This is a very underrated animated special Now granted it does seem like it’s nothing special but it’s still entertaining regardless I’m surprised this special never got released to dvd yet yes it’s on vhs but I bet that vhs tape is rare these days
Thanks for posting this, Rick! I haven't seen this in over forty years. This was one of many animated holiday specials that aired only a few seasons and was forgotten. I do agree with the posters that said your watermark is rather large, but it's understandable.
tolfan you couldn't hardly to eat a jumbo jack there this six year old kid from North Carolina who definitely a cook genius, he learned all from grandpTents and his auntie too. one night Thursday last year, that is. you wouldn't believe he made a real giant replica of JITB's jumbo jack. I'm not kidding. when you think of that burger we grew up on, think about Mr. j'qnreek "bonbon" Barnes, six years old did the exact replica. oh yeah I know what you're say, he better not send this to any mother place including McDonald's. 😂😄😅😆🤣
There second TV special at 32:18 is “Clerow Wilson and the Miracle on PS 14” was the one that I have not seen before, but this special wasn’t released on DVD along with “BC The First thanksgiving” which was released on DVD or not since they removed the NBC variant at the beginning.
Technically, both Clerow Wilson specials were released on DVD as part of a Best of Flip Wilson compilation of the TV series. I don't believe the B.C. special saw a DVD release, but that was released on VHS back in the 80's. www.amazon.com/Best-Flip-Wilson-Show/dp/B000M9CB56
The Embassy VHS release removed the NBC Laramie Peacock variant as well. As you probably know, “BC: The First Thanksgiving” was released on VHS and Betamax by Embassy Home Entertainment back in the 1980’s.
Well...45 years ago no one ever thought that the Macy's Parade would in essence become a Today Show extension, and then after that comes the dog show from Philly, which is quickly becoming a ratings bonanza for NBC, nor would there be a repeat telecast of the parade.
As the party who is providing the video content to Rick, I was first concerned in having this material posted. However, many of the comments being received identify a lot of information I personally would never find out on my own, such as the name of actors appearing in a specific TV commercial, the voice over announcers, broadcast dates, and so on. So the OCV “bug” appearing on the lower right side of the screen doesn’t bother me. However, these, among other program titles that came from a massive collection of videotapes recorded on 1/2” open reel between 1969 through 1975 will be available for later viewing at The Paley Center for Media in New York and Beverly Hills, or through my personal video archive. Contact me at 062902@gmail.com for more details!
I would NEVER provide material that would be presented with a bug on the screen. In fact I was contacted by a History Channel show asking to use a commercial I uploaded here, and I told them I'd let them ONLY if they ran the entire episode without the History Channel bug on the screen- they didn't reply to me after that! Off-air TV from these years has been my holy grail- I've greatly enjoyed the material posted prior to this (I've been able to set my TV to correct the stretched videos) and thank everyone responsible for that, but simply can't tolerate onscreen bugs and am saddened that they've started to appear. If the material absolutely MUST be 'marked' in any way, showing it intermittently would be MUCH more tolerable than having it on every single frame. I was also ready to make a donation for this, but won't if further videos will be constantly bugged. I watch everything on a 75-inch screen and it simply looks terrible. I haven't downloaded anything and wouldn't dream of trying to profit from it, so I feel that I'm being punished for someone else's wrongdoing. (Was anyone directly asked NOT to do this after being found out?) Besides, the frame rate here is already compromised (a long-time technical limit of most online video that only recently has been 'fixed', I've been converting my uploads to take advantage of that) so it's simply impossible for anyone to make a high-quality DVD from this, certainly nothing equaling a transfer directly from the tape! I've heard about the Paley Center but haven't been able to go there, that is exactly the sort of thing that should be put online and I'd be more than happy to pay a subscription fee for that. At the very least, any existing news broadcasts should be made easily available for public viewing (at a price, of course) as they're a valuable part of history. It was incredible watching the recordings of the night Nixon resigned, aside from the frame rate and compression it was just like being there- at the time I was unfortunately a bit too young to appreciate what was going on, my mom says I was crawling around on the floor then! I loved TV growing up and am saddened and disgusted at what it has become now (I wanted to work in it, but decided not to as there are too many things I simply would not have anything to do with) but enjoy the remaining proof of what it used to be and hope it may inspire someone to make it great again. However history should NOT be covered with added graphics and text!
I always knew these two aired together, but I could have sworn they were followed by Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Who on Earth would have wanted to see Cotton Comes To Harlem as a holiday movie to begin with?
one of the funniest cartoons i've ever seen!!..i remember this from November 19, 1973, followed by Flip Wilson's cartoon..B.C. only aired on NBC once; the following year it was in syndication.........
I would like to see NBC or some network rebroadcast the BC special in high definition. I doubt it will ever happen, but it is just an idea. This was hilarious.

Was this the only time that the BC special aired on network television? The next time I saw it was a decade or so later on HBO.. (I don't remember seeing the special peacock intro, but when I downloaded another copy of BC I made my own peacock intro which you can see here: ruclips.net/video/z7Y72Fo6Eok/видео.html )
Excuse me, Obsolete Video, do you have a CBS recording from October 15, 1973? There was a repeat of last year’s “You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown”, followed by the all-new, “Dr. Seuss on the Loose” (Green Eggs and Ham) from DePatie-Freleng. Please let me know.
Yes, in the very first episode, "An Adventure in Color" [September 24, 1961]. Appropriately, the series was primarily sponsored by RCA {"The Most Trusted Name In Electronics"}, NBC's parent company.
Yes. In those days, networks usually informed the public, via a telop slide, "'THE SAME OLD, TIRED SITCOM' will not be presented tonight, in order that we may bring you the following special program....but will return next week, at its regular time." CBS used a telop, through the 1970's, right after their specials, reminding viewers- "'THE SPARKLY-WARKLEES' will return next week at its regularly scheduled time.....over most of these stations."
I thought it was interesting that both slides were read by the same announcer....on our WSAZ, the local slide would likely have been read by either Bud Dailey or Jule Huffman, staff announcers who also did the weather.
Rick, I am your BIGGEST fan and supporter since I am also a TV show preservationist for many years myself but I have to voice my disapproval of the unnecessary watermark/logo you have recently decided to add to your videos. It is a distracting act of overkill. You knew when you first started uploading your wonderful clips that NOTHING is safe on the internet, hence one of the reasons (I assume) you left the watermark off from all your earlier uploads. Your channel was unique and different from the rest of the "wannabe uploaders" since you were a professional restorer and wanted to share your work with the RUclips community. By adding the watermark, it comes off as an egotistical and pretentious way of joining the rest of the amateurs on RUclips who put annoying and space-invading logos/watermarks on every video that basically renders the video as "unwatchable" and unenjoyable. I also assume you uploaded these videos in the first place to showcase your work and to preserve a lot of these videos for historic and educational purposes. The watermark wasn't a part of your video "time capsules" before and there wasn't a problem, but suddenly you're worried, concerned, or even care that an occasional idiot might download it and god forbid sell it? That person is meaningless and insignificant compared to the restoration and preservation that you are doing on RUclips. I implore to either take down the recent watermarked videos and re-upload them without it, or at least, remove it from any future uploads. It seriously cheapens and takes away from all your fine efforts and makes you look like you're afraid of some rare a-hole who might do something with one of your videos for their own gain, or even worse, it comes off as shameless self-promotion by adding a watermark on every frame to get more business, which as I stated earlier, is complete overkill. Your mentioning of your business below all your video headers truly does suffice. I've been preserving and archiving TV shows and rare films for over 40 years, so I speak as someone who is passionate and realistic about such matters. Just my 2-cents.
I’ve already mentioned that there’s NO logical reason for anyone to do this- UNLESS they want to use these videos as teasers to sell us clean copies of them, which I’d happily buy. I watch everything on RUclips on my 75-inch screen and sound system, but since this video has a constant bug I just looked at it on my computer in a small window and skipped to the commercials, and they still looked terrible. I cried like Tiny Tears at how the picture was intentionally ruined. Sadly most people seem to have gotten used to this crap judging by some of the other comments. Network TV has been an unwatchable mess for the past 20 years for the same reason. I wanted to work in TV for a while but would refuse to have anything to do with companies that put constant logos on the screen- I truly hate that practice more than anything else related to TV and video.
Rick basically ignored our pleas to return to uploading logo-less videos with his latest upload about 6 hours ago. He's decided to hock his business and forego rationality as these rare videos will now all basically be unwatchable with a large watermark on the screen to take our attentions away from the video itself. Such a shame. Now he's like every other novice uploader with an ego.
Thanks for putting this up. Looking at vids like these is like looking through windows of time. Keep a-goin'!
Saw this first-run, while sitting on the living room carpet with my brother and sister, in front of our big console TV. (29:20 : Rodney Allen Rippy!)
The lady at the start of this video who does the intro reminds me of one or two teachers I had during my school years.
Monday November 19 1973. These specials look great!!
At least they did before that logo bug was put on it.

That bit on the BC Thanksgiving Special with the speeding turtle always cracks me up!
That's the first time I ever saw a bird pull start a turtle. 😳
I remember that Don't Smoke commercial at the end. I liked the music in it. LOL!

🦃 The following day on Tuesday, November 20, CBS aired the all-new Peanuts holiday special, “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving”!
That funk-inspired closing to Flip Wilson's special was actually similar to a score Dean Elliott composed for the Tom and Jerry short Cannery Rodent.
Probably was an easy day for Dean!
there will never be another b.c. and beetle Bailey. my gosh times really had flown on by.

In those days, General Mills owned Parker Brothers (they controlled it from 1968 through 1987).

That laughing sound effect is also heard in The Sneetches from “Dr. Seuss on the Loose”.
I have the BC special without commercials. Great to see the Flip special.
The BC Thanksgiving special was surprisingly submitted for the 1973 Oscar!
