I think they had a story already in mind for the third installment with the Joker, but had to scrap it because Heath passed. So they had to come up with something in a hurry, and ending up landing on Bane. Which I guess is because they decided a worthy physical adversary for Batman would be the next most interesting thing, and with the the League of Shadows connection from Batman Begins, they could explain that.
Overall, I think they did a good job of wrapping up the story, and I still really enjoy The Dark Knight Rises despite its flaws. It was very emotional, and we see further growth from Bruce as a character, as he finds purpose in life outside of Batman. I can understand why some people don't enjoy it or really care for it, but I think there is some nitpicking from reviewers.

He couldn't have used gasoline, it would have evaporated. And especially because it was a vertical surface. You may be able to catch some of the fumes it was a puddle, if there was no wind. But on a vertical surface? No. First, the fuel would just run down the side, spreading it thin. And because you are up on a bridge you would have *_A LOT_* of wind blowing the fumes away. Which, if you didn't know, the fumes are what catches fire, not the fuel itself. In fact, you can do a little experiment; take some gasoline, put it in a metal bucket and toss a match into the bucket. You know what will happen? The match will fall into the gasoline and be snuffed out, the end. You might be able to soak some styrofoam in gasoline, which make a gelatin substance, and then spread that on and set _that_ on fire in this way, like it is depicted in the movie.
Or you can just do what they did for the movie and make it CGI.

In one, an effeminate villain with a handful of lackeys and a personal vendetta with the hero executes an attack on the hero at his family manor. The hero uses a secret tunnel to escape the trap and turn the tables.
In the other, a megalomaniac with a small army is threatening nuclear destruction. The hero sneaks in backed up by his own army, and the two armies fight it out while the hero takes out the megalomaniac.
In short, he posited, the two scripts were being carried and the carriers ran smack into each other, papers flying! After a mad scramble to get their pages back together, Bond got a Batman ending while Batman got a Bond ending!

Regardless of Rises itself as a movie, the way Nolan and the writers approached Batman and his world could've accommodated a 5 movie series, easily.
    1 - the origin
    2 - escalation
3 - vilification and defeat (Bane breaking him)
4 - the return, vindication, and bringing in Robin (or at least a potential successor)
5 - the finish to Bruce Wayne's story, solidifying the idea of Batman into a true legend (referencing Ducard/Ra's line in Begins) and the passing of the torch to the successor/Robin
I know Nolan wanted to be finished and WB had their own plans for Batman, rushing to establish the DCEU. But seeing how that didn't crash and burn, but rather exploded on the launch pad, now it seems like an especially squandered opportunity for what could've been an incredible series unto itself.

To be fair to Nolan, he got absolutely screwed by circumstances outside his control when Heath Ledger sadly passed away. He likely had a plan that either had to be scrapped or salvaged at the 11th hour. It’s not an iron clad excuse for the plot holes, but I give him more slack than the brain dead writers today that make worse plot mistakes and have no real excuse.
Despite its flaws, I’m still a big fan of this movie. While the pit doesn’t really make sense from a narrative standpoint, I love the symbolism it represents, using fear not just as a tool against one’s enemies, but also as a motivator in the face of hopeless odds.

While I agree with many of the hangups (police in the sewer, stock exchange BS), I do think Bane's plan deserves a bit more examination. I interpreted the whole thing as a torture device for Bruce Wayne, an ultimate revenge for his destruction of the League of Shadows. "When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die." Bane knew Wayne would never respond to bodily torture or fear of death, so he chose to torture his most beloved cause instead: Gotham City. So he cut the city and watched it bleed discontent. (The riots were almost certainly a commentary on the silly "occupy" movements popular in America at the time.) All the while he held a blade over Gotham's neck, telling Wayne that at any moment, someone could execute it. Yes, the plot had to jump through some extreme hoops to prop up this premise, but it's a fascinating premise nonetheless.

Drinker, I have to disagree with you on a particular point in the plot In regards to the opening act with the two planes...
While I concede the plot surrounding it unrealistic and ridiculous, the first aircraft bring unaware of another plane coming up behind it is quite conceivable.
Airliners don't have mirrors, don't have rear windows, don't have rear cameras and their windows are flush with the body, so rear angled view is limited at best, totally rearward, none.
As for radar and transponders, well airliners only have a forward looking weather radar, which wouldn't be able to detect even aircraft ahead of them in any meaningful way.
Ground based Primary Radar (the kind which sends out and receives pulses) is only used around the immediate area of major aerodromes (approx 30 nautical mile radius).
Other radar (where there is coverage) is Secondary Surveillance Radar, which is dependant on transponders (which can be disabled), and the modern GPS tracking system (ADS-B) can also be disabled, if it's even fitted.
So based on that, it is quite possible for the aircraft in front to not be aware of the aircraft behind if it's running dark!

I don't know that you could suspend the aircraft that way using those points, but assuming you could, that sequence is probably not too far off of what would happen. I think the C-130 would have had a hard time staying straight and level, and the people in the smaller plane probably would've been thrown all over the cabin as the wings came off, but the rest isn't that unbelievable.
The smaller aircraft would likely have upward facing windows in the cockpit, but the pilots wouldn't be paying that much attention to them.
Incidentally, I used to work at the airport that C-130 is (or was at the time) based out of (Phoenix-Mesa Gateway). I can confirm they did use a real aircraft for much of the opening scene.

The bullshit excuse used by the film was that there were "dozens of miles" of underground sewer areas that Bane's men could've been using. Compare Gordon's ordering literally every cop into the sewers, VS his actions in The Dark Knight when he tactically orders units to evacuate hospitals and secure the city. This plot line was bullshit because:
      A) Only tactical and SWAT teams would likely be sent into the sewer systems to hunt down Bane's men. If they needed more personnel, they'd call in units from neighboring cities or bring in state/federal forces to assist. One city PD wouldn't do it all on it's own, and even with most/all SWAT officers trapped, you would still have literally every other cop in the city.
      B) The fact that it was established in TDK, that outside forces (such as the National Guard) would be deployed to assist GCPD. The Army NG have special forces groups that would infintrate Gotham and assist the citizens and leftover cops in fighting against Bane's men. It's literally what they train for: Infiltration, recon and building up guerilla forces.
This whole movie was full of fucking plot holes like this, destroyed at the first critical thought. TDKR sucked ass.

That was my most immediate criticism too. Batman employed brute force *and* multiple fighting techniques in his first encounter (which he lost) so when he meets Bane again he employs just brute force (and wins)? I thought, what's the point in Batman's peerless expertise in fighting techniques if he isn't going to use them? This is THE thing about Batman: he is unbeatable at martial combat. There are many experts in ju-jitsu, karate, judo, boxing, MMA, etc. but no one but Batman has mastered them all *and* has super-weapons and gadgets designed specifically for winning in fights. Yet when faced with Bane did he cut loose and give the audience (and Bane) a dazzling display of the greatest unarmed combat assault ever witnessed - the only kind of brilliance that could take down a monstrous maniac like Bane? No, he merely fought like a one-dimensional boxer throwing head punches with louder grunts. It wasn't even as if he had a deliberate plan to remove Bane's mask (which should have been an obvious first tactic when he first took him on if only to dislodge it over his eyes). No, the mask gets knocked off incidentally and only then does he realise that Bane is weakened by its removal.

There are some ridiculous fails in this movie that were not adressed here:
The thing that annoyed me the most is how Robin figures out that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Basically Robin sees Bruce as he visits one of his orphanages and recognizes the "angry look" on Bruce's face that only oprhans have. Thats it..
WTF?! Bruce has an angry look because he is an orphan, so what? Everyone knows this already.. every orphan presumably has this look, thats the reason why Robin recognizes it - because he is an orphan too and he feels the same. Wow man you found out that Bruce Wayne is angry due to the murder of his parents. Slow Clap mate. Nothing here - by your own logic - tells you that he is Batman, only that he is an orphan.
Then there is the failed attempts by Bruce to leave the prison.. he falls 30 meters to the ground only to have the fall stopped by a rope that is tied around his waist. This would absolutely rip his spine in two pieces. Maybe rip his whole body in two. There is 0 chance he is not paralyzed after this. The amount of suspension of disbelief that is needed to accept this is so huge it always snaps me right out of the movie and I cannot get back into it.
Weak movie.. no wonder Christian Bale was so disappointed with it!

Robin was just a dude that had a feeling that Bruce Wayne was the Batman, he confronted Bruce about it and Bruce was like whatever I have better things to do then worry about this punk. I personally would remove Robin from this movie, but having a feeling about something isn't forced.
"This would absolutely rip his spine in two pieces.", I've never seen nobody in real life do this kind of stuff and you didn't see it either but I get your point. Batman tries to follow a more realistic approach since he's human and is more hand-to-hand combat, if go look how the whole thing was depicted you may think "I guess a real person would die or be permanently damaged", you can't really expect that in an action movie. At least you have to think twice before realising something wouldn't work like that in real life.
You can't really apply logic to this stuff, if anything he should get his ass beaten up again in the end given that he was injured this time. It could've been better.

Batman Begins is the best movie in the Nolan trilogy in my opinion. Some people would say The Dark Knight is the best. The Dark Knight is a basic movie without Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker. You know those movies where one actor or actress carries the film on their back? The Dark Knight is a prime example. As far as The Dark Knight Rises goes, I don't even waste my time watching it anymore.

    • @badman_iiixiii

I used to be one of the guys that liked The Dark Knight, but found out that I liked Batman Begins a lot more. I love the teacher/student relationship between Ras and Bruce, the different interpretations of justice, the overall theme of fear, and the different shots of the golden colour that gives the movie a sort of a unique, thematic hue.
Plus, I loved that the reason why Bruce doesn't 'deliberately' kill in this universe is because simply, his parents would be ashamed of him, rather than 'oh if he kills one person he wouldn't be able to stop himself from killing more and he would just turn into this unhinged mass muderer' that some material decides to use.

    • @evangriffin9112
      @evangriffin9112 3 месяца назад

Saying "the dark knight is a basic movie without heath ledger" has got to be one of the stupidest things I've read in this comment section.
The movie HAS heath ledgers performance. That is a fact. You can't look at the movie without it. He is the main character. Arguing that a movie would be basic without the key component can be done for anything to ever exist.
His performance is incredible, how can you use that as a argument as to why the rest of the movie is "basic"? You don't have to like it more then begins, everyone has their favourites. But taking heath ledger out of it and saying "see?? It's just average without him!" Is like taking out the heart of someone and saying "see? He's not alive if he doesn't have his heart!!"

I'm sure you're right on those counts, but he admitted he didn't want to be there after Ledger died.
