    Thank you for bringing these stories to life. These ancient mesopotamian/Akkadian myths are the root of all ancient stories and myths.. Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and on even many of the old testament Bible stories are obviously borrowed from ancient mesopotamia. I am so happy I found your channel..

    I find interesting that Ereshkigal and Ishtar in different myths, talk about “raising the dead so they out number the living”

      A lot of scholarly time and effort has been put into the history of myths and trying to match migration patterns to gain insight into the origins and theme of these myths.

      These pagan mythologies from ancient times were all connected by the original Sumerian mythologies. And that mythology was inspired by the Ubaidians aka the Proto Euphrateans, the prehistoric peoples of the Euphrates. Greco-Roman, Hindu and even Norse mythologies were all inspired by these prehistoric cultures. Christianity, Judaism and Islamism (Abrahamic religions) were also inspired by these cultures, this is highly evident in much of the Old Testament, especially Genesis. If we look into who Abraham really was, we find that he was from Ur of the Chaldeans. His father Terah was a Babylonian high priest. The proof is there, if we connect the dots, some won't because they don't want to see the truth. And, they don't like to accept the fact that they've believed a lie their entire life. ✌😄

    Fascinating and beautiful. I had not read this before, and I've done a lot of research in Babylonian and Sumerian myth and beliefs.
    As a retired Counselor, I see Erishkigal's behavior as parallel to that of many sex addicts who had been neglected or lonely as children - "Since I was a little girl ect" describing how she had not laughed or played, a life of loneliness and lack of stimulation. And she ended up in a place even lonelier. I have great compassion for Erishkigal and understand her better.
    "Holy Erishkigal, I sing your praises".

    Ninkigal and Nergal were bound together by the gods, therefore Nergal could travel between the worlds below and above.
    He had obligations to fulfill in both realms and can only spend half of the year in either realm.
    So it is written . Zi Dingir ANNA, Kanpa! Zi Dingir KIA, Kanpa!

    I remember hearing this story back in high school. It was so interesting to listen to. Nearly 7 years pass by after hearing it, I take a couple DNA tests and find out I have Mediterranean ancestry from different countries and part of it is from Iraq. Maybe that is why I was so interested and fascinated by it.

    At 13:30 what is the bread and water of the Annunaki? This is similar to the story of Adapa when he was offered bread and water from Anu to become like the gods.

    • @AprilLynnDowney
      @AprilLynnDowney  9 месяцев назад

      I don't know specifically what they were supposed to be but you are absolutely right about the re-occurring theme - which appears in other religions as well. Nice observation! Think about Adam and Eve and the trees of life and knowledge. Or, part-taking in the "blood and flesh of Christ" for the Eucharist. Or, the Hades and Persephone myth from Greece, where Persephone eats the pomegranate seeds and becomes beholden to the underworld. Today we tend to see religion as static and dogmatic, but in ancient times, ideas and stories were passed around from culture to culture and through time and were adapted.

      @@AprilLynnDowney do you think the Annunaki where real beings who existed? Who ever they where they had such an effect on our world that their legends, and symbols got retold and reshaped for thousands of years after they arrived. I realized the Caduceus staff symbol used by the hospital is not a Greek invention but was actually originated with Ningishzidda. He was with Annu in the Adapa myth along side Dumuzi.

    I think version where Ereshkigal wants to kill Nergal (and he knows about that) and he enters Ereshkigal´s throne-room, pulls her down from the throne and wants to kill her with his ax until Ereshkigal ask him to not to do that and if he don ´t do it she will marry him and they can rule underworld together, is better.

    Just wondering,; after reading,learning and telling these myths,what do you actually believe? Is there a caring god like in the books or wild,selfish,careless gods like in the myths?

    • @AprilLynnDowney
      @AprilLynnDowney  2 года назад +3

      To be honest, I don't really believe either exactly. I tend to feel like if there is a God, all of creation is sort of an experiment to see what happens. Or maybe, "God" is the universe. Or perhaps, the universe is a way of God defining itself, the same way we can define a shape with negative space.... how about you?

    • @custommoto-magazine549
      @custommoto-magazine549 2 года назад

      @@AprilLynnDowney Rather than 'what we believe',the problem is 'what we are' .
      As long as circumstances (feeding,housing,coupling) are convenient,we are assuming that we are humans. But in fact,without any of these circumstances, we're only 'evil-based' - engineered - 'thinking-animals'.
      So, 'being a human' is just a 'concept' which books,religions and doctrins push us to be..and in this story,there has to be an 'unseen-unknown-ungendered' being to fear and stop these evil-based thinking-animals which also brings us another concept..a 'god'!
      If you would ask me not a god but a 'creator',i can easily tell you it's 'Earth and Water'!
      Wish i could tell you the whole story but it would take forever..

Also that part 11:54 when Ereshkigal has been in the bath and put on fine dress and allow you to glimpse her body you must not do what man and woman do... Let's be honest there was no way this wasn't happening...
