration ........ all beautiful !!
I heard about this movie, found a copy and I have watched it countless times. This movie is a masterpiece. My favorite movie of all time. Nothing else even comes close.
I first watched this movie in about 1996 while in bed with a pretty bad fever. After it was over I instantly rewound the tape and watched it again. No other movie has come close for me since.
"What's a Philistine?" "It's a person... real dirty person." If for nothing else, Jarmusch is a genius just for giving us a scene with Jared Harris, Billy Bob Thornton, and Iggy Pop in a dress.
Johnnys facial expressions in scene around the campfire shows his mastery of acting even at this young age. If you watch his facial expressions change during any of his movies you will be amazed. No other actor of our times can do that. Oh yeah, love this movie.
Best movie scene in history. " I don't give a shit who saw what and who did what or who did who. If I want this one I'll have him too by God." Awesome.
Being forced to watch an idiotic ad for some kind of slimy, gelatinous fruit candy for 15 seconds is not only worth it, but somehow a fitting rite of passage prior to viewing this classic scene from a unique film that is one of my favorites.
I just discovered this myself, ive gradually discovered the actors here, first Iggy, then later I noticed Billy Bob Thornton, and now at last Jared Harris. Strange how the first time i saw this movie long ago, i didnt know who any of them were..
I like how Iggy Pop is frantically scrambling to prep his gun to try to shoot Nobody, while Nobody is just casually looking over and admiring Billy Bobs rifle, and then just ends up apparently shooting Iggy Pop accidentally with that rifle.
So many great moments in this scene. Both whispering. William Blake: "... What if they kill me?" Nobody: "Nobody will observe". Haha! Not terribly reassuring. The dialogue is brilliant and hilarious, but balanced, the acting production, directing, DOP (B&W was the right choice. Reminds me of Kurosawa Akira's mastery with B&W and of directing) just like the rest of the film. Kurosawa's influence is clear in Ghost Dog too (aside from the obvious references to Japanese culture. Two of my all time favourite films. Up there in top 10. But so hard to choose because the Coen Brothers have so many classics. Other classics like most of Kurosawa's films, American Psycho, Apocalypse Now, full metal Jacket and Blade runner (I know. A fellow film buff says it's overrated. Maybe. But still a classic. It's a great film (with voiceover removed) and Rutger Hauer's contribution this character, his dialogue and his contribution to editing dialogue, like his final monologue in the film. But Deadman is jostling for one of the top slots in my top 10 best all time.
I watched this back in Bellevue, whilst recovering from a leg amputation due to dirty needles. I bin watchin' it ever since! The leg got cremated, in secret. I still hear it on summer evenings at magic hour...
"I clean up real good" Was he reading Goldilocks and The Three Bears? I used to segue from that to stories of Nero's depravity when I was putting the kids to bed.
What good is this without the audio? I've never understood why, when audio is removed from an upload, the person who uploaded it keeps the clip up. Just take it down or put some subtitles in it.
Reminds one of the owners of pro sports teams that were afraid that television coverage would decrease thier revenue, when it turned out it did just the opposite.
It's 2023 and only Philistines don't know about the movie Dead man.
I saw this film in theater when it first came out. It blew my mind. I had to go back and see it again and told all my friends about it. Good times.
the Neil Young soundtrack is incredible
"Who are you traveling with?" "Im with Nobody"
“Nobody will observe,”……is why I always laugh to myself anytime I hear someone say “Nobody’s watching,”.

Amen
i`m glad that this masterpiece is so underrated. makes me feel special
I agree. It has the spook.
Yeah... American masterpiece made by Hungarian director!)))

Best movie ever made. Lost the número of times watched It. Mighty gorgeous
Billy Bob Thorton, Jared Harris and Iggy Pop sat around a campfire with Johnny Depp and Gary Farmer..... What a cast!
One of the most brilliant movies I have ever seen. Bar none. Absolutely fantastic film.
better than that
"What's a Philistine?"
"It's a person... real dirty person."
If for nothing else, Jarmusch is a genius just for giving us a scene with Jared Harris, Billy Bob Thornton, and Iggy Pop in a dress.
And at 6:45 as the two dirtiest men savagely argue over who takes the cleanly stranger’s life “you had the last philistine! This one’s mine!”
"Cant drink whiskey like i used to could" Brilliant! About time Jim brought out another movie!
Johnnys facial expressions in scene around the campfire shows his mastery of acting even at this young age. If you watch his facial expressions change during any of his movies you will be amazed. No other actor of our times can do that. Oh yeah, love this movie.
I totally agree!
Johnny's a fat, drunken, womanising slob, Pilgrim.
'Facial movements' my ass. Bowel movements more like.
Now git!
I love how at the end of the scene he eats the beans. No matter what has just happened, he's still hungry and has to eat to continue living.
And that was his last meal I guess😣
Beans and possum.
I love the tobacco run-on gag. And how this is one of the few movies in which Johnny Depp doesn't smoke. Most underrated Jarmusch film, in my opinion.
I hadn’t noticed that he didn’t smoke. But It seems to me that he did not smoke in any of Pirates movies, did he?
It’s for his journey to the afterlife
This is seriously one of my top 10 favorite single scenes in all of cinema :D
SO freaking FUNNY!!
some are born to sweet delight, some are born to endless night
i laughed so fucking hard at his 1st speech about the scourge
"that's terrible!"
"IT'S HORRIBLE!"
"terrible is what it is"
" LORD HAVE MERCY, IT BURNS Like HELL 🔥 FIRE.🔥."
Best movie scene in history. " I don't give a shit who saw what and who did what or who did who. If I want this one I'll have him too by God." Awesome.

lol

"I don't give a shit who saw what, and who did what, or who did who?!"
Justin Prather “get your hands off his damn hair”
epic!
One of Billy Bob Thornton’s best cameos. The other one is in Robert Duvall’s, “The Apostle”. Amazing!
There are too many "best scene in the movie" moments to count in Dead Man.
The whole movie is a best scene TBH.
Billy bob is brilliant in this scene.
"Why 'ont you shut yer gotdamn trap 'n just eat'cher beans?"
LOL

Glad you enjoyed that.
The third guy is Jared Harris. Mind blown.
I just discovered this myself, ive gradually discovered the actors here, first Iggy, then later I noticed Billy Bob Thornton, and now at last Jared Harris. Strange how the first time i saw this movie long ago, i didnt know who any of them were..
Sally might be a woman tho
Jared Harris, son of the Original Professor Dumbledore and the Orca Hunter 1977.
I like how Iggy Pop is frantically scrambling to prep his gun to try to shoot Nobody, while Nobody is just casually looking over and admiring Billy Bobs rifle, and then just ends up apparently shooting Iggy Pop accidentally with that rifle.
"What if they kill me - Nobody will observe"
"Well, I guess 'Nobody' gets you then." That's really clever I have to say...
Damn I ve watched this movie about a hundred times, and all I have to say is I want a friend just like Nobody!!!
Dead man and the three bears. My favourite scene in in this classic film. Dead man & Ghost Dog. Two of my favourite films in top 10 of all time.
those notes starting at 8:12 are pure thunder,
ony neil could take rough off key playing and make it sound like skill
One of the best movies ever. Leant my copy to a friend. Never got it back.

The "I'll always have your back" look that Nobody flashes at William Blake after he kills Billy Bob's character is AWESOME.
"who are you travelling with?....nobody"...lol

(all serious) "...by God it is soft.." Billy Bob owns this scene
“He scalped her, and he tore her head off her body, he took that golden hair, he made a sweater for Baby Bear!”
GOOD GOD, I'M HIT!
Lord have mercy!
Burns like hellfire!
Best scene ever :D
That's terrible, horrible! ...terrible is what it is! :P

@Das TIER I think Big George has a delayed reaction when he was shot on his foot.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Good god I'm hit! Lord have mercy! Burns like hellfire! Y'sonofabitch!"
Cracks me up every time 😂 this is probably my favorite scene in the movie.
again I say it! Incredible soundtrack!
An immeasurable concoction of - Polymaths - all in tow & throe....I don't do Five-Star reviews. But this is exceptional.
Ha, this scene and the actors are pure gold in a fantastic film, plus Neil Youngs' freeform is next-world good.
Iggy Pop is cool as hell.
One of my all time favorites.
I watched this back in Bellevue, whilst recovering from a leg amputation due to dirty needles.
I bin watchin' it ever since!
The leg got cremated, in secret.

Good movie most haven't seen.
"Nobody will observe...."
"What if they kill me?"
"nobody will observe..."
Billybob's doin' alright in Fargo too!!
Jim Jarmusch at the top of his game.
even better.
They could almost make a movie on these 3 trappers. Would be interesting to see the back story and end it with this scene. Come on Jim......
shakespeare
This was THE scene that sold me on Billy Bob
"I clean up real good" Was he reading Goldilocks and The Three Bears? I used to segue from that to stories of Nero's depravity when I was putting the kids to bed.
Best scene in the entire history of film.
Funny and brutal at the same time....that's life goddamit

just put it behind //, delete space before "com" and add h t m l at the end.
"What's the best way to get down there....?", "Be quiet, and go!" Words of rare wisdom......
I wish I knew bill bob thorton was in this scene the first time i watched it
I clean up real good...

Weird ass movie but this scene is hilarious and the soundtrack is fucking awesome.
cool yeah?

Its not good to travel with a deadman !

Oh no don't kill Iggy...
“It’s terrible”
“Horrible”
“Terrible is what it is”
I just realised that they're re-enacting a scene from Tombstone where Thornton played Johnny Tyler. Only this time Thornton plays Wyatt Earp's part.
Next campfire just start telling the story of Nero Augustus in Iggy Pop’s voice
Have you got any tobacco?
on which part of the soundtrack is the sound at 8:12 ? cant find this part
This is brilliant sense. Very funny even violent
the greatest scene in film history

I can't believe that someone would watch this scene and then talk about Johnny.
All the casts are brilliant.

Wow, WMG disabled the sound...
Now I really want to torrent this film.

First time I watched this was with my brother. We were tripping balls on 'shrooms. 😅
