    So I wanted to comment on the Simagic. They came out with another app and firmware upgrade when they came out with the Alpha. Its a lot better and where you had some of the options at the bottom greyed out they are now available in all games including iRacing and the settings make a huge difference. I do agree with the practice setup to race but that has all since been fixed.

    Congratulations on your amazing review, I watched it with great pleasure. You have cleared my doubts about these two types. VRS on top - great.
    I would like to see a similar comparison sometime like this, but VRS to DD1. In fact, I am now wondering about the choice between the two. In UE Fantec and VRS will be very similar, I do not know if even Fanatec will be cheaper. I wanted to go with v2.5, so I would already have an F1 wheel.
    Can you advise something, maybe there is such a comparison planned?

    • @SmokingSteelGarage
      @SmokingSteelGarage  3 года назад +2

      Glad it was helpful! I would love to compare with a DD2, but high price is putting me off buying, and TBH I have a few friends with them and they have a lot of issues. If I can find one to borrow for a review it will happen. But tbh I'm really happy with the VRS and it has been 100% reliable in the time I have used it.

    great review..im finally able to build my dream rig and everything is sold out..so im tying to really do the research on all the main players..and it's cool to see the telemetry between these two...so that narrows my feild by one...Fanatec def has the eco system but there are so many great choices here in 2022 but everything is sold out till April pretty much..had same issue with building my computer...anyways thanks for the info
    (i think i've got it narrowed to CLS DD or VRS yes thats a huge difference in every aspect but just seems those two get the best marks..so we'll see who gets merch first lol)cheers mate

  • @DavidGarcia-oi5nt
    @DavidGarcia-oi5nt 3 года назад +2

    Ok I liked the review , it was fair but it's hard to compare a wheel with a stepper motor vs one with a servo (one that's twice as strong as well). I think that the better comparison would be the Alpha vs the VRS. But you have given Simagic fair reviews before so I'm not gonna bust ya bawls over it.
    Nice vid regardless and I've subscribed

    • @SmokingSteelGarage

      It wasn't meant as a comparison film, was simply shot as this was my natural upgrade from Simagic to VRS. I wanted to help anyone who was asking the same question, i.e is it worth the extra, what's the biggest difference, is there a good enough performance gain? An Alpha would be a good direct comparison. But currently can't get hold of one without buying! I'm working on some more DD tests though. so hopefully more will arrive in the future.

      @@SmokingSteelGarage yea that's all good mate, I feel ya. 👍 The alpha is 25% more expensive than the VRS as well and their cables don't come with the same kind of shielding, but the important part is that we as a community try to help out the smaller manufacturers to give us more affordable (( better and healthier Sim racing peripherals competition. :)

    Great review and exactly how I felt about my Simagic M10. Had it for 2 months thought it was great at first but after using it for 2 months I started to notice I needed more. I got the Mige Simucube (basically the same as the VRS but uses the simucube board) and I felt I was far more connected with the car that I was initially turning into the corners too early. And like you said the detail of feedback under brakes and controlling a slide is a lot better! Especially in the cup car where you do need to rotate the rear on tight corners.

    • @barrymanon9459
      @barrymanon9459 3 года назад +2

      I also tested the Simagic Alpha as well but It’s still no where near as good as a VRS or Simucube Mige.

      @SmokingSteelGarage  3 года назад

      @@barrymanon9459 great to hear similar experiences. Simagic is great value. but they still have a way to go to get the finer details it needs in terms of feedback. It will be interesting to see how they come along. Also see they are now bringing out pedals. so I wouldn't mind grabbing some of those and putting them up against the V3's and Sprints. And of course VRS are also about to launch their own pedals. So definitely going to grab myself those for a test. So much new shiny stuff coming out in the next few months!!!

    • @barrymanon9459
      @barrymanon9459 3 года назад +1

      @@SmokingSteelGarage yea lots of new stuff coming out. 1 thing about the HE sprints is the software. To me that’s where it wins a lot of its points. Simagic software isn’t up to scratch yet. I don’t know how well they could make software for the pedals.
      VRS will def make some good pedals.

      @SmokingSteelGarage  3 года назад

      @@barrymanon9459 Absolutely. the Sprints imo are in a class of their own at the moment. But can't wait to see what VRS come to the table with. If they are in the same league as the DFP then they will be stunning. My orders in so just have to wait now.

      @@SmokingSteelGarage can’t wait for your review. There are so many well known sim guys who review stuff and I recon they have been paid to say good stuff as I’ve bought many items according to their reviews and it was nothing like what they have said it was to the point I was quite disappointed and had to sell the item.

  • @jonathanchung7209
    @jonathanchung7209 3 года назад +2

    Given that the laptimes were so close and the huge difference in price, you've got quite a challenging comparison. It's comparing two totally different tiers. Eg. Thrustmaster vs fanatec, except the performance of the TM will be much closer to the fanatec. Similarly, I would say that is a good analogy to sum up your thoughts on these two units.
    Simagic really needs to work on their software to dial in the wheel feedback. If they spent the money to dial in the stepper motor, making it easier to use, but also yield better feedback at its core, it would be a no brainer as the best budget DD.

    • @SmokingSteelGarage
      @SmokingSteelGarage  3 года назад +2

      True. But I think if I revisited now having totally dialed into the VRS it would be a much larger gap. I will try and get hold of the Alpha for a review and also their new pedals.

      What's this price difference you speak of? As for far as I know, the VRS is cheaper than the simmagic. Or maybe roughly the same price.
      I live in the US. I purchased the VRS late summer for $900usd. That includes optional hub adapter and mounting brackets. It's $800 without the optional hardware. I was very surprised to hear this gentleman refer to the VRS price as 1500. Crazy..

    • @SmokingSteelGarage
      @SmokingSteelGarage  3 года назад +3

      @@MarxismIStreason Simagic M10 and Wheel all ready to go is $900, VRS DFP Base is $930 then you need to buy the hub, wheel and I also purchased a quick release, so price ended up costing $1500. So for a complete setup the prices are considerably different.

    • @MarxismIStreason
      @MarxismIStreason 3 года назад

      @@SmokingSteelGarage That makes sense. Before I decided on the VRS, I contemplated getting a SM. At the time it seemed as if the prices had been inflated a bit. Due to the WU-FLU hardware shortage of coarse. If i remember correctly they were running about $1000+. At the end of the day, I'm more than happy with my decision. The vrs is a great setup, was a huge leap from my TM tsxw. Question.. you mentioned a VRS software update. Where did you happen upon that? If you don't mind me asking..

    What do you suggest for a rally simulator. Mostly rally games like dirt rally 2, wrc 9 and euro truck sim. I was initially considering Simagic M10 now VRS is in the mix.
    Please review Simagic Alpha

    • @SmokingSteelGarage
      @SmokingSteelGarage  3 года назад +1

      Tricky one. I would say the VRS is going to be better as it will really pick up those high frequencies. But having not done much with it in rally sims I cant say for sure. However your best bet is to jump in the VRS discord they have a DFP channel and I see a few guys in there are using the VRS for rally and drifting, maybe put a post and see what they say. As I said in the review Simagic isn't terrible, its FANTASTIC value. But the VRS certainly has the legs on it in terms of fidelity and ease of use. Yes I'm trying to get hold of the Alpha, and their new Pedals as well as waiting patiently for the VRS pedals that are coming soon.

      I know this is an old post, but I just switched over from a Simagic alpha to a VRS. I regret it. The Alpha was lacking nothing, despite the allegedly slightly slower slew rate. I can't get the steering wheel with the VRS to be as responsive to my inputs as the Alpha was, no matter how much I tweak it. Maybe it's because I'm using it in ACC, whereas the VRS seems to be overwhelmingly oriented towards iRacing.

So I made this film to potentially help people who are in the same position I’m in. Do I buy the m10 now or wait and save more for the vrs. Is the extra money worth spending?
