Just quick update on what's going on with the Mustang. You can find my socials and get in contact with me through my Tazet profile: www.tazet.com/foureyes
Should’ve gotten it tuned as soon as you installed the cams. It’s possible you lean out when driving. Don’t let it happen again or I’ll sue you for making me wait for your delicious content。
@@TheVulcan Yes I do agree, however I don't agree with your analysis with him "leaning out" being the culprit for lack of compression on two cylinders and here's why. Detroit Rockers by Brenspeed utilize the factory cam phaser with no lock outs, factory VCT operation is maintained. Secondly I have the exact same car with the same cams and ran without a proper tune specifically for these cams for over 6 months, my AFR's were fine and it saw 6900 RPM duty and plenty of it. These camshafts aren't radical enough to cause an immediate concern with "leaning out". The PCM utilizes a multitude of inputs to determine how much fuel to add, slightly more lift on the cam lobes isn't going to cause an issue if utilizing these cams. Now once I got a mail order tune from Brenspeed I noticed a huge difference in the drive-ability of the vehicle though, and down low performance was significantly improved.
Thanks for the update man I'm sure I speak for your subscribers when I say that we hope to hear good things soon and we hope you can move forward on budget. Thanks for the update
I had a similar issue if it feels sluggish it could definitely be a spark plug broke loose since it a 2 piece spark plug. Looking forward to more videos as your build is what I had in mind
I'm putting BBR cams in mine today I sure hope mine turn out good I'd hate for that to happen to me hope everything works out for ya bru keep the vids coming I always look forward to them even if they are far and inbetween
Hope it goes well man. Does seem like most doing cam work have some residual issues that need to be resolved. Most likely nothing to worry about just need some adjustments. Keep it up. Dont abandon. There seems to be less true 3V out there nowadays as everyine on youtube wants to get something more powerful. Lol.
Thanks for the update, and best of luck fixing this problem. Sounds like it could possibly be broken rocker arms, I’ve seen it happen on cammed 3Vs before. Likewise, it’s common for the phasers to fail causing the valve-piston contact like you mentioned. Curious to see how it pans out
I used to hate driving after being imprisoned for 12 years in an Audi with a horrendous CVT transmission that a previous live-in girlfriend had picked out to "demonstrate my older age and sophistication". While randomly researching muscle-cars. Your first videos inspired me to purchase a black Mustang GT 5 speed of the same vintage. I'm now running 18" AMRs in charcoal (because of yours) and a Saleen twin-screw supercharger. I actually enjoy driving the open road again thanks to you.
Still a subscriber here, ain't going anywhere, good luck with it, I have the stock cam and mines starting to do the same thing, but I do thing it's the ignition coils, keep us updated please
Hey bud hope you find out the issue and get back to enjoying your awesome mustang build. Hands down the best quality youtube car videos out there and ive watched alot! All the best!
I have a 2009 gt with almost identical build. Long tubes, x pipe, cat back, throttle body, cold air, mutha thumper cams, and dyno tune. I had identical problem. I had to have valve covers removed again and replace the vct valves. Unfortunately the fancy blue ford racing blue valve covers don’t let you pull the plug and reach them the way the stock covers do so a full removal was necessary.
Hopefully you replaced the phaser bolts. They are torque to yield. Also the pin on the phaser must align perfectly with the cam. Also it could be a vct solenoid. I would have replaced them with the cams. Make sure you do not use any aftermarket phasers or vct solenoids because they are garbage.
Its about time :) Nice to hear from you but sorry to hear what happened. Your car had a tuner on it and when you changed the cams I would guess you had to change the tuner otherwise the ecm cant adjust on its own for long because of the change in compression. That is my guess. Keep us posted very interested and like your videos.
Appreciate the update man! I Really want the hot rod cams my self, but feel a little hesitant about it cause of issues that may occur like RUclips’s “Nate rider” blowing the engine over 5000 rpm from timing being a little off lol hope your build pulls threw for you tho would love to see some hoon vids after install 👍🏼
Hey, just chiming in, I believe that some of what causes this high revving failure is the lack of spring pressure. I say go with the hotrod cams but just go ahead and replace the springs with heavier ones, it prevents the valve floating that causes such issues. They sound great also. I do not see why these cam companies say no springs required, it saves them and their customer from having floating valve failures, and honestly they are not hard to do at all.
I baught my first mustang about 3 months ago its a 2008 3v with literally everything you have on right now except the brake kit but everything else i do have it even has a hurst shifter and a stage 2 clutch and it has rods and pistons. Now i dont know if it has anything else internally but i really need to find out. Oh and it does not have long tubes it has shortys with catless x pipe and straight pipe all the way back
What’s up man I’ve been watch your road to 700 vids and I also wana make my 09 GT 700rwhp but instead of a twin turbo I want a supercharger (whipple) I was gonna rebuild the bottom end. Any suggestions on what parts I should buy please feel free.
Cant wait to see the car again. Hope the mecanic just find that its a loose injector, inte wont be a loose sparkplug since he probably checks the compression thru the sparkplug hole.
Appreciate the update :) Looking at the short clip of installing the new cams, it didnt look like you had "phase limiters" installed, did you check to make sure the new cams didnt require them? Keep up the awesome work and videos, cant wait to see her running again! :)
TheFerrariKid definitely this! I thought with any lumpy cam setup you have to lockout the phasers. I really hope I am wrong. Sorry to hear of your troubles but chin up! Looking forward to the next video.
They're Detroit Rockers which are supposed to play well with VCT: "We are very excited to offer these camshafts as they do not require phaser limiters and do not require aftermarket valve springs" source: www.brenspeed.com/detroit3vna.html
I can’t find the video explaining what happened to cause this problem? What was the reason you had issues after the cam install and what did they do to fix it? Thanks man. Great series. I’m going to probably attempt a similar build or maybe go right to a 2012-2014 5.0. We’ll see.
Hey I have been doing the same build but I put my cams in a year ago, and in the last month or so I have also been having the same problem. It may not just be a tunning issue cause I had my car dyno tuned with the cams. I have been just driving on so it's been a pain in the ass. If you come up with a solution please come out with a video about. I am about to try installing a VCT and retuning it and see if it fixes the problem.
Don't tell me anything. I'm working on my 05 gt. The car is a mess. I had to drop the trani to put in a new rear main seal and a new throwout bearing, clutch/flywheel etc.. Then lift the motor to take out the oil pan to put in a new gasket. I'm putting in new oil fluid and filter and trani fluid tomorrow. OH! and my rear deferential has a leak. Still haven't done that. yay! also hearing ticking noise. So ether my cam phasers or my lifters are bad. Fuuuuuck!! been two weeks working on this. Fun though. It's a good learning experience. Ben wanting to get new wheels and tires and now I can't cause all of the repairs.
Hey buddy first of all sorry to hear about this, sucks. Second of all I’m going to bet on a phaser dowel either not being aligned into the camshaft properly upon installation or a broken dowel pin. Ether way sounds a lot like the Cam phaser spun on the camshaft...
Good question. I have dyno numbers from an identical setup to mine with the FRPP mani, so will be interesting to see how they compare. If the numbers are noticeably lacking, I'll put it back on.
@@Four_Eyes cool have the same setup only I'm using the frpp manifold and hotrod cams since ur data I'm thinking of putting the stock manifold on to get some low end torque back I did install 410 gears and did a whole lot of weight reduction so that helped
I had similar issues on my 5.0 it turned out to be a missing o-ring on a fuel injector lol don’t know how that happens... I fixed it and it runs perfectly now!
Detroit Rockers. Brenspeed insisted it would be fine w/o a tune and be drivable, but recommended to get a tune for optimal power. Regardless, I had (and still have) a tuning appointment set for the 25th of April (it was the earliest I could get in).
Any updates? Are you interested in selling your Ford Racing Manifold? Got almost everything on mine except the manifold and throttle body. I have heard conflicting information on whether the manifold kills lower torque on Cammed Mustangs with Longtubes.
Also please clean your throttle body and MAF sensor ! Mine was running Crazy yesterday and was running very sluggish! I was going to start replacing things until I cleaned them then I waited 1 hour turned it over and ran like a dream
Also this started or me yesterday . I refueled 3/4 of the tank and started it up . I don’t have cams but the car started to sound like it was or had a ghost cam . I turned it off then on but it got much worse and started to shake like crazy . I got worried and I was 1 block away from autozone so I tried driving their . But now every time I turned it on it stalled right away. So I started to give it gas to keep it alive . While driving to autozone the car stayed alive if I was over 1.5 rpms and the a/c would make it worse . Also while driving the car acted weird lacking power throughout the rpms. Even the transmission was confused . When I got to autozone I watched vids and read forums and found out that the throttle body needs to be cleaned every 6 months so I bought TB and MAF cleaner and started to clean the TB after I finished I waited 15 min to turn it over and it ran really good for 3 mins max then again sluggish rpms back and fourth like loss of compress or bad air / fuel mix. Then I finally cleaned the MAF sensor by watching a RUclips video on how to and waited 30 min then turned it on and it ran amazing or even better ! Never thought that would ever happen
@@newfie-dean5803 I believe it was because they originally made their appearance in 2015. After a certain number of years product does reach an end of product life date. Most likely they stopped manufacturing the components and most of their warranties are expiring. It sucks because they are by far the nicest looking pair of tail lights I've ever seen.
I didn't get too high in the revs.. it didn't seem to get better or worse around 3,000. Low power overall. Car's got 60k and heads looks pretty clean, would be surprised if one of the solenoids failed (they've never been changed). Also watched like 20 of FordTechMakuloco's videos...
You sound like you have done this before but I haven't that's why I let the shops do mine. You mention the shake my car does that and it's normal but you know that right? Yours must have been really bad.
I had the same exact thing happen to my 08 GT. I was headed to work and my car was trembling like crazy and it smelled like rotten eggs? . Turns out I had a misfire on my 3rd cylinder due to bad spark plugs. Once I replaced all spark plugs the older bad ones looked like they were burned to a crisp.
For anyone that will follow in your foot step. I have never done much more to a car they you have before stage three. Do you think a person should just have a pro put cams in?
I’m afraid to do cams on my 06. Two other RUclipsrs had major issues with cam installation, one an 07 and the other an 08. The 07 guy ruined his motor. Seems risky to me.
Sooo... it's been a few days now. Has our Hero, Mr. Four Eyes dropped the project? Did the Cams kill the valves? Is he trading the pony for a bow tie Camaro ? Looking forward to finding out.
@@Four_Eyes / Please keep up with the posts. Cams are in my future. I'm building a 08' GT and need to learn about Tunes. While we wait on your mechanic, could you start a new conversation on tunes? Should I have the shop provide them or should I buy them from Bama? Whats your experience? Might make a good "Side Thread" for you. Thanks
@@Four_Eyes well then there is your problem I have an 06 GT tungsten in color and have similar mods as you and with frpp cams you have a lot of unburnt fuel thats not getting used because of the cam lope.Thats what gives you the choppy idle. You need to get a tune for it to run properly without the tune you can damage your engine because you will be running too rich. Do not drive your car until you get the tune. With cams a tune is required not an option. Good luck my friend.
Good man. Mustang is fixed and I have a tuning appt for late May (earliest I can get in). Working on the cam install video, will post that in a couple weeks or so. Thanks for checking in.
@@Four_Eyes I just had the same issue on passenger bank after hot rod cam job. I've been following your build. There's this guy named lito that can get these 3 valves running super sweet
@@Four_Eyes Too bad. Keep us posted man! Not gonna lie, I want to put cams in my 3 valve pretty bad, but it seems like every youtuber I follow has issues post-install. Good luck!
Not sure if I shared this link on a previous video but this car here is so well done. It sounds awesome with its cams too. To me this looks better than any of the newer Mustangs beyond the 05-09 models. It needs body coloured mirror covers though. ruclips.net/video/QGo-xMBJnkw/видео.html
Nice video, I have the same engine basically, I went with the Aluminator engine from Ford Racing in my 2007 GT/CS. It is fully forged and can take some extra power adders. I can save you a ton of time getting to 700RWHP. I started off with the Vortech V3HO kit. It came with a ton of stuff, and to be honest I am not 100% sure I would go with that particular supercharger again, the belt routing in such a pain, the brackets are a pain too, just a ton of stuff compared to the roots or whipple style. After a few months I went with the Brenspeed Detroit Rocker cams, the blower grind of course. That made a big difference, sounded great, could feel a moderate difference with the tune that came with them. Next, I went and deleted the IMRCV, they sit just under the intake manifold in case you do not know. I went with the Steeda ones, pricey as heck for a couple pieces of aluminum, but let me tell ya. I have to say that just that one mod was nearly as noticeable as the supercharger, no kidding. They all say your gonna lose some bottom end grunt, not with the supercharger you won't. That produced a head snapping throttle response that just blew me away. On the back end of the car I went to the Ford Racing 3:73 gears, that again made a moderate difference, did not do much to the MPG I am near 2100 at 70 MPH. I recently had a catastrophic valve train failure that left me having to replace the heads/cams, oil pump, and several other components due to an apparent oil starvation issue. Now this did not happen right after I did all this work, these components that failed are years old and had nothing to do with the additional power adders, just a failing oil pump it appears. So after replacing the heads, I figured I would go with a more radical cam from COMP (#127650 VSR), these puppies have .559/.560 lift, high volume oil pump from Melling, brand new Ford phasers, DO NOT USE AFTER MARKET, they are junk, and phaser LIMITER #5449 from Comp. I also replaced all the timing components and the water pump. I did a complete motor out tear down to ensure all the other stuff was up to par, this block has around 55 thousand on it now, and when looking at the cylinder walls, they still had the cross hatch marks clearly visible, that was great to see. Well after I got it all back together, it would not start at all, it would crank but not run. Valve timing was checked to the point of nausea. Long story short after 3 Ford techs, two Certified Master mechanics looked at it with all their high end electronic scanners and such, it turned out to just need a 1 hotter hotter plug than what I was using, the flame was getting put out, but the supercharger needed the zero heat range, so the stock MotorCraft plugs for the car did the trick, after literally 2 months of trying. I got it dynoed and came out with 724RWHP. Well that was my journey and I suspect that you to will have to follow a similar path to get to that tire blistering number, hopefully without all the crap that I endured. I subbed by the way to see how yours turns out.
If you install them yourself and haven't done it before you run a very high risk of not doing it perfectly. And then of course you're going to have problems. It an internal component of your engine. It's not the cams that are the problem

Roger that - hopefully my issue is similar!
VCT Solenoids
that your problem
if the get missfire and egt
You where right, it was the VCT Solenoid
Bummer. Hope it's something simple.
Hey bro waiting on that stage 3 stang video did the stang get fixed
New video out now
For anyone that will follow in your foot step. I have never done much more to a car they you have before stage three. Do you think a person should just have a pro put cams in?
Nah you can do it, dunno if you've seen my step-by-step video on how to swap the cams 👇

Any updates
I’m afraid to do cams on my 06. Two other RUclipsrs had major issues with cam installation, one an 07 and the other an 08. The 07 guy ruined his motor. Seems risky to me.
Yeah I definitely didn't (don't) want to join Nate and Johnathan... I did my homework and took my time, so hoping it's something simple.
Can we have an update
Sooo... it's been a few days now. Has our Hero, Mr. Four Eyes dropped the project? Did the Cams kill the valves? Is he trading the pony for a bow tie Camaro ? Looking forward to finding out.
Still waiting to hear from mechanic...
Thanks
JLT Cold Air Intake and 3.73 gears going in today. What cams did you end up getting ?
It's been a week. No news is bad news in this case? I hope not. looking forward to finding out.
Still waiting to hear from mechanic...
Did you tune the car for the cams?
Scheduled a tune before the install for April 25th.
How’s the build coming along?
Good man. Mustang is fixed and I have a tuning appt for late May (earliest I can get in). Working on the cam install video, will post that in a couple weeks or so. Thanks for checking in.
Four Eyes yessir
Where’s the build? I think ima pick up your slack and build mine
So what ended up being the issue?
VCT Solenoid
@@Four_Eyes I just had the same issue on passenger bank after hot rod cam job. I've been following your build. There's this guy named lito that can get these 3 valves running super sweet
What was the diagnosis?
VCT Solenoid. Back up and running now. Will post full video this month.
Thanks for fast reply. I want to add cams to my 3 valve but have been hesitant. Glad to hear it’s all fixed and looking forward to your next video 👍
Check for broken spark plugs
You’re not the first Mustang owner having trouble with after market cams.
Head gasket?
Still dunno yet.. super annoying.
@@Four_Eyes Too bad. Keep us posted man! Not gonna lie, I want to put cams in my 3 valve pretty bad, but it seems like every youtuber I follow has issues post-install. Good luck!
Without built internals no way your hitting 700 hp
lol, still waiting
Literally editing new video right now.
Tune or you knocked the timing out
What cams did you use?
Detroit Rockers
You and Nate rider have problem with cams so it's big no for me to but them
Just get them professionally installed
A guy Jonathan Harder ruined his motor with cams and then swapped to a coyote engine.
If you install them yourself and haven't done it before you run a very high risk of not doing it perfectly. And then of course you're going to have problems. It an internal component of your engine. It's not the cams that are the problem
@@NicholasSunderland but I think if you dont like how is your cat then it's the right time for next car 🤷♂️
@@Bin_hassan_85 unless you buy your car to modify it, which is what mutang owners do
