I used to watch you, d. Mish, Hiro, Katie Puckrik and the others but over time the influx of coke bros, frag thots, and "box & bottle reviewers" took over. These "influencers" lack expertise. They're there to entertain, look good, show some boob and promote the same tired brands that are showering them with free bottles. You're 100% correct about Lutens. The level of creativity and expertise with SL is unmatched. Especially the pre-2014 formulations. Chergui, Fumerie Turque, Ambre Sultan, Le Myrrhe, ISM, Fille, en Aiguilles. Masterpieces. Most of what I wear these days is either Lutens, the undeniable king of perfume or Slumberhouse, the mad prince whose creativity alone spearheaded an entire new category of perfume (SO many new brands try to copy him!) The hype around frags like Jub XXV, Musc Rav, Duro, MAAI, LDDM, Cuir Beluga & SDV, 1697 by Frapin and those amazing early Parfumerie Generale bottles was rightfully earned. Nowadays hype goes to whatever brand bribes the most RUclipsrs
I've been a subscriber to your channel since 2009. Thank you for addressing this Marc, this has been a peeve of mine for some time now. I've seen this community evolve into what it is today. Reviewers have become "influencers" and to me influencers are nothing more than extensions of a company's marketing dept. Needless to say, I find it hard to trust the opinions of most of the newer fragrance content creators...It's frustrating to be honest, especially when I want an honest non-sponsored opinion about a new release or brand.
Some very valuable advice. I'm not a fan of Roja, PDM & Initio AT ALL, but I have to admit that there are quite a lot of Xerjoff scents that I like, although there are also quite a lot I don't like. Xerjoff are a bit hit or miss. Always worth sampling first.
Once again dropping knowledge like always Robes! Roja is definitely promoting old classic scents into “new” releases and targeting influencers by sending out free full presentations. Lol serge an amazing niche brand! Keep up the good work sir!
Heeley, Frederic Malle, Serge Lutens, Ormonde Jayne, L’Artisan Parfumeur. Not big influencer brands but you can usually find them at nicer shops to sniff and make great stuff!
Are people really letting influencers dictate their purchases? I absolutely love Roja and especially Xerjoff - it's my #1 house. No one told me to... I sample A LOT! Found I love both houses along with Les Indemondables, Rogue, Kerosene, Motif Olfactiv, Savoir Faire. I couldn't give any F's about free bottles... Always sample for yourself. Xerjoff is incredible!
@@robes08Each case/perfume on its merit - only the scent matters, not marketing, not performance, not the presentation and not the longevity. Only the juice. And PdM has a few good ones - Oajan, Herod and imho Godolphin. These are all elegant and office-friendly interpretations of other perfumes, but are stanning by themselves. I can also appreciate Habdan and Pegasus, although I won't buy them. From Initio, only one perfume grew on me - Side Effect (after finishing samples I found myself craving). The rest are less than average. BTW, I've sniffed the entire line of Serge, and couldn't find a perfume that WOWed me (I only buy FBs of scents that WOW me. It has to have the magic factor). I really wanted to love FdB or Chergui, but couldn't bring myself to buy a full bottle.
Serge Luten is a brilliant brand. Classy, stylish, sophisticated, high quality fragrances. I own 3 of their fragrances already and planning on expanding the collection. I own Amber Sultan, Chergui and La Couche du Diable.
It's getting harder and harder to trust the reviews of many reviewers/influencers that are getting floated bottles from perfume houses. Being in the game for nearly 17 years, at this juncture of the journey, I watch a small handful for influencers strictly for entertainment. I know what I like and have been around long enough to know, beauty is in the nose of the beholder. 😉What is a masterpiece for one could be a straight up room freshener for the next. Blind buys can be exciting and fun and trust me, I still indulge myself in such activities. Sampling (especially in the niche space) is typically a smarter and cost effective approach to acquiring your fragrances. Thanks for the vid Marc.
Now I do feel like Roja,PDM, and Xerjoff have some absolute bangers I still believe in sample sample sample. I’ve made way to many blind buy “influencers” based purchases in my day to fall in that trap any longer.
@@robes08 absolutely agree 100% with you. So many “10/10 absolute bangers” that were just basic or good but not worth all the hype that just collect dust on the shelves.

Thank you very much sir for putting it as it is! Insincerity and dishonesty in fragrance recommendations by some well-known influencers on RUclips is especially getting out of hand lately. I would like to see a full video on some affordable Underrated Niche and Designer houses recommendations (especially Niche) that are pure bangers even without marketing and influence of the RUclips reviewers. So these days I try to always trust my NOSE, my INSTINCT/KNOWLEDGE, and my WALLET! Meanwhile, I would like to hear your opinion on PERRIS MONTE CARLO fragrances. I recently saw some of their fragrances in my local store for the equivalence of 25 to 30 dollars. What's your take on this house sir? Thank you so much for the honest advice. 🙏
Couldn't agree more Marc. I'm so happy I woke up to the bullshit before having a collection of PDM and these other brands. I recently got into Sergre Lutens last year. I own 5 so far. They are incredible. Funny how most Sergres on discounters are more affordable than these heavily pushed overhyped niche brands.

I have a few Xerjoffs, but I sampled them first before purchasing. Well, Renaissance I got up top because it was massively discounted and I got a great deal. Same with my bottle of Italica. And I have small 30 ML bottle of Mefisto and Dolce Amalfi. It's best to sample stuff first before running out to get any fragrance, higher-end or not.
