Didn't find a solution for my case in this video, but learned a lot anyway! Quick, clear and concise format. Thanks!

Sorry to hear that, true that this specific issue won't be the cause every time, and in fact might be a more rare reason for the problem. Have you tested the lid closed switch on yours?

Crazy good fix. That drive assembly looked closed casing so how did it get in there!😂

Thanks! If someone pulled power while the console was in operation the laser head would be stuck away from it's home position (towards center of disc spindle). Then there is a gap for something to get dropped into and the next time power is turned on the laser head tries to home... *crash
It was such a thin object in this case it just wasn't noticeable from a surface level! Crazy..

This is great I was using a compressed air can cleaning the PS1 now I think in the process of cleaning it something small may have gotten into the reader if it's not the switch to let the system know the trays closed. This helps alot and hope it works, I have a feeling the switch may be broken but could be something in the reader

Amazing video! A few months ago I found an old psone in my grandparents place and was delighted to see it still worked and ran games. The thing was dirty so I cleaned all the parts and reassembled and it stopped working. I gave up on it until I saw this video which inspired me to investigate further. I now see the problem, the button that you manually press at 0:57 isn’t there. I’m having trouble finding out what this piece is technically called so I can order it. Do you know where I might be able to find the name of it?

Thanks! Unfortunately to replace that piece I think you'd either need to steal one from a donor PS1 or 3D print a new one. Alternatively you could tape the actual button down or short the connection with wire so that the console always thinks the lid is closed.

HI! So to summarize the best I can:
I bought a PS1 1999 model, and it would turn on, but would not load discs at all! It will only take me to the Memory card page. Then I did what you did in this video and now it's reading the disc BUT not loading. It will only get to the PLAYSTATION logo and that's it! Help???? I cleaned everything off the best I could, but nothing. Disc will spin but not load the game!

I would try adjusting the potentiometer on the disc drive and possibly reflowing it if the resistance reading is not stable

    550x is not any 1995

I went with the NA launch year of the system in the audio. True that this specific 5501 model was a couple years after that, but the point I was making still stands: It's old.

You never know what you'll find in old systems. You can't question why or how it got in there, just accept it and move on. XD

These RUclipsrs are getting worse and worse nowadays- as if he didn't set that up so as to make a BS video...

Pretty rude accusation, this was a garage sale PS1 and what you see in the video is exactly how I found it. I don't even think this should be hard to believe given this was used primarily by children back in the day. But hey, you do you. Cheers
