  • Mary Garden (20 February 1874 - 3 January 1967), was a Scottish-American operatic soprano with a substantial career in France and America in the first third of the 20th century. She spent the latter part of her childhood and youth in the United States and eventually became an American citizen, although she lived in France for many years and eventually retired to Scotland, where she died.Beschrijving

I have a kitchen towel that has the name "Mary Garden" embroidered on it. I did not know who this was or why it was on the towel. I figured it was the owner of the item. It also depicts a lady watering a flower garden. Now I can see that it probably was this singer who was popular back when the towel was created. I think this is the case. I still could be way off, I guess. Thanks for the short bio of Mary Garden. She was beautiful.

+pomeroy40144 It must have belonged to her houshold, maybe in Schotland. Collectors item!!!!

+Jozef Sterkens I purchased it at a garage sale in the Chicago area many years back. So it may be a coincidence, the towel belonging to another lady with the same name. It is unused and in mint condition. Maybe it belonged to just a big fan of Miss Garden's. But I collect these embroidered items and have never seen a celebrity's name on any of them. Whatever the case, it is interesting. Thanks for posting.

+Jozef Sterkens Then it was probably hers or, perhaps, a gift to her! It is wonderful to think so. Thanks!

pomeroy40144 That's very interesting and probably was hers. And at a garage sale! The last thing I got at a garage sale was a deck of cards with the aces missing.😁
