The X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe when one of their own, Jean Grey, starts to spiral out of control. I think the big problem with the dark Phoenix movies, is you kind of need a "phoenix saga" before a dark Phoenix saga. Jean Grey's ascension from a useless eye candy token character to an omega level mutant is significant and amazing. The shiar empire is a formidable foe otherwise invincible save for Phoenix. Then to turn around and see all that power turn back on the X-Men should have the same gravitas as Xavier killing the X-Men in Logan

You do realize that with her original powers without the Phoenix force she is already a classified omega level mutant right? She didn't need Phoenix force to be that it only made her even more powerful.

While this prequel series was MOSTLY good, this one was utter dog shit & strayed COMPLETELY away from the actual Phoenix saga arc. Really pisses me off that Bryan Singer had to turn out to be a worthless predator because the guy can make one hell of an X-Men film, but this one was trash because it was directed by Simon Kinberg. Couldn't even watch the whole thing.
