      @@Jordan-Ramses Just cause it's looking semi playable doesn't mean it's not potentially a scam though, particularly since a number of other devs have cobbled together something real simple and easy for a trailer, or for the "game" itself (day of dragons is an example of something that's like, maybe half playable, but clearly buggy and missing features). All it does is show that they weren't taking the super lazy route for it.

    - No demonstration of melee combat
    - No working (driveable) vehicles
    - No environment interactions (jumping? climbing? mantling? vaulting? fall damage?)
    - Zombies not demonstrating the ability to pursue players (other than in straight lines) Where is the hording?, flocking?, pathfinding?

      Also its clear that when thy moved the engines porting shaders and other solutions from the vertical slice was a no go, it looks like its still in "early access" alpha stage and there isnt really a full game. I expect even with a delay it will still release in a simillar state, all those games do.

      It looks like a techdemo at best. Something a small team could create in a relatively short time. It's just simple AI and some shooting. The animations are so downgraded from what we've seen earlier that you can litteraly make more dynamic ones by watching a 50 min tutorial on youtube.
      But hey. What do you expect from devs supposedly creating this game in the arctic and on beaches with ultra slim laptops and lenovo tablets.

    I liked the part where the player spent 5 minutes carefully crafting and inspecting their factory fresh Ultra Tactical Spec Ops AK-47000 with adjustable synthetic stock, tactical ACOG optics, suppressor, extended tactical magazine, tactical flashlight, and tactical foregrip only to immediately reveal that the formidable foe they're facing is a sparse and scattered population of unarmed, brain-dead, half blind zombies that move slower than an old lady browsing the soup aisle at the grocery store. It looks like you could beat this game with a .22 revolver, but of course that wouldn't satisfy the gun fetishists so they needed to shoehorn in a gun crafting system to trick them into thinking this is a real gameplay trailer.
    Also, these graphics are very 2013. If you told me this was a GTA5 or Tomb Raider (2013) mod I'd believe you.

These look like they just rolled off a factory floor, every last one of them. This should be called the day after. It's a game you play the day after an actual protagonist saves the world from the zombie outbreak and you're one of the few survivors who've made it. Running around a city with like 10 zombies in it where the only sound for miles would be the reverberation of the gun firing shows just how empty a world it is. realistically it seems like it's going to lean on PVP to make up for the lack of much if any PVE elements.

    • @ectothermic
      @ectothermic Год назад +11

      Honestly, that sounds like a good idea. It wouldn't be very exciting or even much of a game, but I like it.
      The world is already saved, your player character might've contributed but you don't really have a goal anymore, just finishing off the remaining zombies in your local area and surviving until things get back on track. It could be an interesting little look into life post-war, with characters who share their stories about how bad it was just a few weeks ago, and humanity came together against a common enemy.
      I'd like to play that. Maybe it could still have PvP or missions that take you into more infested areas for actual gameplay loops, but for the most part the main plot could be chill casual gameplay. That's a very idealised and probably impossible game, but your post made me think about it. Lol.

      @@norrecvizharan1177 It's hard writing a story when your central plot thread is the epilogue itself, but I think it would lend itself well to an endless survival game. @Infinity Tea Lizard the problem would also be don't accidentally make the story your coming in after more compelling than the aftermath story. But it shouldn't also be generic. Lends itself to much to criticism of the genre for necessary breaks from reality for the game to work.
      A solution would be smaller scale problems and the "main character" of the last story is a character in their own right. A parody of the usual protagonist of the genre but not a mean spirited one. It's actually pretty easy to figure out what the standard main character of most genres would act like when not the main character anymore

    Another red flag to point out: There are no tooltips, at all. When they loot items or hover over them in the inventory, the game doesn't tell you anything about them. They're just JPGs that can be moved around from slot to slot, essentially. Same with the weapon augments. When they switch them around, there are no tooltips popping up, telling you how they affect the weapon. You have to basically keep an eye on the stat bars at the bottom to know how they change the weapon.

The zombies are there as an obstacle to make PvP more interesting and stop you from just running through a town real quick and looting with no consequence. It totally looks real, go watch the gameplay. Look at the zombies all reacting the exact same way when the player rolls up, standing there screaming and not moving whatsoever so the person showcasing 'gameplay' can shoot them all. Add in nine minutes of walking simulation with next to nothing happening and you've got a real, completely actual gameplay trailer. (sarcasm)

      Add to that the player when leaving the house turns left up the road, then turns left immediately knowing the zombies were there prior to seeing or hearing them. Heavily scripted, possibly "real" in the sense that it exists, but I doubt there is more outside of what they showed. Because if there was, they would show it at this point. Or at least show more than they did.

    The world is very empty. There is nobody in it. No other players, no bodies littering the streets, no zombies just milling about looking for food or munching on a corpse. When you did run into zombies it felt wrong, not natural. And with no ui at all except a loot button showing up and then we get to see the loot interface, it feels like a fake game. Like this is all they have and they didnt even play it at that, we were just watching a movie basically a script run.

    That whole video strikes me as "People are saying our game is a scam; we have to do something about that". Ironic, then, that their gameplay footage did such a poor job of dispelling that notion. At best, if this game isn't fake, this video made strides in suggesting that it's nowhere near what it's been touted to be up to this point. I'm actually stunned by how little this footage presented to us. At most, it presented the kind of atmosphere one would expect from a post-zombie-apocalyptic world: desolation, darkness, and uneasy silence, but in this case, all those elements did is make me think this game has very little to offer. Where's the communication between players? Where are other survivors? Why are there so few zombies? I don't want a big zerg-rush of zombies when I turn every other corner, but the lack of them was noticeable.
    I don't have any dogs in this race one way or another, so it's not like I either have unreasonably high expectations for it, or want it to fail. I'd like to think, however, that I know red flags when I see them, and this footage planted more for this game than removed them.

They havnt done anything wrong yet, but they are promising all they things, and they started development not long ago, and were promising to get a beta out in just a few months.

  • @antisocialmotorist6909
    @antisocialmotorist6909 Год назад +2

    Biggest fear for myself that sheds doubt is the apparent lack of assets around, items like functioning cars, lootable things or areas, zombies, everything feels like its a "background". When you create all of those things and add them to a world it causes massive issues for how games run. Look at DayZ zombies lag depending on the patch there might only be 20 on a screen at that time, Tarkov has lots of areas to loot but its a "snap" shot type of a map where there are fixed borders, that has issues also because of the amount of entities within the map.
    This is an open world mmo? God help the size of the battleship server power you would need to support that. World war z is an example of that, yes there is lots on screen but most of the time its "background" zombies or they are a type of "mesh" as one unit that breaks apart rather than a single model.
    They have to release a demo at this point, otherwise the rumors will just continue to spread. By this point there should be a playable aspect they could release.

    • @kenny42069
      @kenny42069 Год назад +2

      I think it's especially telling that this is supposed to be an open-world "MMO" yet we have no idea what the world will be like, how big the map is or even how many people will be on a server.

    The lack of horde mechanics shown is a massive red flag for me. I can almost guarantee it has bad performance issues, its not hard just to just slap a bunch of zombies into an area to demonstrate it. I dig zombie games and play a good amount of PZ and L4D2, but this looks like its gonna need a ton of work. The gunplay, world, and inventory/UI looks fine, but thats realistically less than half of the stuff required to make this a good game. They probably woulda been better off not showing this honestly. You were absolutely right dayz is a running sim, and thats why I stopped playing it. Its only tolerable if u go to a 5x loot server with more car spawns.

    I'm satisfied with this Gameplay to be honest.
    This video is not to show what they have or show any systems. it is to show off that the Game is real. They told us they were gonna show a Gameplay video of 10minutes. They delivered. Straightforward and Direct, with a small intro and no Outro. DONE.
    What they shown here, is basically the Basics of a Zombie Survival Game:
    - You Scavenge
    - You Loot
    - you Craft
    - you combat Thirst and Hunger
    - You fight Zombies (to be honest were verry little, maybe for Performance issues or something)
    People calling it a Running Simulator is basically summing up what a Zombie Survival Game is. Look at DayZ or State of Decay (who are Zombie Survival Games at their Core) when u do not have a Car.
    Basically 80% of the time playing zombie survival games, you are doing what these two players are doing in the video, Running, Looting and then if this video had a actual ending, Dying somewhere with a bunch of Loot on you and saying: 'okay i had a good run' (sums up the Life of a DayZ player).
    EDIT: i saw the HUD pop up a few times, soemtimes a STamina Bar, in the inventory menu, when the character was drinking that juice.
    I bet the HUD like health will pop up when u recieve damage.
    Final Notes: I hope this video is a Milestone for Fntastic to start more on PR and release more gameplay videos like those. We Need videos showing the Vehicle systems, the Survivor Colony (including Main / Side Quests), Housing System,...
    I want this game to be REAL, a 100%. But we need more evidence of gameplay videos.

    One thing I find strange (but not impossible) is that while it's clearly a keyboard (it says to press F something) game, the character movement is not behaving like its using WASD.
    WASD movement "forces" movement to be based on 45º angles to the camera unlike using a controller.
    Now doesn't mean it can't be done. You can use root motion to make the character slowly face the direction and make a smooth transition, but it comes at a cost of the movement not feeling responsive.

Check the 1st trailer, the alarm panel is identical to the farmhouse one with the same numbers rubbed off. The shop who’s doorway cuts the corner, just like one in the old city trailer, much like the content, just jogging & quizzical scavenging animation. Don’t wish list this.
