    Hey Scott 👋 I keep coming back to your channel as I have now ran into the same issues my lifters started ticking and the truck went into limp mode and I was able to make it home now the journey begins 😅 so far I've got the engine out tore down replacing the rod bearings, cam and lifters. I also went with a hellcat oil pump as the melling oil pumps were out of stock. I found a set of hardened pushrods for about 80 bucks the cylinder walls and pistons looked really good surprisingly. I'm upgrading the springs the valves look pretty good only damage was on the cam and lifters just glad I caught it early. Cheers my friend glad you got the old girl running again

    After scratching the head on the dowels during removal, and the subsequent machine shop work, I made my life a lot easier on reassembly. Since the head bolts are torque to yield, and shouldn't be re-used, I cut the tops off and then gave them a dull point. Threaded them just barely into the dowel holes, and slipped the cylinder head over them. Made it very easy to do, and not have to worry about the head slipping/falling while trying to install the head bolts. They are a little tricky to get out as they don't stick out much past the head surface (Which is why you only screw them on a little bit) but even so, it makes the job a lot easier.

    Great job Dave, You are like me, in that you hate to pay someone else to do a job that you know or atleast think you can probably do yourself. I really enjoyed this little series of videos and was rooting for you the whole time. That was a lot of work and you made it look easy. Time for a celebratory pint, you worked hard for it. A right of passage for us Canadians. I remember changing a starter at -20 C in the snow in the parking lot of my apartment because I had to go to work the next morning, and doing a great friend a favor by pulling a transmission out of a parts truck outside in the middle of winter, I then installed in into another truck but that was in a warm garage. Thanks for your videos I appreciate them!

Just think how much fun you had doing yours, you could enjoy it again and again. I hope you have no other troubles and you get that Chevy on the road, but I am thinking the windows in the doors may be a bit more important now and maybe the heater and defroster.

    Great job Dave. Don't run the truck around without the fan and shroud. The last thing you want is to run the risk of overheating the engine.

    • @ScottRods
      @ScottRods  4 года назад +4

      Thanks Jim. The clutch fan is necessary for heavy duty applications, like towing or off-roading, or very hot days. I don't see any of that in my future, lol. If I manage to save enough cash for the hot rod safety test, I'll re-install it, so I can tow it.

      @@ScottRodskeep a close eye on the temperature gauge. The belt driven fan is your main air mover. The electric fan is just to ad more cooling when using the air conditioning, under heavy load or driving in hot weather where the belt driven fan needs some assistance.

I have the top end disassembled right now on my 2012 Ram to change out lifters with new Cam. Still shaking my head having to do this work due to one bad lifter. everything else looked fine. Deleting that MDS crap while I'm at it. Reassemble next weekend or so.

    • @colinlibby9832

      @muskokabikerdude Год назад

      I used the stock oil pump when I rebuilt it the first time. Now 280,000 km later I'm doing it again. I noticed every single one of the MDS lifters had a bit of play in it, whereas the non-mds lifters are like new. Just started putting my engine back together. The oil pan is a real bitch to get out. 🙄

    Love the series. I've been watching recently because I have a coolant leak behind the timing chain cover and looking to tackle the fix myself. Is your Ram 2 or 4wd? I really want to drop my oil pan and can only find videos on 4wds. I'm just not sure if there is less work since there isnt a front differential. Anyway...great series and love the videos and the humor.

      I'm pretty sure dropping the oil pan is easy with a RWD. If you go check out @solargarage he is working on a RWD race Ram, so will be able to answer that question.

    Congrats Dave. Having a 2012 Ram I expect to be doing the same soon. Job Well Done. PS... have you
    totaled up the costs compared to having a dealer or garage do it?

    Hey Dave Excellent work. Sounds great. Smooth. HA HA So the fan just stayed on until you straightened out the wire ?? You bleed out the air within the cooling system. You got good heat ?? Excellent video
