I'm actually really glad it's not just a gender-swapped version of a 2D Zelda, but something unique and totally specific to the character of Zelda herself.
Zelda has to use her Wisdom, not her Courage.
Wouldn't make sense if zelda suddenly just picked up the sword and shield. Makes sense a zelda led game would be more puzzle/problem solving based.

@@jonathanvaughan4356 You do realize there are different versions of Zelda. She has been a ninja, a magic user and yes she has wielded a sword. This goes way back starting in the 90's with Ocarina.
@MaximumCarnage- yes I do realize this. Not all zeldas do though.
I think it was Aonuma who, in an interview years ago, talked about how he was aware of the demand to play as Zelda. He said that if there were ever gameplay ideas to support going that route they would. I'm super glad to see that years later when Zelda finally gets to be the star, her gameplay is distinct from Links, and not just "swordplay but with a girl now." And it's still distinctly Zelda.
I really appreciate that the Zelda team gave Zelda her own unique combat and puzzle system compared to Link. I know that a lot of people wanted a playable Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom, but I always thought that if she was actually in there, she would have to play very differently from Link and people would end up complaining about the sections where you played as her because they wouldn't like feeling restricted in a game that feels so limitless otherwise.
I really like the idea of summoning the right monster for a situation, it'll feel like a chess game happening in real time.
Finally. I've been eager to see the reaction of my brother-in-Hylia! LET'S GO!!
I also love that it's not treated as a spinoff but a mainline game with the name "The Legend of Zelda". And it's finally appropriate!

As someone who has never played a Zelda game, I honestly spent most of my life assuming Zelda was the main playable character . I had seen a bit of gameplay of Link so I assumed he was her sidekick that you could sometimes switch to or something. I felt really dumb when I learned that wasn't the case lmao
@@giantWarioNintendo already announced them as non- canonical, so technically there's still no zelda game where you play as zelda, until now....

It’s dope to finally get a Zelda focused game. I hope this does well and we get a 3D Zelda focused game.
I kinda hope the big 3d games stay with Link as the protagonist.
@@aidangeverdt320 I think it would be cool if we could switch in some sections in the game. Imagine that in TotK, we got to switch to Zelda in the past. Parts of the game would have to be reworked, of course, but I think it was a missed opportunity to not have playable zelda + new gameplay style.

never played a zelda game (tho i do wanna play breath of the wild. i loved the open worlds of rdr2, death stranding, and the pathless. so i feel like i might really like BotW), but this trailer is just so charming and adorable! and that central mechanic looks VERY interesting. should be fun to play around with

Theory. This is the beginning of Link Awakening. This is what Zelda has been doing while Link was in dreamland.

Okay, first things first, i am, of course, excited for this. Finally getting Zelda as the playable protagonist is great (though i also think that just given her characterization there, it would make so much more sense in the Breath of the Wild-era of the timeline) and that they are using the Link's Awakening Remake art-style for this makes me happy, because that game was all around gorgeous and fun and i enjoyed every second of it (despite already having played through the original quite a few times).
That being said... while the whole Echoes-thing will probably be absolutely amazing for puzzling and getting around in the world, i also kind of wished that Zelda wasn't entirely as 'passive' in combat as it seems here. Meaning it would be nice if they gave her some means of directly attacking as well, other than just summoning monsters or bombs and stones to throw. I wouldn't expect her to be a master of all arms the way Link is, but she has been shown to wield a bow and even a rapier in some games, Ocarina of Time had her double as Sheik, who's basically a Ninja, and Smash Bros gave her an arsenal of spells with offensive and defensive capabilities. Would be nice to get some of that, too.
I can see both sides. As a girl, yeah, I like kickass girl characters and it'd be fun to see Zelda let loose. But this is admittedly more in character with *most* versions of her, and it's nice they put effort into making new systems for her instead of just replacing Link one-for-one.
Also, we see her literally blasting enemies with cannonballs and fireballs, so I think there will be ways Zelda can choose violence. 😂

I can't believe we're getting our first Legend of Zelda game! Looking forward to seeing what this series will do. Maybe one day that Link guy will get his spin-off "Legend of Link!"
I’m honestly glad Zelda isn’t picking up a sword and shield like Link. That would just feel redundant and unoriginal. With Zelda using logic and tact with the use of her Tri-Rod, it will actually feel like we’re playing as Princess Zelda since she’s more of a magic user rather than a sword wielder.

I don't think Nintendo will go and make Zelda Maker, but thankfully we have some indie games that have already been doing that. Super Dungeon Maker, for example. ;)

Oh you're so tough, huh? Strong females/lead females in anything now and days really shows the snowflake side of some people, and you're right, you really don't have to explain, it's one of the basic and easiest things to spot out.
I so wish we had gotten an Oracle of Seasons/Ages remake, those two are among my top favorite Zelda games.

By making Zelda a playable character? A game of which SHE IS THE MAIN CHARACTER of, oh what ever shall we do... Japan soooo DEI that they should rename the games so it doesn't include Zelda in it anymore, back track and make a prince instead of a Princess as the main focus, make females as house maids only, none can ever be strong enough to hold their own, or it's so totally DEI... Yeah you ain't fooling anyone buddy, now go back to your little cave and put that tin foil hat back on in your safe space away from the oh so scary strong females in movies, shows, and games, check twice under your bed too!

Do you even know what that means or do you just see a playable woman and get enraged?
That would have been a Link clone with Zelda's body, with her wielding a sword and shield and having the same mechanics that Link (and her getting the Triforce of Courage). If this would have been made in USA, I'm sure they'd have done that, making Link into a fool and a nobody (when in here, his last action was literally saving Zelda) and then insultong fans who critisize those decisions for hating women.
But they have made a Zelda protagonist the good way (a non woke way), a everyone is happy and hyped by that.

To be honest, even though they never would for obvious reasons, but if they did put those Philips CD-i Zelda "games" (Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon) on the eShop or even less likely, in a collection on a cart, i'd buy them, lol. Heck, throw the CD-i "Hotel Mario" game on the collection while they're at it!
Sure, I'd mostly be buying them just for collecting sake and the novelty of it all, but i would still be unapologetic about picking them up.
Like i said in the beginning, thats never happening. That new indie game and spiritual successor "Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore" is about as close as we'll ever get to having those CD-i Zelda abominations on any Nintendo platform. I've been meaning to pick that one up. ✌️🧝♂️🧝♀️🧚♀️
