Depends on what era you're referring to. If it's "stormaktstiden", then I think it's better for everyone involved that we never become that "great" again. The death toll was horrendous, for everyone involved.
If you're talking about the last 1990's, early 2000's, then I really need to remind you that we already had a lot of immigrants even before the 2003 Iraq war. Difference was, we never heard a lot about them and they usually integrated better.

I don't think you realize just what an influence foreign culture has had on Sweden. From christianity to the recipe for meatballs, none of it originated in Sweden.
It also shouldn't be understated what an impact Sweden has had on other cultures. From the days of the "Kievan Rus" or the gothic hordes that ravaged southern Europe, to modern days of IKEA and pop music.
Imagine a world where every nation was isolationist ... like Japan or China used to be back in the days. If you know your history, you would remember reading how far behind the rest of the world, technologically for example, they became after they did that.

What SD says is that asylum seekers should seek asylum in neighbouring or nearby countries, and not travel halfway across the world to seek shelter. Therefore, SD welcomes the 40,000 Ukrainians presently in Sweden because they come from "our immediate vicinity" ("vår omedelbara närhet") as SD phrases it.

@k khan According to the UN declaration of refugees, it was never meant to be permanent and btw, according to EU rules asylum should be sought in the first safe country. Sweden have no refugees, they are mostly welfare migrants and nothing else.

Agree totally with you .. at least he is addressing the issues we have in Sweden. Many immigrants including me have voted for SD despite the fact that many SDS are racist but we still have hopes that Åkesson will clean SD and make it a nationalist party for those of colors who love Sweden.

There’s nothing wrong with putting the citizens first, the government is bringing in too much refugees and even worse they are barely doing any background checks before letting them come here. Italy is finally doing something about this and seeing the Sweden final results you’re in good hands.

Also, about the background checks, it can literally take *YEARS* to go from immigrant to citizen in Sweden right now, because of all the red tape in our bureaucracy, and that *includes background checks.* It takes them *MONTHS* just to verify if people without ID come from the place they say they come from.
