You two should check out the whole show. They only made 3 seasons of Father Ted. My friends and I were obsessed with it in the mid ‘90’s. I’m from Belfast Ireland myself and it’s still one of the best comedy programs ever made - Irish humor at its finest.
poppi hill I think you’ll find it has a lot to do with British sitcom. If you Google about you while find interviews where Graham Alludes to UK sitcoms.
@@quinn55 Strictly speaking, Father Ted IS a British sitcom since it was made and financed by a British TV Company. Of course it is Irish humour - starring Irish actors and written by an Irishman. But since that writer himself has acknowledged the influence of British sitcoms on Father Ted's creation, then I hardly think you are in a position to gainsay him...
They're only showing you a bit of this episode. Try and watch the full episode of this if you're able, it gets even better, believe it or not. I had tears rolling down my face. Just keep an eye out for the black bit of sticky paper on the window.
Guys, Father Ted isn't just comedy gold....more like pure diamond. It came from nowhere back in the 90's and hit the ground running. It should definitely be on your list of shows-to-watch. Its a heady mix of surrealism, slapstick, farce with barking mad characters (and so many quotable lines) all in a glorious lampoon of the Catholic church. The writing is top-quality & its got a ton of belly laugh gags. It really is a true one-of-a-kind classic and well worth your time. The stand-out episode (they're all very good so its difficult to pin one down) for me is where they go for a somewhat disastrous holiday in a caravan. It contains what is arguably, the series funniest joke.
Excellent sketch from an absolutely legendary show 👍 I think it's made funnier when you get the context of where the show is set, the fictional Craggy Island is a borderline deserted, rural island which Ted was sent to as a punishment, its practically barren so the idea of there being outsiders at all, much less those of other races, is funny in itself but Dougals line that "they're living in that Chinatown area" is underappreciated. Father Ted is an amazing show though, it was written by Irish writers who took a lot of Irish stereotypes the British hold and sold them back to us in a comedy show. Very well written and completely insane.
It is absolutely required to laugh at awkwardly funny situations in British comedy. It's the US that has to give itself permission to laugh at itself. This is a brilliant series laughing at pretty much everything including the Catholic Church, so please find it and watch whole episodes if you can find them for yourselves
@@danielgardecki1046 So far example, I'm Irish & can't get finance for a sit-com based solely on the Irish way of life, get an investment from a british financier, then it's not Irish anymore? Loadabollocks.
Father Ted made by Channel four in the UK. The outdoor filming was done in the "wesht" of Ireland, and the studio work was done in the UK. Dermot Morgan (Father Ted) died of a heart attack in 1998. Strangly this is still repeatedly shown on Irish TV although they turned down the option of making it originally. A lot of Irish comedians got small rolls in the show including a very annoying, extremely happy priest played by Graham Norton.
RTE didn't get the option to make it. Dermot Morgan and the production team reckoned they wouldn't make it without interference and he was probably right. He spoke about their reasoning in a Hot Press interview in 1994.
I honestly find it quite funny that so many people think this skit is anti-PC or anti-woke or whatever you want to call it. It clearly shows racism as wrong and stupid and Ted as a hypocrite for being racist and then trying to argue that he’s not a racist. It’s a funny skit and arguably a progressive one as well.
This was possibly the best comedy in the 90’s, you need to watch the clip of the priests lost in the biggest Lingerie Dept in Ireland! 👙🇨🇮! Also when they did a spoof of the movie “ Speed”, while using a UK milk float with a top speed of 4 mph! UK electric milk floats are frequently overtaken by old age joggers! If it goes above 4MPH it arms the bomb, if it goes below 4mpg it detonated the bomb. Also any compilation of Farther Jack, or Mrs Doyle the Housekeeper! You may need a change of underwear after watching these clips, I think they give a fair representation of the “ Modern Catholic Church”?!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If you're going to do Father Ted, you must do the priests in the lingerie section of the department store. I grew up on a small island off of the mainland UK and it used to be just like that, gossip used to go round so fast it was unreal, spies around every corner so it was hard to misbehave lol.
The woman mentions Greeks "inventing gayness", it reminds me of a joke. Greek: "we invented democracy" Roman: "we invented the republic" Greek: "but we invented sex" Roman: "true, but we had it with women"
I get it's the joke, but historically, Romans saw having sex with exclusivly women as weird. The senate once openly mocked an emperor because all his lovers were female.
@@SSD_Penumbra No it wasn't weird actually, the myth of romans and greeks being highly favourable of gayness is ridiculous. The reality is they tolerated it and not much more, Julius Caesar was actually openly mocked by the senate for rumours of sleeping with a man.

This show is iconic here in Ireland. You should watch the clip where they all get lost in the lingerie section of a store. So good. The show still gets shown on TV here in Ireland and UK where it was made, because at the time the Irish broadcaster RTE wouldn't touch it since it involved making fun of the church. So it was made by Channel 4 in the UK. They still broadcast the reruns every night basically.

It's one of, if not the most loved comedies in the UK, and I guarantee you will rate it as one of the funniest things you'll ever see.
Father Ted ran from 95 to 98. As the biggest fan of this show, thank you for watching this clip. I knew you'd enjoy it! Mrs Doyle (their housekeeper) swearing is a brilliant clip to add to the pile of things to watch.
Mrs Doyle learning football etiquette cracks me up!
@@AdeleD79 come on... my son 😂
They were a bit obsessed with the old... S-E-X. God I'm glad I never think of that type of thing Father. That whole sexual world. God, when you think of it it's a dirty, filthy thing, isn't it Father? Can you imagine Father? Can you imagine Father, looking up at your husband, and him standing over you with his lad in his hand, wanting you to degrade yourself? God almighty can you imagine that Father? Can you picture it there Father? Oh get a good mental picture of it. Can you see him there? Ready to do the business?
Fucking hated Mrs Doyle
The piece of black tape on the window 😂😂😂😂😂
now you have gone and done it, you have fallen into a father ted hole, this series is a must watch!
Escape from the lingerie department is one of my favourite Father Ted clips. Well worth a watch.
Yes! Mine too!
My absolute favourite is the caravan holiday where Ted is trying to explain perspective to Dougal using a model cow. No this is small - those are far away, genius.
i forgot all about this haha
@@iceniqueen602 Oh I love that one. And the one where the milk float is boobytrapped. I forgot about Father Ted, it's like discovering a lost favourite toy when you're clearing the attic out.
Superb 🖒🖒
I still watch this show from start to finish at least once a year and laugh every time. One of the best comedies of all time. Episodes are only abut 20 minutes long and there are only about 20 in total. You should 100% watch from start to finish, you cant watch clips.
Me to love father ted ,love thy neighbour on the buses curry and chips chubby brown bernard manning fuck the woakes and new world order i aint changing for no fucker
It's repeated every Wednesday here in Ireland on rte, I know most episodes now very batum.
This whole episode is soo good. At 1:50, you can see the perfectly square piece of dirt on the window. That wont come to mean anything at all...
No, no. Not at all...lol 😉🤣
I didn't realise that Ivory Coast is allied with Palestine?
@@geordiewishart1683 Well they are a member of the OIC after all. Dont know what that has to do with either the video, or the conversation at hand, but I guess thats why people say dont interact with imbeciles.
It’s one of the funniest scenes
Yes he puts one arm up to acknowledge someone walking by, the dirt on the window looks like he has a little moustache and the person thinks he's impersonating Hitler!
Watching these two lads laughing their asses off at Father Ted, as we stand in history, makes me happy. Its an all time clip mind.
Yes, more Father Ted. Go on, go on, go on, go on. Lost on the lingerie department is a classic.
Yes, probably the best episode of Father Ted ever
Definitely! The Vietnam war reference was the icing on the cake 😂
"It's Ireland's biggest lingerie department, I understand."
That and the Eurovision one are my favourite episodes
And a young Graham Norton dates the episode well.
This whole episode is hilarious, as they all are, but this happens to be one of my favourite episodes. You may have missed the perfectly rectangular piece of dirt on the window left by Mrs Doyle. That comes into play later in the episode in a fantastic way !
Was a extremely brilliant funny show, with the perfect cast 👍
Father ted was filmed mainly in Ireland, they made 3 series, the show was 1st broadcast in April 21st 1995
No I forbid this, you need to watch them in order. It is without doubt the finest sitcom made.
Edit; Honestly clips will not do it justice, you really do need to watch the full episodes, it was one of the funniest things to come out of Ireland/uk in the 90's.
In the 90s? In its bloody history, mate!
I will walk the streets in protest if they restrict it to clips. If you're only going to do full eps of any show make it this one!
Absolutely agree in every way.
You two should check out the whole show. They only made 3 seasons of Father Ted. My friends and I were obsessed with it in the mid ‘90’s. I’m from Belfast Ireland myself and it’s still one of the best comedy programs ever made - Irish humor at its finest.
Irish humour done in the British sitcom tradition. Well worth watching.
It was a great collaboration
@@dougoneill7266 It had to be done by a British TV channel - it would never have been made in Ireland at that time...very different today of course...
Nothing to do with British sitcom..it is irish humour pure and simple..irish sitcom
poppi hill
I think you’ll find it has a lot to do with British sitcom.
Fr Ted never gets old... Makes me laugh everytime I watch it!!! Love from Dublin-ireland 🇮🇪💚
They're only showing you a bit of this episode. Try and watch the full episode of this if you're able, it gets even better, believe it or not. I had tears rolling down my face. Just keep an eye out for the black bit of sticky paper on the window.
I was looking forward to that bit as well! I wasn't sure if that was the same episode... soo long ago! 🤣
The "perfectly square bit of dirt" on the window is possibly the greatest sight gag ever written.
@@paullatham8486 the german bit lololololol
The German bit is definitely the best
This is one of the best Father Ted episodes. It gets a lot worse or funnier pariculaly with Father Jack at the end.
Father Ted is amazing, you need to watch it x
Ah yes, the episode titled "Hell"
Just watch the whole episode guys, it builds to a spectacular final scene… in fact just watch all of father Ted
The best line ever in this series ...was the one when they in caravan...looking at cows....far away doogle close up🤣🤣always amuses me
What about the hairy baby maker?
Don’t be apologetic about laughing, we can almost feel your sigh of relief that you are allowed to laugh! Keep doing it 😁
That episode gets even better and slightly darker in a hilarious sort of way
Excellent sketch from an absolutely legendary show 👍
I think it's made funnier when you get the context of where the show is set, the fictional Craggy Island is a borderline deserted, rural island which Ted was sent to as a punishment, its practically barren so the idea of there being outsiders at all, much less those of other races, is funny in itself but Dougals line that "they're living in that Chinatown area" is underappreciated.
Father Ted is an amazing show though, it was written by Irish writers who took a lot of Irish stereotypes the British hold and sold them back to us in a comedy show. Very well written and completely insane.
Check out John and Mary who run the local store on Craggy Island, they certainly have a tempestuous relationship!
It is absolutely required to laugh at awkwardly funny situations in British comedy. It's the US that has to give itself permission to laugh at itself. This is a brilliant series laughing at pretty much everything including the Catholic Church, so please find it and watch whole episodes if you can find them for yourselves
This is Ireland. It's not british.
@@aindriujenkinson11 yes but it's made for the UK and rte
Irish humour from Irish writer with Irish actors.
It's an Irish show produced by a British company. Pathetic how brits always try to claim this.
The funeral that Father Dougal officiated at? Incredibly short and funny.
"Have a cup of tea .. aawh go on , go on "
If you're going to do Father Ted, you must do the priests in the lingerie section of the department store. I grew up on a small island off of the mainland UK and it used to be just like that, gossip used to go round so fast it was unreal, spies around every corner so it was hard to misbehave lol.
The woman mentions Greeks "inventing gayness", it reminds me of a joke.
Greek: "we invented democracy"
Roman: "we invented the republic"
Greek: "but we invented sex"
Roman: "true, but we had it with women"
Touche! Damn sharp barb. lol
The Romans evidently didn't know what they were missing...
Clearly Emperor Nero didn't get that memo! ^oo^
You two have some wholesome energy as friends, I love it, like I’m watching tv with friends if I had any 😂
You *really* need to watch complete episodes of this, as lots of others have said.
My absolute favourite TV show of all time. Three seasons, every episode is hilarious. Never mind the clips, watch it from the start. Fr Jack asking for “more water”. Brilliant.
DON'T TELL ME I'M STILL ON THAT FECKING ISLAND?!
"Who are you? What's in there? Are those my feet?"
Right up there with all the great comedy shows. In my top 4. Thank you Ireland.
I met Dermot Morgan many times as he shopped in the store I worked in.... Lovely humble man!!!
The first time I ever seen this I was in stitches rolling about the floor.. good for you father.. good for you!! Hahaha 😂❤️🏴
A OFTEN MISSED LARF, IS WHEN TED, WHILE WEARINGA LAMPSHADE, SAYS TO DOUGAL ''LIGHTEN-UP'' .
Such a great sitcom, if you do watch full episodes please do them in order! Love your reactions 👍☺
You really should do this series, it’s sooo good and there is so much more to this episode…
Father Ted was the best series ever!! Irish at its best. So funny
Father Ted is still one of my favorite ever TV shows. It genuinely pokes fun at Irish culture, the Church. It's amazing.
Good ol' Irish humour. There's another clip from this same episode, called "Accidental Fascist" where Father Ted accidentally resembles a famous Austrian gentleman from the 1940s. Definitely worth a look
You guys need to add this show to your watch list
I needed a laugh this morning and you two howling gave me that laugh. Well worth watching more Father Ted, possibly proper episodes if possible. The clips are good but there's so much more in an episode. thanks guys
This series is a very accurate portrayal of what happens to men's brains when they are forced to be celibate. Father Jack is the prime example.
It's said that most of rural Ireland didn't realise until around the 3rd series that father ted wasn't a documentary
"Kicking Bishop Brennan Up The Arse" is my all time favourite sitcom episode. You have to watch the full episode though.
Mine aa well!
You guys need the full episode. The full context is so important with this kinda comedy
The full episode is hilarious and well worth checking out, especially with the black mark on the window and father jack at the end.
'Small and far away" is my go to clip if ever I'm feeling down!
Oh boys I NEEEED a Father Ted watch through! Honestly one of the best comedies ever imo
im in Ireland and this was made in the mid 1990's it a satirical show about the catholic church with father ted on a non excistent island called craggy island its hillarious.. its get to see americans watching this and laughing so hard. it was made in england though have a great day!
Amazing stuff! Can literally watch these over and over again!
Lads ye missed the best part, there's a bit later on when there's a spot on the window and he looks like Hilter ha! very funny. GLEN from Ireland
Love rewatching comedy clips with you guys I think I laugh more than when I watched for the first time, I do recommend that you watch further on in this episode when father Ted has invited the Chinese family to his house and they are approaching to the house up the path, hilarious.😆
You've opened Pandora's Box. Father Ted is one of the best sitcom's ever !!!! hold on to your hats.
A fantastic comedy series, with an amazing cast of actors. Who needs PC in comedy?
You need to see the whole episode,,, it is brilliant.
Fr. Ted is a masterpiece of satire. Takes the piss out of the attitudes of & to the catholic church, and Irish stereotypes. There were three series' & they're an absolute treat, 25 plus years later.
Greetings from Ireland. We're very proud of Father Ted. This has to be the best episode of all, you should watch it in full, it get's into Nazi stuff as well.
You have to watch the full episode, this is like listening to a joke without a punchline. Father Ted is a classic sitcom, just watch for your own entertainment, no reaction needed.
I have had the DVD box set of Father Ted for years, and before that I had it on VHS. It's mid 1990s vintage and IMHO one of the funniest shows EVER.
The great thing about Father Ted is you NEVER get bored with watching it, I've lost count how many times I've watched it over the decades.
I think the episode ''Kicking Bishop Brennan Up The Arse'' is one of my all-time favourite episodes.
You’ve got to see this whole episode! It’s an Irish comedy from the mid-late 90s and lasted 3 series. There are so many great scenes, I would try: “the wrong department”, “the accidental fascist” (from this same episode), and “Kicking Bishop Brennan up the arse”.
isnt that an eclesiactical matter!
Every episode of this show is amazing. You won't be disappointed.
You’ve got to watch more of that episode ... it gets far, far better!
Always gets voted as one of the best comedies ever. It's fecking brilliant 🤣
Father Ted is a sitcom created by Irish writers Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews and produced by British production company Hat Trick Productions for Channel 4. 1995 and ran for three series.
You guys are awesome.!! 👍🏼👍🏼. Love watching your reactions. This was broadcasted quite some time ago in the UK and was a huge hit. Still makes me laugh today.
Always be yourselves as you are. If it’s funny, it’s funny….. end of. 😁😁.
You guys have GOT to watch a lot more Father Ted. It pokes fun at everything. You will both end up crying laughing, believe me!
You have to see the part when he and a load of other priests accidently find themselves in the lingerie section of a department store - it is hilarious!!
Father Ted is just an insanely hilarious show! Stands out with the other great comedies from Britain, Ireland, and American shows of the past century. It goes to show when you don’t hold any comedic bars-which essentially comedy is taking everything good and bad from the world and flipping it on its head-we all just laugh so hard!!
Has to be one of the funniest tv shows ever made. Excellent.
This show is an institution here in Ireland and has become part of our culture. Would recommend watching the entire thing.
Omg you finally found Father Ted. Absolutely amazing show. So funny every time. You can actually visit the house in Ireland and have tea and cake and there is also the annual TedFest 🙂
The funniest thing about that is that father Ted lives miles away from anywhere and the fact there was Chinese people there at the time was hilarious, they wouldn’t get away with that humour these days over here , but back then it was funny and people saw it as funny too , you should check out some of the 1970’s sitcoms the UK produced, “ Love thy neighbour “ and “ mind your language “ are two that spring to mind , plus a character called Alf Garnett, we all thought they were hilarious at the time 👍👍
i've loved Father Ted from the first time it was aired in Ireland - our funniest show EVER.
Respect & Peace
I loved watching father Ted when I lived in the UK when I was in the Air Force stationed there. I have the whole series on DVD and enjoy watching them. RUclips has uploads on them too.
I don't think anything beats British and Irish comedy.
Give Father Ted a go!… go on, go on, go on, go on! 😜
Edit: I can confirm Ireland worry itself like the US on all the political correctness! This episode will never not be funny!
It is about 25 years old. The fun is mainly on the church and the Irish themselves. I think this is the only racism scene. Elderly football episode and the Eurosong are my favourites. Ages well.
