Interessante video. on apprend toujours. Maintenant avec le 330 Air France décolle à St-Martin de la piste 28, face à la mer (au lieu de face à la montagne) comme le pilote explique dans la video ( 44:55 )
The video Paris to stMartin with the same crew (which is given in the list above) is said to be 8 years old. So that would be 2016. Btw AF retired the last A340 during 2020.
From Airbus FCOM: "On ground, hot weather conditions may cause overheating to be detected around the bleed ducts in the wings, resulting in “AIR L (R) WING LEAK” warnings. Such warnings may be avoided during transit by keeping the slats in Configuration 1 when the OAT is above 30 °C." When flaps are at this configuration, the slats are at position 1 which creates a gap between the ducts and the slats keeping a constant air flow into the ducts which keeps them cool and avert a spurious warning.

@@vpa0 Mostly it's the captain that has the first choice, but they give the choice to the first officer as respect for the role they have. The FO then will take the meal he likes most :D
Edit : I understood this video is from 2006-2008, it's old enough to make most of my comments irrelevants. though I've been staying in front of Juliana for the most part of this year, and never saw a quad-jet here. Locals confirmed me there hasn't be for quite some time. A330 climbs over my place of stay quite nicely, it's just too loud to maintain a videconference at these hours. I'm a but uncomfortable with this video. It doesn't fully reflect pilot's proficiency, and contains many quirks. I'm no professional but fly this route quite often, please forgive me for some bluntness. First off, why use an A340-300 when the AF499 is usualy carried by A330-200 ? It makes no economical sense unless A340s are used as spares. Though the sun seems quite low on Maho for its usual departure time, may be another flight. Also they used this reference when switching to flight-following with the tower around 23:30. Next is the really light visual check. The copilot should be in radio contact with the pilot to check every systems lighting or movement. When inspecting the landing gear, there should be level indicators engraved on the stems, and that should match a reading on the instruments. They're doing the prep pre-flight in english, and they're not realy good at it, that could cause misunderstandings, it's safer when both use their native language while isolated from ATC. They also missed the plane identification on the checklist : most skip it, but his paper wasn't that of an aircraft registration, merely a printed report from the scheduling desk. During take-off, it might be due to edits in the video, but I didn't hear V1, V2, VR in sequence. Well, the flight departure went well, but I find it a bit light in procedural robustness. There might be room for improvements.
listen to the explanations given by captain at 41:00 ! At 44:55 he says that 2 engined planes (like AA) going a long distance better use rw28 for take-off. By the way nowadays AF uses the A330 in St-Marteen and always uses rw 28 also for takeoff and return to Paris.

F-GLZJ, 16/09/1997. Stored 07/2019, Scrapped 10/2019. A340 was a good plane.
Merci pour cette vidéo très complète, le vol est récent ? je ne savais pas que AF opérait encore des A340. Merci, continuez à nous régaler !
Non il a au moins 7-8 ans
Video de 2016. AF a retiré les derniers a340 en 2020.
Terima kasih bossku❤🙏

Wow it’s really windy
1:53 Wonder why slats/ flaps are extended on the ramp? Didn’t understand the FO’s comment was on walk around… something about temperature?

@@guysterges1382 Similar thing on the 737, get constant pack trips. Flap 2 helps as it steers air into the ram air intake when it's hot.
Eight routes fours in left four in 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 👍🏾
The people on the beach v the 4 x tiny hair dryer A340-300 engines...

What do the pilots eat
same food as passengers, but pilots do not eat the same food together to minimise any potential food poisoning .
makes sense , doesn't it?
