What a character. I remember this stunning old woman, her makeup and pearls, shopping in Rosemount, Aberdeen but I was ignorant of her beautiful singing voice. She did have a beautiful smile as well.

This is a very informative and enjoyable video tribute to Mary Garden. Its a shame that most Aberdonians have never even heard of her these days. A sadly neglected but important personality of Aberdeens history.

That's wonderful. I wish there was a way to get a permanent corner in the Aberdeen Art Gallery to display some of the stuff they hold and to have a sound and video feature. As she used to say, "They come to hear Melba. They come to hear Caruso, but they come to SEE me.

I've just watched the videos after Mary Garden came up in family talk as a possible great aunt relative. I'm now wondering if there might be some connection between your family and ours? My grandfather had Gray as a middle name and another relative had Gray as her last name. We have no other info and there's always been a bit of mystery around it, which is intriguing! I wonder if you're ever likely to get this message?? Well, it's certainly worth a try ... 🤞

Hi Starman - thanks for these postings - my step-grandfather was a relative (a cousin I think) of Mary Garden so it's lovely to see that she is not forgotten. There was a Radio Four play with Miriam Margolyes a few years ago taking the role of Mary - it would be great to get hold of it!

I found your video very interesting, I have a recording of Mary Garden singing the scottish folk song "Comin' thro the rye", which prompted me to search for her on youtube, I must upload it sometime, I had no idea that she was such an accomplished opera singer!
