I am so glad you are reviewing this as I am seriously considering it. I did not expect it to be so large. However, the system seems way more universal than anything else has been!
OOOOO Big brother to the Spellbinders Platinum, nice. This is why I got the Spellbinders Machine after doing the research. It cuts and embosses every die and folder out there. I even got the magic mat to save my cutting mat. Love love this machine.
I have the older Fun Stampers journey one and I love it. I bought it for $75 on ebay because I too bought steel rule dies that were oversized. I love the color on this one though.
That’s really cool! Unfortunately, I forgot to mention or really talk about the color of this one. It’s really nice and clean! They also have new three in one tools that are the same kind of color way. TYSM!
thanks so much for this review! I have the platinum 6 and want something bigger. I am sold on this on now! I love the universal planform is so big! Thanks again!
I love the look of this one Vianney. I have so many machines now, but love this one. I do love the larger plates. Maybe I'll sell my other machines and get this one. I use the Tangerine mostly because of the large plates it has. Be well, be safe & TYFS
I hope you do a video with the really bigz die. One of the advantages of the steel rule dies is that you can cut several layers of paper at once. Thanks for the review.
I plan to, just gotta find them! LOL! I hope I didn't destash them, I'm pretty sure I didn't. I have plenty of Bigz dies, like the normal steel rule that are a bit bigger than the one I used here. Then I have like full, big plate, steel rule dies. Those are the ones I can't find. Fingers crossed! LOL!
I bought the extended plate system and a new platinum 6, LE (the aqua colored on) which has been working well for me (have the regular version of the platinum 6) Looks like it now just comes standard with the machines. My large format machine is an Anna Griffin Empress.
I received the older one as a Mother's Day gift because I "accidentally" bought dies that couldn't fit the Platinum 6. It's a great machine but I love the color of this one.
I purchased a Couture Creations A4 electric die cutting machine over a year ago…it can do everything what the Spellbinder Platinum BUT it’s electric…great for me as a I have a tremor & it’s footprint is like a large laminator 😀🐨🇦🇺🦘
I still collect theses steel rule dies. I was hoping to see you run a larger one through. But appreciate seeing this one too. I just bought two Sizzix discontinued steel rule dies. One is very long a pop up heart and the other is a huge extra wide XOXO and LOVE that can make cute cards with those large letters that each is combined so you can connect or just use one or the other alone or connect to a card folder too inside or outside. Anyway I wasn't prepared to see such a huge die. It measures close to 8 inches for the XOXO LOVE die. I just backed off. I do have the similar larger Spellbinder steel rule dies but maybe this one is even larger. I'm on the fence though about running it or attempting to run it through my Plantinum 8.5 machine. I have the smaller Spellbinder 6.5 too and I lean on it for most of my cutting and embossing in general. I also had my 8.5 eat a rubber mat a year ago and it's behaved a little off since. I tried to take it apart to insure there was no bits of rubber in the rollers or mechanism but I could not actually get it apart that far. It seems to work OK but not always as smooth as it's a bit stiff where I didn't seem to feel it was previous to the incident with the rubber mat. Took me two days to work out the mat and it was torn up. Have no idea how it went crooked or got caught up like that. It had been working well for several passes then it caught. They do tend to stretch when using and perhaps I had just used too quickly for it to recover or it stretched too much having used it numerous times so quickly one after another. Hard to say. I'm trying to avoid using any of the so called rubber mats now. I also have the UNiversal plates that came out a year ago and they are interesting but actually I lean more on my original platform and directions for all dies and embossing folders. However I think outside the box and color outside the lines a lot. So I'm working on embossing inked up hot foil dies instead of hot foiling always with them. This requires a little more playing field. A video shared they got best results so far using a crease plate which I have in both machine sizes. Love your videos btw. They are so well done. Thanks for your sharing of this. Also shout out to Spellbinders who sent me no charge a lightly used platform for the big machine when mine delaminated when it hadn't been used hardly at all. It actually started delaminating right away I just was too new to realize what was going on and thought it might have one of those clear layers that should be removed. NO it didn't have a removable layer and with the delamination the top surface area was warping or rippled. The replaced platform has been fine not doing anything like that. I suspect it was a faulty platform new from the manufacturer. I contacted Spellbinder to order a new one but they said they didn't have them but sent me the spare they did have on hand. I thought that was very lovely of them. I've since ordered the universal platform and plates set for both machines. Very expensive along with a magnetic platform too. Not sure the magnetic is sold still. I continue to collect these steel rule dies and fascinated by them. I collect Sizzix alphabet sets too that are so fun but they want to warp in roller machines so I picked up their old press style machine used. These alphabet sets often say they are for roller machines but they don't seem to warp with the original press with lever old red machines. The alphabet dies are kinda like the steel rule dies as they are encased with a foam around them. But of course thinner and small little squares. Happy crafting everyone.
OOh, I would love to have this so I could get the Heartfelt Creation shaping molds. I do not have a machine that could take those. The shim is a nice feature. I don’t own steel rule dies right now. It is very pretty and elegant looking too.
I guess that’s one way to look at it, but to be honest…the main plates don’t warp or get marked at all. It’s still just the cutting plates that get the wear. At least that has been my experience.
I saw the sale of the machines. A while ago I bought a steel rule due to make a bird house. I was surprised when it was so big. My daughters school is using right now for art class. My big shot is about 12 years old and I am going to give to my friend who doesn’t have one. I love the new plate system. Thank you for demonstrating it
Thank you so much for doing this unboxing vid, Vianney! I have the Empress which only accommodates a certain thickness of die/embossing folder. Does the Platinum accommodate any brand of the above?
Thank you! I really like the limited edition teal platinum 6. But it doesn't come with the new universal system. I have the AG Empress. But it won't work with some of the thicker folders. Would you please compare the limited edition platinum 6 and this new one using 3d folders?
I have a review on the Aqua Platinum 6 and reviewed the new universal plates in it, too. They are essentially the same, just the 6 is about a 6" wide opening and this one is almost 9". They both work well with the 3D embossing folders when using the universal system...have to do something a little different when trying to use 3D without the universal system.
I have the special edition platinum 6 but the turn handle keeps loosening or coming off and now the pressure isn’t there either. Can anyone help me fix this?
@@VianneyCreates I fool heartedly ordered Sizzix newest electronic die cutting machine ONLY because it’s advertised as being able to die cut their XL dies. I KNOW eventually I’ll be picking this one up too.😂🤣😂🤣

Actually I broke an embossing folder, also mine has a very hard time with intricate dies….. one of my sides doesn’t close all the way anymore, nothing is stuck in it, I bought this because of its foldaway ability. Not that great.
I have the older big Spellbinders and the thing I don't care for is that the plates warp very easily. I wonder if they improved the plates any with this new one.
I responded this way to a similar comment about plates: "I wonder what that's about. I never have had issues with any machine as far as really warped/even a little bit warped plates. As far as the Spellbinders machines, I only have the Platinum 6 and as I said...just now switched plates out after cutting into the same set for about a year or so. I just found your video. I bought one at Hobby Lobby on clearance. Mine has a gold handle and on handle. Do you know if there is any difference? My plates I noticed aren’t marked as yours. Confused. Came with no shim and no extras.
I gotta tell you, I have the original platinum that my daughters gifted me for my b day several yrs ago,I began using it right away. I found very quickly the plates warped and it got very hard to crank no matter what I did and I haven’t used it for a long time even though I did buy new plates. Wow. Glad they wanted you to test it out. Expensive. Doesn’t the tonic machine ( orange giant )cut steel rule dies? Is this machine bigger than the orange tonic? Thanks for demo it didnt look hard to crank.
TY! So, no, the Tangerine, Empress, Gemini machines do not cut steel rule dies. They are big machines for thin metal dies. I think the Tonic plates are about the same. I know they are about 8 1/4" wide, but forget how long. I think they are like A4 size, though. The cranking is really smooth on this guy! (:
