- This video shows how to find and get through the secret level in Limbo chapter 26 (PS3/PC) to obtain the hidden Ding! achievement. For more details and tipps please make sure to enable the RUclips video annotations before watching. As far as I know the secret level is only available on PC and PS3 versions of Limbo yet.
The entrance to the secret level is located in chapter 26 (the one with the huge fly on the level preview). You may have been down there already in your first playthrough but the door was locked. To unlock the level you have to collect all 10 hidden eggs in the main game and get their corresponding achievements first. In case you missed some eggs on your first playthrough I've made another video ( • Limbo - All Hidden Egg... ) showing all egg locations.
The secret level plays in almost complete darkness and is quite tricky. The video shows my first try on this level. I died several times, so please excuse the cuts in the video. This level is challenging but not frustrating and there are checkpoints available as in the other levels.
I suggest to use a gamepad because it's easier to walk with an analog stick and to use headphones or at least turn up your speakers before playing because some obstacles can only be passed by listening. So be careful what you see and here.
Here's a list of all obstacles and their corresponding times in the video:
- Secret level entrance (0:42)
- Machinegun and brainslug (0:58)
- Ladders with machineguns (2:05)
- Horizontally moving saw blade with gap (2:36)
- Moving platform under saw blades (3:30)
- Three vertically moving saw blades (4:10)
- Burning objects (5:00)
- Slope with saw blades (5:25)
- Three horizontally moving saw blades (5:41)
- Parallel moving machineguns (6:35)
- Elevator to surface (7:40)
At the end of the secret level you climb into an elevator that brings you back to the surface into the normal game. The exit is in chapter 34 where normally the hidden egg for the "Under Ground" achievement is located. Here's a video showing the exit • Limbo - All Hidden Egg...

What is Limbo? Limbo is a great indie jump'n'run game which was first released on Xbox and finally made it to PS3, PC on Steam (store.steampowe...) an iOS on iPhone and iPad. I really love this game so I decided to make this walkthrough for everyone who can't get enough of Limbo and wants to get about 10 minutes more playtime out of this game. If you want to try the game there's also a demo available.
For people just finding this: this video used to have very helpful annotations explaining step by step what to look out for, and how to get through each section. Of course, the great and mighty decision makers at RUclips decided to remove annotations entirely and so this video is very difficult to parse now. It got me through this level and I owe it so much, and it really bums me out that others can't get the help I got out of this.
This is actually the best, scariest fucking thing I have seen in a horror game. Cheap jump scares have nothing on this...there's not much worse than that moment when that first door closes and the feeling of dread creeps into your stomach. Also, the usage of gun sparks to mark platforms? Genius. The developer deserves every award they got...and more.
I don't think Limbo is meant to be a horror game
My family and me use to live in darkness. Outside of town in Mexico. We had a house. But we had no floor or electricity source. This game reminds me of what I had felt being in the dark at night. When I got up to go to the restroom. Or go get a drink of water. Since I got use to training my ears. I past this level just with two tries. Now I live in the U.S . We have change our lives a lot. I know have a house. My own room. And finally can actually afford shoes and a phone. But I still carry that one skill that my poor past life gave me. And that's seeing with my ears.

+Javier Lopez You should play the game "Real Sound". It's a game for blind people. You might like it. I played it several times & got both endings. Although the game is in Japanese, you can tell when you have the good ending or the bad ending by the music & by the voice of your character. You will be crying at the end if you got the bad ending. You will be laughing & having a good time with your friends if you got the good ending. Some very nice music plays through out the game. As is the case with all games by Kenji Eno. The game is available on the Sega Saturn & the Sega Dreamcast. The screen stays black on the Saturn version. On The Dreamcast version you have the option to look at photos as you play the game. And it also comes with a demo disc for D2. You will need a Japanese console or a modified U.S. console in order to play the game.

Guys... this is even deeper than this... The tag line is "Uncertain of his sister's fate, a boy enters LIMBO." He enters LIMBO... as if he ventured there himself... based on a curiosity of himself. Guys, this boy committed suicide in order to find out if his sister went to hell or heaven or not. She fell from the treehouse and died naturally. He, on the other hand, dismayed, jumped and died an unnatural death... thus accounting for the random parts where people were hanging by nooses and why it says he "enters" LIMBO whether than being "sent" to LIMBO. Also accounting for why he had to go through an artificial world in order to find out. Also, remember the HOTEL? Thing? He literally "checked in" himself...

Oh. My. FUCK. ING God. You literally just changed my life. That is awesome and this game rules.
I thought of the exact same thing about an hour ago. I told it to my friends and they freaked out. They thougt it was depressing and a little bit awesome. It's a hidden story of the game that not many understands. They gamemakers have thought of so many hints to tell this story, but it's just some small hints that not everone sees. I love this game even more after knowing this :D

Some serious thought went into this game, and although the developers claim to have no direct meaning, it's impossible to create a game or anything, really, without having a starting concept of some sort. (jacescapes is me by the way.. I just grew up and grew a mustache haha)
I just completed this achievement after buying the game nearly a decade ago. I am very relieved by the fact that I will never have to go through that experience again for the rest of my life.

I love how you can almost play through the entire level without looking. The sound design and the level of panning is fucking fantastic.

@@vibes8930 GTAV was on 360 and is vastly superior. The graphics aren't great and SFX are just an audio file.

This achievement is insane, being pitch black doesn't help and this game is tough anyways. Thanks for the guide.

I just beat this level watching your vid on my iPad, I didn't see any annotations or tips lol. The saw section near the end was the toughest part. I just listened, jumped, listened, jumped. Managed to pull it off.

Just finished this level the other day, my god how frustrating it was! Especially on my new oled TV where the screen is literally pitch black (By comparison, this video is way bright!) Most frustrating part for me were the buzzsaws on the ground where you had to time the jumps absolutely perfect. I also really wished going this pathway led to more insight on the boy's sister or added to the story in some way rather than just being a brutally hard shortcut and nothing more. Excellent game nevertheless. Adds some replay value as I have never gone out of my way to find all the hidden eggs. I really like the music that is related to machine gun tranquility. Made it worth it!
Great guide, I was playing this again on the xbone and you no longer have to get the secret eggs, I'd just finished the game with all the normal eggs. Was totally stuck 3-4 times and would have died forever without this.

I just saw the video... I tried it before two hours, now I can say, I will not achieve this level even in 1000 years LOL. Now I am playing 12 years after it was released... This level is so epic!!!
I remember seeing this level for the first time on my phone. It wasn't on the 360, and I had beaten LIMBO on it when it first came out. It was such a nice surprise and I beat it with good headphones in about 10 minutes with a few deaths. Audio cues are everything in this puzzle. The two giant saws were the most trouble, but I learned to listen until you can hear the highest pitch whirl of the saw. That's the closest you can get, and it really helped. Everything else was pretty easy for me. Such a wonderful little secret.

These small circular saws in the dark drive me completely nuts. I know you can hear when they're just about to hit you, but I can't get my timing for the jumps right just yet. We'll see if I get past them after I gave my hands some rest!
Update: I got the achievement!! The angelic choir kept me motivated during the gun/elevator-sequence. What a feeling! Thank you for this guide - even though it's 8 years old it seems to help people (like me!) to this day :)

i really like limbo a lot. innovative puzzles and platforming, graphically it's gorgeous. but parts of ding i found to be extremely frustrating due to darkness. yes, there are some audio hints here and there, but some of the small saw sequences were downright unfair and annoying. there's nothing clever about platforming you have to perform in the dark (specifically that last small saw. i'm jumping around in complete darkness. i managed to avoid the saw several times by chance but no matter how hard i jumped i couldn't move forward as if something was blocking my way. i don't know what i did differently to make it to the end of that sequence but i just kept jumping). nevertheless, this guide is very well done. thank you.
Thanks a lot for this video. I followed it and I finally got the Ding trophy (PS3). I still died about twenty times but it was a lot worse before watching your walkthrough. Now I just have to play the whole game with 5 deaths max, and I think it's gonna be okay, I know the game well.

Hey those little ambient noises starting from 0:24 are from the track Gravity Jump off the official soundtrack, specifically starting at 3:02 of Gravity Jump. Beautiful stuff.
I just learnt that this level existed and I succeeded in it in not too many retries... But wow!! The idea of everything in the dark or almost, is clever, even though some traps are just annoying and forcing you to die at least once :) I freaked out when the door closed at first...
I didn't see the guide, I recommend just playing through it blindly if you can. Yeah it can be hard, too,k me about twenty minutes, but you feel awesome using all the context clues the game gives you and using that to pass a certain area. Really fun level in all honesty.

Yep, the secret level is pretty hard, but I just did it lol. It wasn't as how I expected to.It was pretty easy, but it was pretty scary to run in the darkness and be killed by a saw :)) :D Also, nice walkthrogh, but I didn't really needed it.Good job ! :P

I've beat the game, yet it is still unlocked. The lit candles represent the amount of hidden eggs you've found. And I assume you need to lit them all to gain access.

I died mostly on the 3 saws one light semi light and darkness, darkness kept killin me but this secret level was quite fun! Lol good show chap!

just completed this insane level & finally got my last achievement.
awesome tutorial you help to get my last achievement for this game. i think this is much harder than the original game.
Easier way to get pass the 3 saws in PC version ...
1st saw
a) run under and immediately STOP once you are just clear
b) wait for it to come down and make CLUNK sound
c) wait exactly 1 second then run
2nd saw
d) keep running; you will pass safely underneath =)
3rd saw
e) wait 4 seconds
Should make it easier to get past this section

Beat it earlier with no guides and lowest brightness setting. The part with the blade presses in the darkness was the hardest. I was hoping the secret levels would dump out into some sort of secret ending. I was sad when it just took you back to the main path :(

No, you don't. I had access to this path (and even completed it) even though I hadn't collected any eggs, except for the egg that's right before the path, inside the cave. I should mention I had beaten the story once. Maybe that's what unlocked it.

@Spri: Maybe a little outdated, but; Tested it, it's the same as to hatch the egg, so no endless fall. Take the chain down. While hatching the egg I know that I wondered why you couldn't swing the chain

So, after playing the entirety of Limbo, including the secret level, I now know that I will never achieve the last achievement for only dying five times during one session. Thx for the help with the secret level tho, it helped a lot :)

How do you make sure that initial door by the candles is open? It's always been closed for me
if you collected 10 eggs and beat the game once then the door will open
