This is the EXACT information I was searching for. So many of these LS7s end up with full heads/cam/intake packages when they go in for this fix (and I obviously see why), but I was looking for the cost if I wanted to simply remedy the issue with good components and not go for an all out 600 RWHP build. Additionally, Speed Inc is the most local to my state, so this video knocked it out of the park for me. Thank you so much!

07 Z06 bought it with 17000 miles back in 2009. Has been driven hard every day, I have broken transmission, torque tube, and differential and had several oil leaks and overheating. And at 70,000 miles later, I installed the edelbrock eforce supercharger, headers, and gears.. 122000 miles now, I have no valve issues yet. Same heads and cam. But every time i high rpm the z, the valve problem is in my mind. I hope Im not jinxing myself right now. I give thank my Lord for protecting my LS7 engine.

Great video! Ten years ago without much info about valve drop. My 2008 Z06 Ls7 engine block was cracked due to valve drop. GM did nothing to fix this problem. I loved my Zee but lost $30,000 dollars. This had a dramatic change on my life long love of motorsports. To this very day at 4000 rpm I can still hear my engine grinding itself into scrap, A total replacement car would not change my disappointment. I put up with a lot of crap working to earn that money but more important I lost my love of being a car guy.

If you have ever so much as entertained the thought "should I go ahead and do a cam?" - the answer is 100%, yes, do it. It's worth doing while it's already apart... Even if it is only a slightly different from stock spec'd cam, it's the time to do it. (Remember: you don't have to go for a huge, choppy cam)
Doing an aftermarket camshaft affords a good chance to upgrade to a more robust timing chain/sprocket set, as well, for extra "insurance"...or even to just replace yours with a 0 miles oem timing set, which is not much of an added expense, especially for how important of a component it is! So yeah, unless you're CERTAIN that you'll only want a factory ls7 cam - like...forever - then definitely take this opportunity to go ahead and do an aftermarket camshaft while you do the valve guide stuff. 👍🏻

Car was sent to Lingenfelter 8 months after it was purchased new and they installed super charger, cam, headers and full exhaust. I can not phantom why they didn’t address the valve issue while this work was being done.
My cost is a little higher because the supper charger has to be R&Rd. I hate to spend that much but If the engine were to get ruined I couldn’t afford to spend 20k plus right now to repair the engine.

Never heard of headers making a difference except for power... Interesting statement. Anyway, yes, headers - in conjunction with an intake and a tune - can give significant gains in the neighborhood of 70 rwhp. If you ONLY bolt on some headers, it won't make much difference as it takes a tune to make the difference and it needs to be able to breathe with an intake

I know no engine is bulletproof, however, does doing the “bare minimum” fix the head/ valve issue for good? Looking at Z06’s but am leaning towards a grand sport since of the head issues.

Unfortunately no… Best solution would be to swap head.

    • @carado1984

They're really just bringing the heads back into spec, putting better exhaust valves in, usually a longer guide to better seat the valve and reduce play, and use material that create less friction.

Everything there is a reasonable cost. All you save is the shop labor of $750
Idk why they used copper plugs? They dont last al long as platinum. 25k miles for std copper.
Really Gm should pay to have these heads fixed, but i guess like ford with 5.4L 3 valve engine they won't cover their own upgraded parts.

Hi, we plan on taking our 2013 LS7 Corvette to Speedinc for valve guide correction. After taking your car to Speedinc, were you happy with the service and results of the work? We saw your video regarding the LS7 valve issue and we would like your feedback. Thank you.

I think it was a good idea not doing all mods at once. I've learned from my tuner on my car to do mods one at a time because if something goes wrong, you only have to troubleshoot one thing and you know exactly what it is.

    • @1EVILZ06
      @1EVILZ06 3 года назад +6

Your tuner is telling you that to keep milking your pockets. All mods at once. Is a one time fee. He keeps you come back as a steady income. A serious speed shop will fix it right the first time.

that is insanely cheap. I'm in Seattle and wouldn't be able to get any where near that price for labor. ended up pulling the heads myself and sending them down to AHP. would have pounced on$750 labor if the option existed where I live.

Personally I think it's totally ridiculous if you want to donate your money give it to some charity the only way I would do that my C6 Z06 is if I put ported heads and a slightly modified cam then fine not to just fix the problem that never existed in the first place because of a few people that had recalls

Truly expensive hobby, but it doesn’t make any sense to go through all of that labor and not upgrade to a better set of heads and cam, headers, and exhaust at least do the upgraded heads and camshaft. You could do the headers and exhaust yourself, but it is a very expensive hobby. and you missed a great opportunity at the end of the video to show the car laying down a patch.
