  • It has been said that no two sisters were ever less alike. One reserved and proper. The other lively and controversial. One the anchor of a commonwealth of nations. The other searching for purpose in life. Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret are among the most photographed women in history. But what of the real women beyond the royal splendour, and cheering crowds - beyond the Crown itself?

    Her whole family passed away & she's still living...it's just like my family, my dad, my mom & my younger sister. I couldn't or I don't even want to imagine not having them in my life. Must've been terrible losing her younger sister & her mom in the same year. Also her dad, he was such a precious gem in her life. Ugh, death is so sad. You don't see them again.

    I think it would be hard being the spare because you have a duty to the crown but you will never be the monarch. And as the monarch has children and they have children you gets pushed down the line of succession.

    It's easy for people on one hand to shake their heads at the fact that the royal family had and has more money than they know what to do with and live a very lavish lifestyle. But then there's the other side where Queen Elizabeth's entire life was mapped out for her, and so she really had no choice. But I feel badly for Margaret whom forever had to live in Queen Elizabeth's shadow. Looking at this, I am glad that I have a normal life. It's not glamorous, but it's mine. I have an ordinary job in a nursing home which I really like, and I live a simple life which I'm content with. I would hate to have to endure being told what to do, how to talk, walk, dress, interact with the public and family, etc. I don't have to live by those types of rules. However I have always had an interest in the royal family.

    I admire The Queen, tremendously. She doesn’t have the ability to be less than perfect. Margot could be a very selfish young woman, requiring men who had to work in the morning, escort her to clubs till dawn, none had the nerve to say no. She was raised to be a very spoiled person & I think she suffered greatly as a result when she married a man who wouldn’t put up with her nor consider her feelings much. All in all the Queen Witt duties & discipline has been much happier than her catered to sister.

    I always find the British hypocrisy amusing. Here was a church stripped from its traditional loyalty to Rome because the King couldn't get the Pope (a hostage to the Habsburgs) to grant him an annulment from a woman, related to the Habsburg. So, this King (defensor fidei granted by the Pope) creates a new church that grants him a divorce. Then that church based on divorce, does not recognize divorce? Demonstrates that Henry really just wanted to steal church land as a prime aim and the divorce issue was just a sideline. Both all the fuss with Edward and Margaret about marrying divorced people should make one smile about churches and their attempt to establish political control.

    • @lorainewhite727
      @lorainewhite727 3 года назад

      @Erich Stocker EdwardVIII wanted to marry Wallis Simpson. She just wanted to be his mistress, as she was married to Simpson & loved him. Her previous husband was also still alive (ie two living husbands) which for CoE was too many. EdwardVIII threatened suicide if she didn't marry him. She divorced Simpson, who in turn married her best friend; so Wallis finally married EdwardVIII, they married & moved to France where they lived 'til both died. He adored her to his last breath. But some feel that he made a bad decision - should have been crowned, then as king & head of the church married Wallis & made her his queen. I don't know how the succession would have worked as they never had any children. Neither of them could. He loved her to his last breath. So possibly ElizabethII would have come to the throne in 1972 (?) on the death of EdwardVIII ?
      How history would have changed! That's 48/49? years back! Prince Charles would have turned 24 that year (1972).

      Hahaha. I agree. I never understood the lack of education for the spare. George the 5th was a spare (his brother Eddy died) he should have known better than to trust fate. Same with his son!
      What if Elizabeth had died suddenly? Margaret would have made a terrible queen, only because she would have been woefully unprepared.
      Until the heir has heirs of their own, the spare should be educated. Yet, they made the same mistake with the princes. Now look at them!

    I don't actually think that Margaret as a girl was that attractive. She as just a normal girl. In fact, I feel as children, they were very much alike. Their main difference was that their facial shapes are a bit different. Elizabeth's smile is more genuine. Margaret always looks more plastic.
