This is probably the best and unique sitcoms ever produced. The premise is that you follow the same characters and their ancestors/descendants at different historical times. Each series is set in a different period of British history, beginning in 1485 and ending in 1917. The first series was called The Black Adder and was set in the fictional reign of "Richard IV". The second series, Blackadder II was set during the reign of Elizabeth I. Blackadder the Third was set during the late 18th and early 19th centuries in the reign of George III, and Blackadder Goes Forth was set in 1917 in the trenches of the Great War. YOU HAVE TO WATCH THEM. (series 1 not the best, but series 2 - 4 incredible!) everyone's favourite character is Baldrick.
I did put a comment up. Not as flashy as yours. But to give the idea. But also hidden all the way through it is factual quips about historical events. The characters in essence might be largely fictional but if i remember correct I believe Blackadder is gleamed off the black prince. Prince Edward.
The final episode of this season is considered the Darkest end to a comedy show EVER. Watch it from the start- and recognize the symbolism of Poppies for military deaths: Heart-breaking is an understatement. 'Lest We Forget'.
I'd seen the series on tv but somehow missed the last episode. I got it on DVD and watched it all the way through - and then realised that I couldn't see the screen because I was literally blinded by tears. Such a beautifully poignant ending - it still chokes me every time I watch it. And it all came about entirely by accident.
Blackadder was a laugh out loud comedy/farcical TV series, lads (until the very end part in S4). . . On each of it's 4 seasons, it just ran through different time periods in the history of the UK - Medieval, Elizabethan, Georgian, and lastly the early 1900's as you have seen . Some of the additional Christmas specials they also did were just as comical, too . . . !
I agree with everyone, this is one of the greatest comedy series ever, yet also one of the most biting satirical views on war. The last program is the most utterly heartbreaking ever, and it would be nice for you both to see it
@@SadPeterPan1977. I’ve heard him criticise Britain very often. I’ve never heard him praise it. For example, the British; and in particular the English, did more to create the modern world than any other country. And by a big margin. To listen to Robison the British were horrible on every occasion. Most recently in his documentaries on Forgotten Wars he included the Malayan “Emergency”. He spoke badly (as usual about the wicked British) but I was there as a national serviceman (a conscript) and the Malayan people thought highly of the British. I got there after independence and it was common to hear people say things were better under the British. I didn’t think they really meant it. They were just having a moan the way people do, but if we were as bad as Robinson made out those comments would never be made.
You’ve literally got the cream of crop in a generation of British actors and comedians. Playing characters during the darkest moments in that country’s history. It’s such a brilliant formula well done guys! 🇬🇧🇺🇸
One of the greatest British TV shows of all time. Amazing cast, fantastical satirical dialog, lot's of cynicism, utterly amazing!!!! Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Rik Mayall, Tony Robinson, Miranda Richardson. Watch all series. You'll thank us later. Very British comedy, lots of British quirks and viewpoints.
This was before Mr Bean, but still not the first series with Rowan Atkinson. The first one that I know of is ”Not The Nine O'clock News”, and maybe he did stuff before that too. I'm Swedish and maybe there's stuff that never made it to Swedish television, so I don't know.
This is possibly (only possibly as there are many contenders) the best British TV comedy show ever. There were 4 series each set in a different time in history but containing the same actors. When series 4 started (the one your clip is from), I had just started at York University. The shout went up "Blackadder!" and everyone rushed to the TV lounge. It was impossible to physically fit any more people in than managed to get in. (This was before online, constant repeats, etc - 1989 ). It was just an absolute MUST SEE show, nothing else like it at the time.
There are "time zones" in the Blackadder series, each series being set in one of the following periods - Middle Ages, Elizabethan, Regency and WW1 periods. Brilliant. Can recommend them all
YES!….. you found Blackadder ! 👍😄 My advice is Watch it ALL immediately ….. begin with season two and work your way through gradually…( season one was their first try… it led them to some changes ) which worked magic 🤗 thanks for sharing 🥰
Probably all of your subscribers would love you to react to all the episodes unedited! We want to see you pissing yourselves laughing! Cheers and thanx again fellas!
He had sticks up his nose and underpants on his head in order to try and get sent back from the trenches at the front after hoping to be being classed as mad. Hugh Laurie had a long acclaimed career as a comedic actor in the UK well before hitting the States to do House where many American viewers think he's American. The Blackadder series set in several different time periods in history is a brilliant example of acerbic and sarcastic wit mainly delivered in lines from Rowan Atkinson.
The HORROR of realising you've never seen Blackadder! As other commenters have said don't bother with series 1, but DO watch full episodes of all the following series. They are superb. The writing and the performances are peerless.
@@Areyousayingidontknowmyname I think it was generally weaker than the others, but still very much worth watching. As others have said, maybe don't start with it unless you are already a fan of British comedy.
@@davep5788 I will have to politely disagree as i fell in love with the first one. That is why i watched the whole lot. Over time the second one and third have been my main two. So its all a personal thing. If anything they will likely struggle to get every joke. Because so much of it is rooted in the British past. The general slap stick side of it is still solid in the first one.
You will love Blackadder series 2, 3 and 4. I recommend properly following the series in order, as you will get so much context that half the jokes rely on. Good luck, and enjoy!
While season 4 is by far my favourite and season 1 is a little weak they are all worth watching for different reasons and Miranda Richardson's portrayal of Elizabeth the first is pure comedy gold.
I think it was nearly cancelled after season 1. They changed it a bit from season 2 which kept it going. It's a long time since I've seen the first season but I think Blackadder was the stupid one and Baldrick the more sensible one but they switched it round which was more successful.
@@kimamey it was cancelled it was originally on itv independent television was cancelled and picked up by the bbc with ben elton added. Same thing happened with another sitcom hit men behaving badly. Except it was an actor replaced. Harry Enfield left but the show was a hit afterwards. ( not blackadder level of course)
Blackadder got better and better as it went along. Series 1 was still funny, but it (and Blackadder's character) was very different from what came later.
There was A Christmas Carol special that might be worth watching when it is seasonal to do so. It features bits from all the prior series and serves as a good introduction.
You MUST watch the Blackadder series. (Series 1 wasn’t so good in my opinion but 2-4 knocks brilliant comedy out the park)! The final scene of the final series is incredibly moving and a ‘ TV greatest moment’.
Lads this is a famous comedy show here in UK. There are four seasons. The first was not great but 2nd and 3rd were great and this one the fourth was the best the ending was AMAZING
As others have said seasons 2 to 4 are gold, I don't mind season 1 but the humour won't translate as much to the US. He had the pencils up his nose as he was trying to get sent home from the war. Season 4 does a fantastic job of highlighting the lunacy of the war! Definitely watch them guys, arguably the best British sitcom of all time.
I love all of the series of Blackadder, and conflicted by which is my favourite - the third, or go forth. But if you're going to watch go forth, please, please watch the whole series - it is only 6 episodes long - and record your reactions to the final episode. It is probably one of the most emotionally striking things you will ever watch, which you would never have imagined until you were 5 3/4 episodes in, and then BAM it hits you. A masterpiece of a series, possibly one of the few perfect shows out there.
I did not enjoy the first series, when Blackadder was more a Mr Bean type character, rather than the manipulative and cunning - and thus funnier - one of the other three series.
You have to watch more of this! This clip is from around the middle of the last episode of series 4, this episode is one of the best bits of TV ever made. That said it only works if you watch all 6 episodes in order so you get to know the characters a bit. He has all that stuff in his nose and on his head as he's trying to avoid going over the top by pretending to be mad BTW. Don't bother with series 1 ("The Blackadder") it's a bit rubbish. But series 2, 3 and 4 are some of the best TV we ever made in the UK IMHO. Would happily watch it on a loop.
Blackadder had 4 amazingly funny TV series and host of specials over the years. Each series taking on a different period in history, you will love Blackadder its one of those shows that is always funny no matter how many times you have seen it, series 3 is my favourite. Comedic gold and as you've seen some real talent performing it.
you guy are amazing so in-touch with your subscribers and very genuine i knew you'll get load of views respect guys much love from London .p.s it was me that recommended it 😀
It’s blackadder goes forth and the series is a masterpiece. It’s loaded with the cream of British comedy talent and the performances and writing are immaculate. It takes a subject as serious as the First World War and makes it a superb comedy without ever disrespecting those that fought.
The greatest British comedy show of all time. Every single episode of all 4 seasons and a very emotional ending. A huge part of my teenage years growing up in England. It is very helpful to understand the period history of Britain (and in some cases Europe) for the time period of each season. Legendary show. Please watch and enjoy every single episode. Coming in a close second is...The Vicar of Dibley. Another must watch.

Great reactions, i'm subscribing in wait of a full Blackadder reaction series!
Love your reactions, simply the best. You can watch any series of Blackadder on it's own (except possibly the first), the idea was you are seeing different generations of the same family line through history. Blackadder goes fourth is based in World War 1, and see's him as a sane man trying his best to get out of an insane situation. The last episode is so classic that you really need to watch the whole of series 4 to appreciate it. Other that the last episode in series 4, my favourite is 'The Twenty Miniatures', where he try's to join the new army air force, thinking they only do twenty minutes flying (work) a day, only to find out that is the average life expectancy ...
One of the best most funny and timeless comedy programmes ever, educational too! You two fannies will luv it, sorry too many drams the night! Luv your work!
It is so funny that your first reaction is: "House and Mr Bean is in this". I remember how shocked to see Hugh Laurie in House as every role he played before this was like this. And similarly most people knew Rowan Atkinson in roles like 'Blackadder', Mr Bean came a lot later. Best sitcom ever though! You should watch more of this. Also, the reason he has sticks in his nose the whole series is about Blackadder (I.e. Mr Bean) trying to escape the trenches and pretending to be mad was one of his ideas.
The sticks up the nose etc were Rowan Atkinson’s character’s attempt to get sent home from the war on the grounds of insanity. It was basically that or dying horribly. Blackadder was a fantastic series. 2 being my favourite, but what an ending as shown in the culmination to series 4.
PLEASE react to the entire 4th series of Blackadder!! 6 episodes, it's all set in the trenches and is absolutely hilarious like this start to finish. All blackadder series are good but 'Blackadder goes Forth' (4th season) is by far the best. Glad you liked the clip!
Blackadder series has a season in each time period from medieval up to WWI, the same families throw up similar characters in each time, often in different roles; Blackadder starts a minor noble, later becomes a servant, then an officer, etc. Characters like Lord Flash-heart turn up unexpectedly, but are often the same as ever. There are actors turning up in minor roles all through history as well. There's a sort of odd undercurrent of people making the same mistakes in many lives as well. Fun. There are a few 'one-offs' set in other times, including one in the far distant future.
Blackadder was trying to get discharged by being mad, hence the pencils up his nose. Blackadder is arguably the greatest British sitcom ever made. 4 series set in four different eras of British history
I'm from England, but live in California now. I remember Blackadder and when House came out over here I had memories of just how silly Hugh Laurie could be!
You guy's have stumbled across one of the all time comedies. You have so many laughs ahead going thru the ages with 'B'ladder' lol. The first series is a little dodgy ,but there after it is pure genious.
Its great to see you do old English Blackadder series, I loved your true reaction when you realised who Hugh Laurie was then you said Mr Bean hahaha, that's awesome, you seem to be pulling the Brits with these reactions, and at the same time, we love seeing you enjoy something we have for years and you just finding it now xx
I'm amazed that there are people here who have given away the ending. Not just saying it's emotional, but describing exactly what happens. You have spoiled it for anyone, such as these reactors, who may not have watched the series.
The guy who didn't become Mr Bean or House is Tony Robinson - he went on to present a very successful archaeological series called Time Team. I don't recall them unearthing any ostriches, but they did do an episode uncovering a World War I flamethrower.
Blackadder is one of the greatest sitcoms Britain has ever produced, but it was made by the BBC and you'll never get reactions on RUclips. But you should watch them all, 100%. If you can find a way for us to enjoy them with you, that's a bonus.
Just an unbelievable series Black Adder - but the end of the very last episode there was a stroke of genius. I laughed throughout and then the end came - unexpected and it caught me off guard. Seeing this clip makes me want to watch it all over again.
Apart from the first series, Blackadder is (in my opinion) one of the best series ever .... it has a brilliant cast and is so funny, but very offbeat. The last episode of the 4th series is outstanding .... along with all the humour, it manages to give a final scene that is incredibly poignant (and actually brought me to tears)
Great reaction guys , loved your enjoyment of it. Blackadder goes forth is the best Blackadder series in my opinion, very clever and funny on so many levels, making g fun of the futility of war. Love to see what you think of it.
Blackadder, only fools & horses, fawlty towers, some mothers do have em, open all hours, porridge, vicar of Dibly, farther Ted the IT crowd, Alan partridge, keeping up appearances, the inbetweeners, Friday night dinner, dad's army, plebs, red dwaf, bottom, the young ones. All these are fantastic classic English comedy shows. You can't really go far wrong with any of them!
There are 4 series, each of six parts. They are set at different points in history, the first series is very different from the rest and hugely underrated. My personal favourite is Series two. Most wokesters like series 4 as it starts to get a bit PC but is still very much worth watching ! Some seriously great talent on show ! Can't recommend enough !
@@jgmediting7770 Of course war is bad, anyone who thinks otherwise is a fu#@king idiot ! First up, the implication that all generals were fools, was not the case, for example Field Marshall Haig was extremely well liked by his troops, just look at how many made the effort to turn up to his funeral some time later, my Grandfather included. They certainly wouldn't of done that if they thought he was simply a butcher of men who wasted their lives as portrayed. The Somme was an appalling battle with a tremendous lose of life but historians mostly agree that it did shorten the war and was the beginning of the end.

Forget series one. If they watch they, they won’t watch the rest.
The final episode of this season is considered the Darkest end to a comedy show EVER.
Watch it from the start- and recognize the symbolism of Poppies for military deaths:
Heart-breaking is an understatement.
💯
Blackadder was a laugh out loud comedy/farcical TV series, lads (until the very end part in S4). . . On each of it's 4 seasons, it just ran through different time periods in the history of the UK - Medieval, Elizabethan, Georgian, and lastly the early 1900's as you have seen . Some of the additional Christmas specials they also did were just as comical, too . . . !
I agree with everyone, this is one of the greatest comedy series ever, yet also one of the most biting satirical views on war. The last program is the most utterly heartbreaking ever, and it would be nice for you both to see it
tony robinson is a comedian and a historian/ archeologist and hes really good
Couldn’t disagree more. He a lefty-loon and very anti-British.
@@oldman1734 You don't get to declare what is and isn't British just because he doesn't share your political views.
@@oldman1734 rather a left loon than a right wing bigot.
Sir Tony Robinson to you.
When I was a kid, my parents bought me a whole dvd with all the Blackadder episodes. Still have it to this day, 15+yrs later. Great show
Greatest British show of all time
this and the young ones
one of, for sure!
I'd say Only Fools And Horses is the greatest, then Blackadder, then Allo Allo
Yes Minister & Yes Prime Minister too!
@@waynesudama111 I'd say rising damp till death us do part and ever decreasing circles
You’re so lucky to be watching blackadder for the first time!
RIP Rik Mayall
@@freyml Lord Flasheart is possibly my favourite character in anything ever.
@@Emilyismysunshine yup, WOOF!! 🤣🤣🤣
Lord Falsh Heart coming thru the roof and Edmund and Bobs wedding,Rik Myall priceless 😂
Blackadder is one of the greatest shows ever written Rowan Atkinson is just brilliant as the title character.
Wibble
An old trick we used in the Sudan.
They are pencils not sticks. Very important difference.
Seriously, who would notice another madman around here?
Guys you have to watch the last episode which is so sad and thought provoking for a comedy series.
The HORROR of realising you've never seen Blackadder! As other commenters have said don't bother with series 1, but DO watch full episodes of all the following series. They are superb. The writing and the performances are peerless.
season 1 is equally good, I don't know what the hell people have in mind to say it isn't 🤦
@@JulioLeonFandinho I know right. No idea what their issue is with it. The rest of the shows wouldn't have been a thing if the first was shit.
All I can say is "he rides a horse rather less well than another horse would"
You will love Blackadder series 2, 3 and 4.
@@kimamey Ben Elton came on board to write with Richard Curtis for series 2. The rest is history.
@@jgmediting7770 Yes I'd forgotten about that. Thanks for the reminder.
Series* we don’t do seasons on tv shows in britain ;)
Loved watching you enjoy watching this so much. Total classic! Though the end of this episode made me cry.
Watch the entire series chaps. Series 3 and 4 were my favourites. The last minute of series 4 being particularly moving.
Blackadder got better and better as it went along. Series 1 was still funny, but it (and Blackadder's character) was very different from what came later.
Possibly, just possibly, the greatest TV show we've ever produced. Watch from start to finish guys. I still cry at the end of the final episode.
There was A Christmas Carol special that might be worth watching when it is seasonal to do so. It features bits from all the prior series and serves as a good introduction.
It's fucking great!
Robbie Coltraine is a legend
Perfect way to introduce it!
Season 1 of Blackadder is the equivalent of season 4 of airwolf - it doesn't get mentioned
@@SwampthingDUK I personally don't mind it especially with Brian blessed and Peter Cook in there. But it's not good as the other 3 series
Watch the last episode.. brings tears.. first 5 were best comedy in brit history
Your reactions make it all worthwhile. Its an endorsement of the sheer genius of Black Adder.
Truly a brilliant show! Loved it all. You have a huge treat in store! Enjoy guys. We have utter comic geniuses in the UK.
"who would notice another mad man around here?"
Wibble!
You poor guys. Such a poverty of intelligent and funny, sophisticated humour in your country
Blackadder had 4 amazingly funny TV series and host of specials over the years. Each series taking on a different period in history, you will love Blackadder its one of those shows that is always funny no matter how many times you have seen it, series 3 is my favourite. Comedic gold and as you've seen some real talent performing it.
you guy are amazing so in-touch with your subscribers and very genuine i knew you'll get load of views respect guys much love from London .p.s it was me that recommended it 😀
4 series of brilliance...... A journey through history with Blackadder
You need to watch the whole show in order, brilliant.
It’s blackadder goes forth and the series is a masterpiece. It’s loaded with the cream of British comedy talent and the performances and writing are immaculate. It takes a subject as serious as the First World War and makes it a superb comedy without ever disrespecting those that fought.
The last episode of this is one of the greatest endings of all time. It left you stunned. If it is on YT it is a must watch.
You need to watch the entire series of black adder goes forth purely for the brilliant and touching ending.
Check out Little Britain - the "bitty" sketch and Vicki Pollard are brilliant
Father Ted is still needing a reaction boys. Try the holiday episode.
Great shout! That or the "lost in the department store" episode
Also the 'Speed' parody.
This explanation is bizarrely accurate.
Mr Bean) trying to escape the trenches and pretending to be mad was one of his ideas.
and not the nine o'clock news.
This is one of the best sitcoms ever. Fact . Can’t wait to see what you make of it
The sticks up the nose etc were Rowan Atkinson’s character’s attempt to get sent home from the war on the grounds of insanity. It was basically that or dying horribly.
Blackadder was a fantastic series. 2 being my favourite, but what an ending as shown in the culmination to series 4.
Blackadder 1 to 4 is one of the greatest collections of British comedy shows ever. You’ve got a lot to look forward to.
Black Adder Goes Forth - 'Painting in no mans land' is the funniest scene for me. Love your reactions guys, keep it up.
Blackadder Goes 4th is one of the best things I've seen. Got it on VHS still ffs! Watch the entire season, you won't be dissapointed 😀
I'm from England, but live in California now. I remember Blackadder and when House came out over here I had memories of just how silly Hugh Laurie could be!
The BBC at its best!!
The last scene of the whole series is the best - a real tear jerker but so poignant
Love you guys to watch the two ronnies sketch of four candles
Fun fact: Blackadder was Burt Reynold's favourite sitcom. 2nd fun fact: Blackadder is effing brilliant.
A bit of trivia a Blackader with just the one D was a officer in the English army under the Duke of Marlborough
So glad you lots have clocked this. Especially as this is old and you associate with house and Mr bean. Love from London (the home of comedy 😉)
I often try to drop in Blackadder quotes into conversation with new people, if I get a quote back, we're going to get on just fine!
You guy's have stumbled across one of the all time comedies. You have so many laughs ahead going thru the ages with 'B'ladder' lol. The first series is a little dodgy ,but there after it is pure genious.
It’s been said a few times that the entire cast actually became emotional in the very end scene in this series.
Pure gold guys, I have watched this so many times, and it still makes me laugh.
The whole series is definitely worth watching. And the ending is one of the best ending of any show there has been.
The guy who didn't become Mr Bean or House is Tony Robinson - he went on to present a very successful archaeological series called Time Team. I don't recall them unearthing any ostriches, but they did do an episode uncovering a World War I flamethrower.
He is in the Tomb of the Unknown Ostrich.
"Black Adder Goes Forth," a cult classic, it's well worth watching the entire series. 👍
Blackadder is a series of comedy's going through time periods
Brilliant UK comedy from a great comic cast.
How the hell does the fourth series get pc? Ffs.
And why would that be a bad thing either way, anyway.
War is bad? How woke.
@@ianelley so what’s woke about what you just said? It’s a comedy. Of course the generals are going to be stupid and an antagonist of the main character. It’s called conflict and it helps creates the comedy.
And the idea all the troops loved him in reality, is clearly nonsense. Is your idea of woke anything that challenges propaganda?
@@jgmediting7770 " So whats woke about what you just said ", I don't understand what you are saying. And yes, the General is the main antagonist, no problem there, and at what point did I say all soldiers loved him ( Haig that is)? All I said was there was a very large turn out at his funeral which would not of happened if they believed he was a "butcher" as implied. The problem is this is being shown in schools as if it is the gospel truth of what happened, which is clearly nonsense !
@@ianelley you don’t understand? Your whole point was it got too pc. What’s too PC about anything you said?
The idea there wouldn’t have been a good turnout at his funeral either way is ridiculous.
Dude... youve found gold, arguably this is one of the best british tv shows made.
Bkackadder is pretending he is mad to be sent home, this was the technique in Sudanese wars.....start with season 2, and work your way up. It is soooooo worth the effort! Season 1 is okay but not magic!
So true... you can truly skip season 1
The guy playing the clueless Baldrick (constantly talking about the ostrich) is Tony Robinson, who was the main host on famous archaeological tv series "Time Team" (countless full episodes on RUclips)
I really loved him on Time Team, but it was kinda weird having the two series air at the same time, so you could go straight from watching him fool around talking about ostriches, to him discussing strategies for archeological trenches and geophysical surveys, digging for traces of lost civilizations.
