Exactly, when people were trying to help her to understand her new power, she shun them. But when a new anonymous person tells her to submit to this newfound power, she listened? Notice how she didn't feel remorse for an appropriate amount of time after killing Mystique? And then suddenly feel powerful after hearing few words from the villain.
The thing is, in the comics, the dark phoenix storyline was built up for YEARS. Jean was shown to always struggle with her powers and was often in training with Xavier. He even foreshadowed her evil turn years prior to the saga. Jean was also a beloved character that readers grew up with and seeing her finally give in to evil was gut wrenching and sad. You can't do this saga in one movie since it has too much stuff to build up from. It needs to be a three movie build up, at LEAST. And its sad cause the Phoenix Saga is one of the best x men storylines and seeing it botched not once, but twice is just horrific
MCU is going to build up multiple X-Men movies before concluding with Phoenix Saga. .. It will be done in the same vein of Infinity Saga but with lesser movies

Logan was the perfect, sad, yet amicable breakup. We went our separate ways on a great final respectful note. Dark Phoenix is when you try to re-hook back up on a lonely night after a few drinks. You know each other, but it's all just physical. The love is gone.
@Rob Melrose Or, it's the old friend of your ex's who you haven't hung out with, but you end up going home with her because it feels familiar enough... Then you find out she's into hook suspension and masochism, and has her tongue forked down the middle. After sex, she starts punching you in the face because you didn't tell her that you loved her, and you just get the f**k outta there, man!
Another problem was, no one wanted a dark phoenix movie. When Jean Grey did her thing during the climax of apocalypse you see the dark phoenix symbol for a second and I heard the entire cinema groan.
this movie reminds me of those direct to DVD Disney sequels from the 90s, where they'd add new characters, reverse character arcs, or even revive dead characters just for the sake of cranking out a sequel and making a few extra bucks.
@John Doe you want to explain how it was woke trash? Yeah movies like terminator dark fate and Ghostbusters 2016 were woke trash, but How'd you conclude Logan was woke?
Mr Orc Shaman it’s all woke trash now, but it’s incredible how Rian Johnson was talking about subversion being a big part of his movie when subversion is such a huge part of what’s going on right now.
Jean is alive at the end of days of future past (when logan wakes up in the future.) even though she clearly dies or passes on as the phoenix force in this one lmao. Don't tell me its in a different timeline since time is linear in the Xmen Universe (as it is shown in Days of Future past, whatever Logan changes in the past directly affects his own timeline so the new movies are still ocurring in the same timeline where Logan woke up and Jean was still alive). Its just another case of Fox not knowing how to handle an interconnected universe properly.
Sebastien Napoleon nah. she’s okay, but not good enough for me to legit not want her to leave. her American accent is terrible. someone else could do better.
The actors/characthers I will miss of the X-men franchise are both Magnetos and Xaviers, the Beast of the Last Stand, Quicksilver, and of course, Wolverine.
X-Men 3: The Last Stand *Magneto: I prefer the real conclusion of the X-Men series.* X-Men: Dark Phoenix *Magneto: I said the REAL conclusion of the X-Men series.* Logan *Magneto: Perfection.*
@@Fi_Sci_ In my alternate version of the last X-Men movie I envisioned Magneto dying instead, Fassbender's Magneto is easily the most sympathetic character in the franchise so giving him a closure would be fitting, not to mention be actually moving. And like Logan it'd be R-rated to make the violence and the deaths more realistic and impactful. Making another Dark Phoenix story is absolutely stupid because in Days of Future Past when Logan wakes up in the rebooted timeline adult Jean is still alive, so OF COURSE she won't die when she's younger, there's no tension. Perhaps since in my version Mr. Sinister is the villain and Transigen would be involved, Jean is replaced by a clone, so that way we also have foreshadowing that cloned Jean and Scott will give birth to Cable. Likewise I'd also briefly show Xavier's stepbrother Cain Marko leaving to explore some temple thus foreshadowing that he'll find the gem that'll turn him into Deadpool 2's Juggernaut. Ian McKellen's Magneto didn't show up in the ending so unlike Jean his younger self CAN die in the new timeline. Hell, maybe his absence helped Transigen do what they did to nearly extinct mutantkind. My take of the film would contain foreshadowings to Logan and Deadpool 2, and the main thing would be Nightcrawler and Quicksilver confronting their respective parents (Mystique and Magneto), and we maybe get a tragic flashback of Mystique leaving baby Kurt to a circus to keep him safe from Trask's men, just give some pay off between the characters and tie the loose ends, god damn it, it's the final film of the series.
@@DeepEye1994 The problem with that is they already screwed up the whole origins of all these characters. By making mystique a BFF of charles that supposedly grew up with him, making her unable to abandon baby Kurt by a Church, where he picks up his values from. As she would've been with charles at child birthing age if she was "found" as a 6 year old. The whole x-men series stopped following any semblance of following their origins after X2. 1/2 had some minor tweaks but the characters still had the same personalities and traits of their comics respectively. Then they brought in actors/actresses that thought they knew better, and literally revolved the story around logan/mystique, by bastardizing the stories they are based off of. Days of future past, Logan is not the one that goes back in time. Mystique is never BFFs with Charles and is very much playing to her own ends most of the time. And is very against human rights, but here we are because the pro mutant actress can't do the process she signed up for, a mystique that is "pro mutant" but human 90% of the time.
Jackman, Mcavoy, Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian were extremely well cast. Evan Peters was also super well cast. I can’t see those characters being played by anyone else they’re goated

ravinraven6913 i mean, the event in First Class where his legs' functionality were stolen is the important bit. He could have just let magneto utterly destroy the navy ships, but he didn't and begged him not to. And in that altercation he got shot (by crossfire, sure, but still because they disagreed). Regardless, he was disabled while saving the world from nuclear disaster. Not on a simple car crash or something. So it's still a pretty dang sacrifice. Also, if you look at Days of Future's past, he can walk, even though it's after that event. He explains it's because of a drug he takes, enabling him to walk but removing his powers. So yeah, keeping that canon, he sacrifices his ability to walk so that he can continue to protect the world.

I honestly hated how they decided Mistique needed to be developed from full-on villain to a dedicated member of the X-Men She was never in the X-Men with good intentions And it's appalling how first class is supposed to take place before X1, and we're supposed to just accept the events they shat out
It's probably because Jennifer Lawrence and the writers thought that Mystique was just an overglorified henchwoman of Magneto, which doesn't fit their agenda of a "strong independent female leader who can be a role model to young girls worldwide." It's probably the same reason why Harley Quinn got so damn popular as a standalone character despite also being an overglorified henchwoman of the Joker, who is more interesting than her anyway. Also note that the OG Mystique was a woman who was constantly naked while doing an old man's dirty work for him, always killing people and sneaking around when not listening to Magneto's speeches about mutant supremacy. I never had a problem with the old Mystique because Rebecca Romijn brought actual mystique and strength to the character, to the point that I didn't need to hear her make any speeches just to know how dangerous or important she was. It was quite an ironic thing that despite lacking any clothing, she was by far NOT the most vulnerable person in the X-Men films. Romijn's Mystique truly was a femme fatale and worthy of being an interesting villain in her own right, and her defeat in The Last Stand was actually an interesting low point to show just how ruthless Magneto was, even to his most trusted friend.
@@TrueMentorGuidingMoonlight Quinn is so disappointing because she was such an interesting character when she was created: a madwoman who had tried to help the Joker, became obsessed with him, and went insane. She's still incredibly competent when she puts her mind to it, able to adopt different accents and behave as a professional in order to play different roles for infiltration and espionage... And then in the 2010s DC went "Nah, female Deadpool who farts a lot!"
@@TrueMentorGuidingMoonlight This. She was never only a henchwoman, she had her own interests and she was capable enough to follow them. And although she was loyal to Magneto you always felt she was only there bc she wanted to. When in the end of the last movie it was teased that mutant powers would return the most interesting thing for me was what Mystique will do now, will she confront Magneto?!. To this day the recast is my biggest issue with x-men, but her story was all but annihilated after that too, so... Funny how Magneto in First Class says she shouldn't spend half her energy on pretending to be something else, implying her future development and growing acceptance of herself, but she never actually follows this advice (bc the blue make up looks ridiculous on her probably). Romijn's Mystique never had to be told anything, she was fully developed personality by the time we met her in the movies - and made an incredibly interesting character at that.

It’s like an autopsy: you know it’s dead, but you gotta do an autopsy anyways to see who or what killed it.
Kinberg chose to completely ignore that even though he's the one who wrote it. It's just another error In a long line of them in this error filled series
The only possible explanation is that she already had those powers & the phoenix force simply brought them out of her & amplified them, but the whole thing is really just a continuity error. X-Men was nothing short of groundbreaking at its time. Comic-book movies up until then were frankly dull half-arsed attempts that no studio took seriously, filled with bad acting and cheap effects, with very little in the way of a target audience. Even Blade in 1998 was refreshing for its adult tone, more enjoyable than the rest, and still enjoyable today, but lacking complexity and depth. X-Men introduced the concept of comic-book characters in an actual story, with layers and themes, with characters who had more than one note, with protagonists who didn't know what side they should be on, and with a villain whose plan was more than just "blow up the world". On a side-note, Captain Marvel harks back to the dark days of 80s and 90s comic-book shite. It's a 2019 comic-book movie made in the style of a 90s comic-book cinematic abortion. Danvers' single-minded drive to just get to the end of the story, with over-the-top flouncing and posturing, mirrors the sort of stuff you'd see in rubbish from decades ago. I don't think this is deliberate, but it's interesting nonetheless, so I'll say it's accidentally meta. X-Men proved that comic-book movies were a viable candidate for what could become mainstream and it did it by genuinely being a film about characters rather than showcasing special abilities.

Logan was our goodbye and I'm absolutely, perfectly fine with that.
Texas Dice a goodbye that wasn’t even satisfying, but a decent one at least
this movie reminds me of those direct to DVD Disney sequels from the 90s, where they'd add new characters, reverse character arcs, or even revive dead characters just for the sake of cranking out a sequel and making a few extra bucks.
Logan was woke trash, IMO. It does what TLJ does to Luke, but an in an even more cold and disrespectful way.

The Problem is you just cant adapt a comic or book 1 to 1
How? When you are arrogant or ignorant enough to imagine YOU can add something to this!
Because the only guy who thought it was a good idea was Zach Synder.
I don’t think this movie failed but other super hero movies have.
So Mystique dies in a prequel to a movie where she's alive and well?
Continuity: "Nah, it'll be fine."
Yeah, I can't even begin to explain that one.
It's simple days of Future past shifted them into a different timeline/ universe so they aren't prequels anymore

•Vï •Mo• We need more Depressing Superhero flicks in our day and age haha
And is very against human rights, but here we are because the pro mutant actress can't do the process she signed up for, a mystique that is "pro mutant" but human 90% of the time.

ravinraven6913 i mean, the event in First Class where his legs' functionality were stolen is the important bit.
@@ravinraven6913 I'm not a fake wtf does that even mean I've been an x men comic fan for years not that it matters but as someone has already pointed out to you in this universe not comic xmen he got crippled in a different way he can take a drug to walk that blocks his powers so he chooses not to take the drug every day

I honestly hated how they decided Mistique needed to be developed from full-on villain to a dedicated member of the X-Men
She was never in the X-Men with good intentions
And it's appalling how first class is supposed to take place before X1, and we're supposed to just accept the events they shat out
Not only a member but the most important member... how do they screw up this franchise this badly?
@@Vherstinae I completely agree.

Didn’t Sansa flash her Phoenix powers at the end of the _Apocalypse_ movie?
so, ever going to explain that?
No didn’t think so LuL
Kinberg chose to completely ignore that even though he's the one who wrote it.
It's just another error In a long line of them in this error filled series
Because he sucks as a director.
Reminds me of the final season of GoT when every episode starts with the script of the previous episode and says "actually that didn't happen..."
I didn’t even think about that. Very observant.
The only possible explanation is that she already had those powers & the phoenix force simply brought them out of her & amplified them, but the whole thing is really just a continuity error. The director obviously just wanted the end of Apocalypse to be an easter egg to Dark Phoenix, regardless of it making absolutely no sense. Nothing more than a "Hey, guys, guess what we're doing next? 💥🦅🔥 HINT HINT" moment to get people hyped up for the next film.
My "favorite" scene was when Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique said they should rename the group to X-Women because the women are always saving the men, right after the guys had to save her because she was too stupid to do anything right. That's actually where I stopped watching.

With how fast Quicksilver has been shown to be. As in, the instant an explosion went off, he rounded up an entire mansion full of kids and put them outside... and he was pissing about whilst doing it.
They had to nerf him so hard.
I don't care how powerful Jean is psychicly. Quicksilver would have downed her within, like, an 8th of a picosecond. Jean ain't reacting to that 😂

Pretty much, though Apocalypse's slow mo scene and the mind battle between Xavier and Oscar Isaacs are good looking scenes. Really like Deadpool movies too. I said it was a time for the drinker. When they tried turning x into the villain at points in the film, seemed a little crazy. I basically tuned out after this was said.
X was one of my favourite characters in x men (aside from Hugh Jackman and quick ). All of his hope and how he was able to 'be the light' for magneto and just hope and forgiveness and his character in general. This movie just shat him out and was made into this horrible character who was only into it for himself or how he just turned into this angry dude in a wheelchair who just seemed to be weak. 7:13...
Also, the fact that with the addition of Logan contradicting DOFP, really making this theme is that hope and ideals are pointless.

The Drinker usually makes me laugh out loud with his reviews but this one had my crying with laughter. Likening an XMen movie to an abusive relationship lol That will never get old!
Adam, Very good analysis from a historical context of filmmaking.
How do you manage to make a mistake in writing when the source material is literally already written and loved, and has been for years?! It's like fucking up being born, at 10 years of age.
The movie was meant to be the first part of a duology but the merger resulted in the sequel being axed and it was re-edited to remove plot threads that were meant to be expanded on in sequels. The film is actually faithful to the earlier segments of the saga.
