"Alex Jones’ lawyers in the Sandy Hook case have asked a judge not to allow evidence of white supremacy or far-right extremism in the courtroom.
Jones, the host of Infowars and a far-right conspiracy theorist, has already lost the defamation lawsuit over his involvement in spreading a conspiracy that painted the parents of children murdered in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting as “crisis actors,” so the jury trial is set to determine how much he will pay in damages.
Lawyers for Jones filed a motion on Tuesday asking the judge to preclude “the introduction of evidence on the topics of white supremacy and right-wing extremism.” The lawyers don’t focus upon the veracity of the ties but more so that “such evidence is not relevant to the issues that will be before the jury and would also be unfairly prejudicial and inflammatory to the defendants.”
Jones and Infowars have lost multiple defamation lawsuits over the last two years, including ones in Connecticut and Texas over defaming Sandy Hook parents and another in Connecticut over Infowars falsely identifying a man as a mass shooter."

@@mark-xx1lt Right!?! And isn't that basically the whole point of this trial - the fact that his prejudiced words influenced (i.e. caused his listeners to adopt those same prejudices, if they hadn't already done so) others to commit acts of crime/harassment? So if the things he says have the ability to influence his followers (obviously in a negative fashion), should they not be allowed to influence jurors as well?

Why is Kyle Rittenhouse a celebrity now? What has this country come to? Has anyone seen “Idiocracy?!”

    • @gspendlove
      @gspendlove Год назад +1

Kyle Rittenhouse is a celebrity because he lived every right-winger's dream --- to be able to kill someone they disagree with and get away with it. Even giving them their premise --- that he was defending himself and was rightfully acquitted --- which I don't agree with --- a lot of people defend themselves with firearms. Not all of them get to appear on the shows of right-wing pundits and get to speak at right-wing conventions. Why Rittenhouse? Because of who he killed. The right-wing rhetoric for years has boiled down to, "Wouldn't it be fun to murder the people we disagree with?" Look at right-wing campaign ads. Guns, guns, guns. Blowing things up. Hunting "RINOs." Putting crosshairs over their opponents' districts on campaign maps. Saying they want their opponent to be "afraid to leave his house." Trump saying his "Second Amendment people" were going to "take care of" Hillary Clinton. Gosar posting an anime that had himself murdering AOC. Saying they wanted their "Second Amendment remedies" against their opponents. These are only a few examples of their violent rhetoric. And they always have plausible deniability. They always say, "I didn't mean it _that_ way." But they don't stop. They keep preaching violence and criticize their political opponents for taking it the wrong way. So when a Rittenhouse comes along and actually gets away with shooting three BLM protesters (a movement they actively loathe because they hate people of color), they don't just celebrate him, they damn near deify him. They've only been talking about doing it for years. He actually got to _do_ it!

It’s absolutely a factor in this case!!!

      Damned right!
Also, republiclans are factually doing everything they can to completely *remove the age of consent* so they can legally r8pe their own children, even their own babies.

Kyle Rittenhouse was a different case, he was a loner out there on his own doing his weird shit. Alex Jones is specifically siccing his audience on people, and who his audience are that he's siccing on them is very relevant.

I'm not a lawyer, but I think there is a difference here about this type of evidence. In most court cases, the question is a matter of guilt and prejudicial stuff can be excluded as to not prejudice the jury.
But this preceding is different. Alex Jones has already been found guilty. He isn't presumed innocent. Therefore, he doesn't have the protections given to a person at the start of a trial.

So based on his own statements, he should have no issues with his ties to extremists being allowed in trial.

How would that be forbidden from being talked about when the extremist on the right are EXACTLY who went after these families? Lmao that'd be like telling someone pressing charges for being shot, that they can't bring up the person who shot them during the trial. 🤦🏽‍♂️

In other words, the lawyers haven't been paying attention to how he's been showing what his character actually is in the previous hearings? He doesn't need to be outed as a racist extremist. He can't go on for 10 minutes without outing his own self as an extremist.

Let's not forget that 11 House Republicans attended a White House meeting with Trump to strategize about overturning the election results on January 6. Six of them later asked for pardons. Does the Federal Rico Act apply here? Here are the 11 House Republicans who were at the December 21, 2020, meeting, according to the White House visitor logs obtained by the January 6 panel. In the final days of Trump's administration. Six of the attendees of the December 21, 2020, meeting - Biggs, Brooks, Gaetz, Gohmert, Greene, and Perry - sought pardons. They all collaborated to commit crimes against the American people and the US Government.
    Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama
    Rep. Brian Babin of Texas
    Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona
    Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida
    Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas
    Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona
    Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland
    Rep. Jody Hice of Georgia
    Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio
    Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania
Rep.-elect Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia
and the many more who are guilty of committing crimes against the American people. Indict them all and sort their criminal azz out later while they sit in prison.
