I think you need to put those guys to work more and have them throw each disc at last 4-5 times. Make sure each one is flat and straight (or whatever angle is being tested).
These throws are all over the place. I stopped watching half way through, right after the both threw the same disc into the ground. Great production, but the content just isn't there in this video.
@@TheGiraffehead Agree. Good production. For some reason sooo many review videos always have a few discs they throw poorly then just say "well, it was a bad throw"... Why not just throw it again?!?
I have an Axiom Alias that goes where you throw it. Very hard to throw straight for not a perfect throw. Slightest hyzer or nose up it stays on hyzer, slightest anhyzer or nose down it stays on anhyzer. This test needs to show this kind of thing if you want to find a straight true straight disc.
Agree, guys are constantly throwing bit too high. Also too many early releases. Just throw another shot with a disc if u fail the shot. Good content though.
Of all the discs you couldn't test...the Mako3 is by far the straightest mid I've ever thrown. I actually just picked up another because may ladt was a little too beat in. I got it in Star plastic and it doesn't deviate from a straight line at all. As long as I can keep the nose down 😂 I look forward to part 2. Ive got a feeling it'll be a winner.

One of the BEST things you do in this series is use players of different ratings, power, and skill levels so we get the full spectrum of the discs' flights! It is SO GOOD.
Thanks! It definitely helps to see different perspectives and of course, none of us are perfect so sometimes the throw is nose up or griplocked but at least its authentic. Appreciate the kind words :D
I'll have to agree with Michael on this one. I'd rather have them re-do the throw than maintain authenticity. Showing a misthrow doesn't tell us much about their natural flight. I'll also add that I prefer when review/testing series maintain consistency (i.e. using the same player) so the videos can be used as references to each other. That's just my two cents.
I have to somewhat disagree. If you bring in players with lower ratings, power, and skill, then all you're going to do is decrease the consistency. A better alternative is to have Caleb throw each multiple times but at 90%, then 70%, then 50%. This can give you a more accurate measure of how the disc will fly for multiple arm speeds, while not loosing consistency to the unpredictability of lower rated players
Probably should rethrow if the disc goes in the sky like the md3 did. It will act more overstable because of that. Also most of these shots are hyzerflips whereas i would measure straightness by throwing it flat and seeing if it turns or fades on me.
Missed an opportunity to try the DGA Rift. I highly recommend checking it out. Include it in the part 2 video along with the Mako 3, Hex, Matrix, Mustang, Aftershock, Jay, and Lion. And there are a ton more but those were off the top of my head. Rift though, check it out for real.
Brand new discs often fly overstable. If you think about it, the majority of throws you make with a disc will not be with it "brand new" and it doesn't take much to season out that initial super overstability. Obviously the disc isnt going to become a brand new disc over the course of a couple rounds, but ... Well, let me share an illustrative anecdote. I recently purchased an axiom hex in premium plastic. It was noticably overstable for, say, the first two rounds I played with it, but by the third round, that "new overstability" was pretty clearly coming off and it was becoming much more straight. I just think judging a disc by how it flies brand spanking new isn't the best, because, like I said, a disc won't be brand new most of the times you throw it. Not complaining. I really enjoy your videos. Just something to think about.
Legacy GHOST uses a Roc mold. @SixSidedDiscs offer that as an alternate to your customers. Lovely in honeybee plastic. As for a 5s alternative to the Roc3 I like the Warship. It gets easy easier distance with as much fade as the Roc3.

Very good video. I was surprised not to see the Axiom Hex in the test though, for me it seems to be the most forgiving mid to not throwing dead flat, it deals to crappy form very well. Mako 3 is the straightest mid I've ever thrown, and it also stays on a hyzer path or an anhyzer path easily, but that means it is more sensitive to poor form.
I'm here to look at the understable mids because, even indirectly, this is one of the most informative channels for any particular slot I'm looking for.
I've recently been tossing a wombat3 and find it going straight as an arrow. My other mid is a shark and stays pretty true to its goal flight path with straight flight and what you'd expect from a 2 fade
Compass and Warship are my midranges in the bag (+ anchor). My top distance with drivers are currently about 100m (330ft). Have to say that I'm bit suprised that Compass was overstable for u. Every Compass (even new ones in Opto plastic) I have thrown goes a bit right and there is always that small fade. So I usually throw them in slight hyzer so I can minimize that right movement. But it is important to get subtle move to right so u don't have that much fade but even with straight throw there isn't that much fade. Opto plastic is a bit more stable that Gold plastic. I would recommend Compass in Gold, because of better grip and it is almost as durable than Opto. I bag them both for different throws. Warship I use for anny shots. VIP plastic is for flat to subtle anny almost the whole shot. Or just releases it anny and it will hold nicely whole throw. I have also Warship in BT plastic that is for huge hyzer flips. If this video is for more experienced players, most likely they will find their straight midrange from the overstable slot. For the beginners I recommend Wombat3, Svea or Fuse. I started throwing with a Wombat3. U really cant start with a wrong disc if u choose Wombat3. DX plastic would be my choice.
Innova Mako3 is absolutely the straightest disc I’ve thrown. Champion plastic. As straight as that opto claymore and mind bender. Mako3 is one of my favorites! 300’ lasers.
Mako 3 in XT pro plastic is a stable in my bag for straight shots. It’s also fantastic for beginners to learn control. Thank you for the video. Also the Emac Truth, fuse, and the tursas are reliable discs, holding true to their numbers. The buzz never felt comfortable in my hand (I tried!) where the mako 3 instantly went in my bag! Favorite Mako 3 plastic, as I stated, is the XT Pro. Give this a try as the grip is incredible and holds flight after hitting trees.
Hi. I have been throwing golf discs for 40 years- I use mostly Innova , also have a few Discraft. But the straighest disc I have ever thrown and is always straight for me 5 years later , is the Lat 64 Maul.
Thrown quite a few and none can match the Fuse or the Comet. I feel like knowing the throwers average distance on those mids would've been more usefull than their rating.
SVEA is pronounced sveya (like when you say heya (hey you) in English). GÖTE the G is a hard g (so not like a j) and the ö is pronounced like 'eu' in French (as in jeu, veux, peu, gueule). I can't think of an English equivalent.
Yes, that Göte that wasn't close to goat was good. Just to clarify since it was said in two ways. 'E' in Svea is like 'e' word text, but long and 'a' like 'u' in word luck at the end.
I have a 180g. mind bender and its a tiny bit too understable to have a spot in my bag. I have special blend s-line md1 179 gram that is much straighter and perfectly stable with the right power and angle. I cant really understand the outcome of the latitude64 trust flight, I bag one and its not that overstable. I throw my mids straight, not high, not low and usually on wooded courses, I want a midrange that goes straight the entire flight. I just cant get used to a disc that has a turn that cancels the fade (and therefore "straight" flying). I love the buzz out in the open. But in tight and moderatly low ceiling fairway, I love to put some power on the trust and just keep it low and dead straight. Tbh, the straightest flying disc I have is a star invader, I think everyone should bag one, its abslutely gold. You can throw it with a stupid amount of power and it wont turn unless you are runding.
Thanks so much for this video. I'm going to pick up an opto claymore. currently, my black star mako3 is the straitest, flattest flying disc I've ever thrown. A caveat here is that I can only throw around 220 feet, so your results may vary. I agree that flight numbers aren't the end all. I throw my discs regularly to see how they actually fly for me with my lower skill level and arm speed, then during a round, choose the disc that will get me the shape I need based on that. I have a DX Roc3 and a Quake with the same flight numbers and they don't fly anywhere close to the same for me. I also have an old beat in DX TeeBird and a new Champion TeeBird and they fly completely different as well. Thanks again.
My experiences: KC Pro Roc: started OS and beat to be very straight with slight fade at the end. Lost it in a creek. Champ Roc3: OS meathook. Still trying to beat it in but the champion plastic doesn't beat in quickly. Star Mako3: Perfect straight disc. It is currently beat in a bit and just goes up and down, no turn. It'll hold whatever angle you put on it. Just a great utility disc. MVP Vertex: Not broken in and is quite US. So I use Champ Roc for OS lines, Mako3 for point and shoot, and Vertex for US lines. I also bag all three stabilities in fairway and distance driver speeds. 10 discs is plenty to remember as a casual player.
I have quite a few mids.. I'd say I like Buzzz SS first and Lizzotle second. I do bag an MD1 and MD3 for funzies. I do have a Opto Claymore in my closet that was my first mid. maybe I should take it out and give it some love
Cosmic Piwakawaka from RPM discs: The Flightnumbers are 6/6/-3/0 but... they are not true on the cosmic plastic. Give it a slight hizer (which i do naturaly) and it goes straight for 350 with 0 fade. The atomic version is more true to the numbers and i would not recomant it if you dont want to train touch. Dont touch the strata version, its a roler disc. Hex is great too but beats in way to quick.
I have an early Piwakawaka (not sure which plastic - not translucent) and it flies similarly. Def not -3 turn on regular midrange shots (though it can be turned over hard if overpowered). Typically if thrown flat & flat, it goes dead straight, with a slight late fade.
I've watched all of your videos about flight numbers and certain discs actually perform. Something you've not touched upon is arm speed / rotaional speed of the disc and weight of the disc, which are the factors that actually impact the discs flight the most. Example. If player X has a 65mph arm speed and is throwing disc X at 175g and something is lets say flips to flat or barely understable, If player Y picks up the exact same disc but has an arm speed of 50-55mph the disc will be extremely overstable.
I bag an orbit claymore for my straight mid, the trust for overstable-ish mid, and then I have the opto claymore as a really understable mid. Don't know what happened at the factory for that thing but is 100% the most understable disc in my bag 😂
The Claymore looks and feels a LOT like the Origin, so I wouldn't be surprised if the variation in just that mold or range of plastics has some that are straight and some that are super flippy. My Origin is really flippy, its the Midnight Prowl 1 we threw, which is great for my bum elbow at the moment!
I bag a DC big z buzzz, L64 opto claymore, L64 opto fuse, and a west side VIP harp. The claymore is my straight midrange disc of choice. It either flips up to flat and has a tiny finish at the end, or I turn it over and it fades back to straight. If you throw it on a big anhyzer it will also hold that the whole flight. The fuse is reliably under stable, and the big z buzzz is reliably over stable. The harp is just a shorter version of how my buzzz flies with slightly more fade.
For par 2 check out a mint lobster. For me it is dead straight but I do have a slight hyzer release so you guys might find it understable. Would be good to see it in the competition either way!
I started throwing a Compass for an overstable midrange and once it beat in a bit it’s now the straightest disc in my bag and it seems like it can’t beat in any more than straight
I bag a midnight prowl 2 and a s-line md1 for straight to slightly understable midranges. Slick Willy’s in Ashley OH had about 10 mind benders in stock when I was in there 2 weeks ago
This type of experiment is really difficult, but I still have to comment. Throwing open shots matters, but I use a mud to hit a target. I would prefer to see whether your throwers could get the disc to hit a line/target in mids. I think about Drew throwing a Buzz on a 300 foot rope.
a very good video, I use the Fuse and Warship for my straight shots, fuse for if I want a little more turn or a hyzer flip and the warship if I want a little more fade. the trust is my OS mid like you said.
You said GÖTE correct at second try. These are names, and you read out all the letters. GötE, and SveA. Not Got or Sve. I have the Mako3, and it is the straightest disk i own. I love it! Recently stumbled upon you channel and i find it very informative and helpful. Thank you, keep throwing! :)
Great video, would like to see more like this. However, how can you not include the Hex in this test set? Should have tested a Hex instead of a Reactor in my opinion.
I have both the Mako 3 and Wombat. I find the Mako straighter. In fact, for my slow arm speed it's pretty much a dead straight throw but will follow a left or right line if you want it to. I should point out I throw 250ft avg.
That's so weird about that Compass. My son's opto one is reliably straight. And my ethereal Pathfinder is my straight shot on windy days. I'll admit that I'm not a power thrower. So that might be what's happening.
Opto plastic for L64 is always gonna be OS. Try that Gold plastic or anything that’s a bit more flexible, they totally change the flight characteristics of a disc
As someone who doesn't have a great arm, my Manta tends to fly extremely straight when I get the release right. I've recently been working on replacing it (because it's taken a beating in it MX plastic). So far, the Discmania Meteor in ESP plastic seems to be fairly similar just a bit more stable. As it breaks in I could see it marching my old Manta pretty darn well.
If you don't want to have to change your release angle and hyzer is comfortable for you, a more understable disc would flip to flat and maybe turn slightly for you on that angle. You could also change your angle to flat and that buzzz might straighten out a bit more. Most discs also become more understable over time as you throw them so take that Buzzz to the most heavily wooded course in your area and throw it on every hole and before you know it, it will start to fly straighter and straighter!
Very interesting.. my M4 is extremely stable and by far my straightest disc. Beat in a little bit but not much. I ve found i struggle still with my buzz and its fade . Just got a Hex and it is straight as an arrow. Literally identical in a lot of ways to my worn in M4
I didn't wach the video, expecially after reading the comments, but my Uplink flies straight as an arrow for me. Hex flies overstable for me, so interesting it's flying straight for everyone else.
Watching this video I realize I'm officially a disc golf nerd. I like this video. I like straight mids and I like my ethos, Pathfinder. I want to try a Mana.
M4 is the straightest disc I have ever thrown. Just release on a slight hiezer and it will not go left or right. Local course here requires a disc fly 289 ft within a 10-15 ft corridor of trees and the M4 has yet to let me down… even in a head wind (put a little more hiezer on it). Angle of release is vital to getting a straight shot.
The wombat3 is in my understable slot. Even on a hyzer, it flips up and finishes straight or finishes with a slight turn. If there's any headwind, it just turns over. The Jay is my straight flyer.
That's why I was hoping Stuff Made Here was successful with his disc golf launcher thing... Take the human element out and have consistent flat release and consistent speed to have an absolute baseline that can be repeated between brands.
I have a Hex in that slot. Its an absolute lazer beam.
Hex is straighter than any Buzzz I've thrown.

My experiences:
KC Pro Roc: started OS and beat to be very straight with slight fade at the end.
Hard to believe you couldn’t find a Mako3. Super straight disc.
I have quite a few mids.. I'd say I like Buzzz SS first and Lizzotle second. I do bag an MD1 and MD3 for funzies. I do have a Opto Claymore in my closet that was my first mid. maybe I should take it out and give it some love
You forgot about the Mako 3. I have two in XT plastic and fly dead strait for me.
Great video brother... And nice shirt by the way 😉
I would put the L64 Fuse in that top 3. With the Claymore on top 👍
Too many "under par" throws from your boys there, unfortunately.
These guys are fricken sprinkler systems like wow no consistency on throws
The MD1 is. Great disc!!! Best strait flyer
I'm a little disappointed to not see a Star Mako3 thrown. It goes dead straight and that's literally the only reason it's ever been purchased.
I love my Suspect! Has been my year one mid, overstable, but incredibly responsive to any line you throw her on.
Why havent I seen your chanel before? This is a great video
I am not swedish, but I have heard the Svea pronounced “Svay-ah”
Flight numbers are more accurate than your test results.
I have a Z Buzzz that took the spot of my Roc3 in my bag for overstable mid and an Opto Fuse is my straight flying mid.
What happened to the 28th mid? 0:02
I like the emac truth. It’s starts a little overstable but beats in to be super straight
I bag a midnight prowl 2 and a s-line md1 for straight to slightly understable midranges. Slick Willy’s in Ashley OH had about 10 mind benders in stock when I was in there 2 weeks ago
I would love to see you put the mako3 and the Buzzz SS head to head! Also I think the buzzz GT would be fun to see in part 2!
I have both. I think the Mako3 is straighter but not much. I'd interchange them if I wasn't used to the Mako3 and carry that.
I use a beat In D Line buzz from 225 feet down to 25. Straight as an arrow but will shape any way you want it.
LAT 64 Core... laser straight and favorite disc...The stopped making it and recently re-popped it.. and my HEX
I really liked this video. Thank you so much for making it!!!!!
No Mako3! WTH?
Regarding the compass, semi-opaque white Opto plastic is usually more stable than more translucent opto
When I first started throwing, the Mako3 was the first disc I was able to get perfectly straight throws with at 6500ft elevation.
Mids fill a purple? 2:27
Great video, would like to see more like this. However, how can you not include the Hex in this test set? Should have tested a Hex instead of a Reactor in my opinion.
You and everyone else feel the same way, good news though is we're about to record Straightest Midrange Part 2 featuring Hex, Mako3 and many more!
Not having a Mako 3 and Gateways Element is unfortunate because I think 1 or both would have made the top 3.
You're looking for straight mids and you're testing stuff with a 2 and 3 fade, and leave out the Hex? Confusing to me!
And annoying to me. I spent 28 min on this video and it could have been so much more informative.
@@chiebert290 Agreed
I've heard the Axiom Hex is very straight. I personally throw a BigZ Buzz.
where was the Hex?
I have both the Mako 3 and Wombat. I find the Mako straighter. In fact, for my slow arm speed it's pretty much a dead straight throw but will follow a left or right line if you want it to. I should point out I throw 250ft avg.
That's so weird about that Compass. My son's opto one is reliably straight. And my ethereal Pathfinder is my straight shot on windy days.
I'll admit that I'm not a power thrower. So that might be what's happening.
I got a beat in ricky compass from before he won his first worlds that just keeps going straight
Here from FB
Good work bro
Subbed
Thanks!
As it breaks in I could see it marching my old Manta pretty darn well.
i enjoy seeing the flight characteristic's videos. Ive noticed those numbers always seem alittle wonky. thanks for the great content!
Comet is probably the straightest for me. Once beat in they’re the perfect beginner mid IMO
i have a ESP buzz and its a bit overstable for me, pretty sure i'm releasing it Hyzer. Should i try to get a more understable disc? Im quite new
If you don't want to have to change your release angle and hyzer is comfortable for you, a more understable disc would flip to flat and maybe turn slightly for you on that angle.
You could also change your angle to flat and that buzzz might straighten out a bit more.
Most discs also become more understable over time as you throw them so take that Buzzz to the most heavily wooded course in your area and throw it on every hole and before you know it, it will start to fly straighter and straighter!
I love my Rocs, but I'm going to have to pick up that Lat64 Claymore. I love my opto River.
I watched the whole video wondering if you’d feature my favourite straight mid. Didn’t expect you to feature it twice! ❤🗡️
How do you not test a hex in this group?
Great video. Westside gets slept on though 💤
Very interesting.. my M4 is extremely stable and by far my straightest disc. Beat in a little bit but not much. I ve found i struggle still with my buzz and its fade . Just got a Hex and it is straight as an arrow. Literally identical in a lot of ways to my worn in M4
Would love to see a trash panda dune included in this lineup in a future video. Every time I pull that disc out I’m amazed at how straight it flies
I want to try a Mana.
my opto compass that i flat-topped (read: made more os) is very straight if not very slightly flippy
This video is awesome need more w more spots and plastics
M4 is the straightest disc I have ever thrown. Just release on a slight hiezer and it will not go left or right. Local course here requires a disc fly 289 ft within a 10-15 ft corridor of trees and the M4 has yet to let me down… even in a head wind (put a little more hiezer on it). Angle of release is vital to getting a straight shot.
The wombat3 is in my understable slot. Even on a hyzer, it flips up and finishes straight or finishes with a slight turn. If there's any headwind, it just turns over. The Jay is my straight flyer.
My favorite is Viking Discs-Axe and Alfa Discs-Apollo in glow.
That's why I was hoping Stuff Made Here was successful with his disc golf launcher thing... Take the human element out and have consistent flat release and consistent speed to have an absolute baseline that can be repeated between brands.
