This game did this seamless transitions on the 360 back in 2007 and now people is getting wet with the seamless transitions in Final Fantasy VII remake, lol.
It can't be overstated just how goddamn impressive the transition from cutscene into gameplay was back in 2008(2007 even, in japan). Fuckin' mindblowing at the time.
Yeah, it is until you know the trick. It's something that could probably have been done earlier, since it just applies the battle on-screen display while the end of the movie is still playing, but the CGI video quality is high enough that the transition between video and real-time, which is the camera change at 3:10, isn't so jarring. With later Xbox 360 games, on a single disc, video tended to be more compressed, so you would see more compression artefacts that would give away which is video and which is gameplay just a bit more. That's the thing. Back in the day on the playstation, the FMV tended to be clearer than the real-time stuff. Now it tends to be the other way around, with the real time gameplay being clearer.
Nah, it's still every bit as impressive even if you dissect it. It's a very creative trick. I love when developers find interesting and unique visual tricks to work around weak hardware. It could have been done earlier, yes, but it wasn't.
@@dr.donkey5427 Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Return of the King both did this before Lost Odyssey FYI, albeit with live-action shots from their movies :) This intro was so superb though.
