Loving all of the bright colors in your episode, perfect for Summer! :) As a high school math teacher (and knitter) I love it when you talk about math, and I'm looking forward to reading your book when it comes out! The yarn you have chosen for your Alpine Bloom is stunning!! Can't wait to see how that one comes together.

Loved your cult story. I've watched it but now I need to watch again to see the huts! The writing retreat sounds like it was so fun and productive. Congrats on getting your book finished. I'm knitting Shane (my husband) something for the first time (a cabled jumper) so that's my winter knitting taken care of. That Alpine Bloom is going to be gorgeous, love the colours together. xx

I love knitting the entire sock with double points! I also dislike moving the cable for the magic loop method. I'm probably overly paranoid about stretching the stitches, haha!

Beautiful tank tops for you and your daughter! I just had a fun thought...what if those library cards were like a WIP card that went with each project bag you could see which projects had lived in which bags over time?? How fun would that be??? Matilda's rainbow sprinkle sparkly Emotional Support Chicken is going to be EPIC and yes, perfect timing and much less maintenance than real chickens lol. For me, summer knitting plans generally involve socks because they're so portable and not hot to knit on. I have a couple of garments going currently - one of them I would really like to have the yoke done before school's out because I can't concentrate on a lace compound raglan shaping situation with any distractions. The body is just stockinette so that will be nice to be on once school's out (I'm using a fingering weight alpaca/cotton blend for that!). I would also love to knit another mini mock neck tank or two and that just takes more concentration in the top section and then the body is just round and round stockinette so that will be nice lake beach knitting!!

Stephanie, you are just SO CLEVER about the library cards of WIPs!!! I love that idea so much.
MJ's school is out next week... and it's my first summer without help. So, I am going to learn what I can knit while Kyle is at work and MJ is hanging with me ;) I'm super excited for the memories and time. But, there will likely be lots of stockinette in my future.
You definitely have inspired me to knit a mini mock neck (and sew... and all the things). I need to check if I can knit one with one skein or I will need two skein. I am thinking I might need to dip into a 2nd and that will influence my color choice.
Side note: it just tickles me that you watch my podcast because I just LOVE yours SO much.

Friend I loved everything about this episode! Knitting, books, and cults - oh my! 😂😂 MJ’s tank is amazing, the little scarf is amazing, and girl I gasped out loud when you held up that spincycle yarn 😍😍 Also you reminded me that once I was in my new knitting room I was going to cast on an emotional support chicken to celebrate so that’s exactly what I did today while watching you!! 🎉🎉

the cult right?! It was so creepy to watch the show right before I went out there WITH NO CELL SERVICE at all. That spin cycle is so good and I really need an alpine bloom in my life. I love that you are celebrating with an emotional support chicken!!

Hello from Swansea, Illinois. That’s exactly how I knit my socks. I have been knitting lots of socks again this year, they are easy to take with you, in a small bag. Large projects stay at home because it’s just too much to carry around.

Isn't it exciting when you can reintroduce yourself to your own yarn again! I just used yarn that I had purchased 10 years ago. I made a 'Frankenstein' sweater. I took elements I loved from 4 sweaters I made in the past and made my sweater out of it. The sleeves don't match as I tried different decreases with them but as a layperson you wouldn't notice but a fellow knitter would I think, don't care I wear it all the time. I learned to knit socks toe up, my favourite heel was the afterthought or fleegle, I just started cuff down and heel flap and gusset and it was good for my husband as he likes them better in his work boots. I just tested the Bocciolo Socks by Marie Eve of Inherskein. I learned so much from the construction of those socks. The toe and heel were incredible, I am going to remake them with no 'buds' as they are the best fitting socks I have ever made. My 'unpopular' knitting thing is I never swatch. I don't mind ripping back so I start a project and then check, I also don't change my needle size for colourwork. I am fortunate I seem to be able to match gauge. I am an english knitter and I do better at managing my tension using that style, when I knit continental I knit too tight.
I feel the same way about the Emily Henry books. I just started 'People you meet on vacation' and it isn't bad just not great. Have you ever read Kristen Hannah? The Nightengale was in my opinion incredible.
I really enjoy your podcasts, if you put out a test for that scarf I would love to do that for you as I find myself really into small scarfs lately. Check out www.yarntwisters.ca This is my local yarn store here in Calgary Alberta. They have free patterns on that site and the latest one 'giddy up' is a lovely small bandana style. I knit it in 10 hours and it was lovely.
We are having a yarn festival here in August 16th to 18th. It is Knit City Canada - Calgary. This will be the first year and there will be an incredible line up. There is a designer called Crux fibres who has colours that I think you might like.
Have you ever looked at James Makes Things? He is a UK based dyer, when I saw his yarn I thought of you. His colours are absolutely incredible.
Sorry for being so long winded. Have a lovely summer break.

Oh I love this long comment!
I love the idea of being "re-acquainted" with yarn.
My husband is actually a huge fan of Kristin Hannah books. He has read so many of them and keeps recommending them to me; I should give them a try!
I will check out that little scarf. :) I will also check out James Makes Things. Thanks for the suggestions! I love it! :)

My knitting rebellion is that I have never knitted a gauge swatch. And I have never regretted it. I would rather start a sweater, measure, and start over if necessary than waste time and yarn on a swatch. Spoiler alert: I have never had to start over. :)

I read strictly audio books these days, and blew through Funny Story in just a couple of days. It was so good! Julia Whelan is an amazing narrator. My 15 year old daughter has been reading the Inheritance Games this year for free reading in her English class. She is not the kind of kid who generally enjoys reading, and she has LOVED this series.
When we travel (we road trip a LOT) I keep a rechargeable head lamp (and its charger)in the car for nighttime knitting.
Loved the podcast this week. I have plans to make an Alpine Bloom this summer, too!

Hi from Western Montana, I love 2 at a time magic loop toe up with a shadow wrap heel. Your little girl is adorable in her little top! I used to live in Portland. I worked as a nurse at Emmanuel Hospital. I enjoy your episodes, your Barbie sweater is so good!

My rebellion has generally been not searching, but I do swatch more often now and still find my gauge changes while knitting so I still screw up. I made my Emotional Support Chicken using the designer’s you tube tutorial-very helpful. I love how passionate kindergarten kids are about what they want- thankfully, something new will become her passion soon, so the ESC will be a great cuddly stuffie (which it definitely is. I just finished the Ankers summer tee in Berroco Sesame (so fun) and now I am going to make the Paloma Cardigan by Melissa Clulow for me eldest daughter in her favourite yellow gold colour for her 50th birthday. She can cuddle up in it on cold days in her office and know her mama loves her enough to k it for her. The top you made for Mathilda is so cute. I would love to make one for one or more of my granddaughters in summer yarns.

I love hearing about how knitters make socks 😊 I like to do cuff down, magic loop, heel flap and gusset with a French turn (the trapezoid one), and a wedge toe. I also like to change up bits of my formula with each pair of socks I make. I can’t get cuff, heel, & toe with a 20 gram mini so I usually choose two of the three if I am using a contrast color.

there is a saying "do not get livestock if you cannot deal with dead-stock" - kyle is probably right. the setup costs on chickens are quite a lot even if you DIY if you have any predators beyond hawks.

    • @professorpurl
      @professorpurl  5 месяцев назад +1

That's my first time hearing that saying, but I totally agree. Kyle made the point: What's a harder conversation/situation: saying no to chickens now, or... explaining what happened to her chickens?

I make my socks on 9 inch circular needles in tandem. I cast on and do the cuff then the next. I really don’t like dpns so I have extra 9 inch circs and use them as dpns to do the toes.

That tank is interesting. After writing the kid's sizes are you possibly going to do an adult version? I think I might call it Fairy Tale tank. I love the colors. I don't know how your daughter will feel about having a design with her name on it as she gets older. She may absolutely love it because you designed it or she may not like her name being tied to it. I really like that design. Thanks for sharing.
