3 weeks before the 1-year warranty ran out, my remote stopped working. Contacted Roku support and got a replacement. About to throw out the old remote but came across this video and it worked !!! Now I got a spare. Thanks.

OMG, I cannot believe this actually worked! For the past year whenever my remote doesn't work, I just use the Roku app on my phone to control the TV. It's been so strange, because the remote won't work for a week or two, and then suddenly it starts working again. So I just decided today to see if there was a reason the Roku remote disconnects from the TV at random intervals and came across this video. I was so doubtful, but I figured just keep trying it so on the third try, it worked! Thank you so much!

I thought this was a joke, but it worked!!! I took the added step after pressing all the buttons of dragging out my vacuum cleaner and put the hose directly against the face of the remote to pull out any excess or loosened dirt. I then went to the TV and it turned on immediately. Terrific advice!
Did the button pushing routine etc 4 times to no avail--used my Dirt Devil to vacuum battery hold-- and EUREKA! Thanks for the tip!
Adding on to everyone else’s similar comments here, it also worked for me! I had no hopes of it working but I gave it a half hearted try. I looked up and saw the TV was on. Couldn’t believe it! Promptly cancelled my Amazon overnight order for a new remote! Yay for saving money! 🎉

Thanks! My big bro taught me how to "clean dirty switches" as a kid. I forgot it works on most things! Some electronics should never be shaken--going crazy w/the switches to loosen the muck is enough, in those instances.

Oh wow I really can’t believe that actually worked. At first I thought this can’t be right, but I tried it anyway and it really worked.
I bought a replacement remote for TCL Roku TV (our kids lost the original) and it didn’t work AT ALL. We did what this video suggested- taking out the batteries, holding the power button hard for 10 seconds, smashing all the buttons and I was thinking this is ridiculous.... and it TOTALLY worked! I thought it was just mine, but apparently this is a common problem. These TCL remotes are pieces of crap.
TCL is a Chinese company and will almost always will be a poorer quality product compared to Samsung, LG, or Sony.
Yeah same here..it was working fine Monday, didn't use it Tuesday, and Wednesday none of the TCL TV's were responding to it...the IR light works on all buttons but the TVs don't read it..wtf?

About a month ago my remote, about once every 5 or 6 times, I tired to watch TV , would turn on the TV but wouldnt perform any other functions until I took out the batteries and put them back in. Then it would work fine. It seems like during the time between then and about a week ago it was happening more frequently. Now, starting about a week ago it happens every time I try to watch TV. I considered the problem might be the batteries, but Ive had this remote and streaming stick for about 3 months. Wouldnt think the batteries would be dead in 3 months. Any suggestions ?

bought a new roku, I set it up like you did, wireless connection entered wi fi etc paired my remote ....everything worked I unplugged it to move it to the bedroom and now I cant pair it at all the time slot on TV says NO CONNECTION instead of the time ...tried everything and not working . the old roku in family room works fine ,,,,,what do I do?

Edit: It stopped working again, and it looks like for good this time, However if your remote doesn't work download the Roku app on your phone, connect your TV and you can use your phone as a remote which is much better than the regular remote

In case it helps others, I repeated the process three times, it didn’t work, BUT then I rebooted my TV, repeated the process one more time, and it DID work. So if you had no luck, maybe try rebooting the TV as well. Thanks for making this video!

My remote for my 6 series Roku tcl tv has a very small round red led light above the center of the top power button does it supposed to light up when a button is pressed?

I can't believe that worked, I had already took it apart and cleaned it, had one battery that was leaking. These remotes are cheap and flaky, never seen so many battery issues with these, another tcl my gf had died and ate batteries and she bough the voice remote, the reset is what fixed mine, there was some battery corrision on the terminals inside as well, cheap batteries but also this thing drains them more than other remotes, Thanks!

okay so i have the tcl tv but i dont have the remote so i use the app. everytime i open the app it says to wake my device. and when my tv is on it just displays the hdmi that i am on and says no signal and for some reason the censor at the bottom of my tv is blinking white. my tv is connected to two wifis and neither of them seem to be working rn which is strange. i've tried turning my wifi off and on and reconnecting to the remote, i've tried shutting off my tv and even unplugging it, but nothing works. i've tried looking at so many videos but nothing seems to be working. just last night my tv had been fine, and then it randomly started doing this. even turning it off for awhile doesn't help

Who are these people that freaked out because their remote died though? You know that phone that you have to set down to pick of the TV remote? It will also control your TV. Just install the roku app. No doubt the TV remote is easier, but there’s no need to cry about it. The Tv still works.
