    As a ring maker, I’m impressed with your work format first ring! Amazing piece! I just started to experiment with deer antler and it’s a fascinating material. I will try the copper wire inlay as well! I would also recommend to anyone wanting to make something similar to use tellurium copper for the inner core since it’s an aloy that won’t react with skin.

    Yeah, that came out very nice! and an honor to be asked by your son to make his wedding ring.
    BTW: a little trick I learned for parting off a ring or something like that, is I put 6 inch or so half inch dowel in my Jacobs Chuck in the tailstock and advance it right up into the ring. Then, when I part it off, it's immediately caught.
    Otherwise, parting can be such sweet sorrow. 😜

    I turn a lot of pens using moose antler tines. I stabilize them in Cactus Juice in a vacuum chamber so that they turn better. I also made a few rings and since they are stabilized you don't have to worry about them getting wet and messing up the surface. I also treat Mammoth ivory the same way for knife scales. It stops them from swelling and contracting since they can't take on moisture. Love your videos.

    Beautiful wedding band, your son will wear it with pride! I made one very similar to yours but I used a silver coin ring for the insert to avoid the dreaded green finger as silver coin rings is my main hobby. Just one word of caution, please wear a respirator when working with deer antler as it can be carcinogenic if you inhale it into your lungs.

And I absolutely cannot resist (huge LotR fan here) - you have crafted the One Ring! Gorgeous, innovative for you personally as an artisan, and super meaningful for its intended wearer. Awesome!

    First, congratulations to you and your new expanded family. Also, for successfully creating a very beautiful and unique gift for your son.
    Reading the comments and answers and you answered my concerns with copper and skin contact. Nice thinking on that solution by using UV resin.
    But the true game changer was that awesome diy mandrel. That was just genius in its design. Allowing you to create that beautiful ring and the finished piece just incredible.
    I enjoy using brass and deer antler for joining handles to turned walking cane shafts. That mandrel idea is just what I was needing to pre-turn the coupler or spacer joints. Making it easier to pre-match with the woods chosen for the cane parts. I will definitely be turning embellishing rings akin to your design for canes as well. Thank you for openly sharing your talents and ideas with us all. You have inspired me and taught me a new skill as well, again thank you and God bless you and your family.

    • @TheKlondikeCraftsman
      @TheKlondikeCraftsman  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Matthew, that is very nice of you to say. The mandrel is just a home made knock off of an actual mandrel you can buy so it is certainly not an original idea. I appreciate you watching!
