      @ckatlinga Do you have nitrates? If so the tank is cycled.

    • @jamievetter601
      @jamievetter601 4 года назад

      @ckatlinga I'd start by not feeding my fish for a few days. They can handle it. Check ammonia after three days of no feeding. If ammonia is good, then you're feeding too much.

    • @jamievetter601
      @jamievetter601 4 года назад

      @ckatlinga Since you don't have fish then there's no hurry right? Since you have a cycle I'm not sure why you're still adding ammonia. I'd stop. I'm assuming your nitrites are okay right? Put some plants in the tank and they'll eat the ammonia. Maybe some fast growing like wisteria or whatever your LFS has. I like dwarf sag. It grows like weeds in my tanks.

    • @jamievetter601
      @jamievetter601 4 года назад

      @ckatlinga It sucks. I'd add plants and do nothing else. Plants will eat the ammonia before the nitrates. As long as your nitrates stay "orange" you should be okay. If they turn red, do a water change. Otherwise nothing else. No dosing. You have a cycle and something got messed up (most likely the substrate). The water will probably get cloudy for a few days. Let it. That's the bacteria that eats ammonia. Good luck.

      Excellent video as always George, honest and informative.
      I've always been interested in the Fluval Flex 57 litre tank.
      To be honest I'm actually a sucker for Fluval, especially the second generation 19 litre and 10 litre Spec which I'm currently running sporting two beautiful male Betta's.
      For me I always appreciated the fact that the majority of the Fluval tanks are all in one systems, usually have space to hide a heater, are plug and play user friendly and for the best part don't break the bank when purchasing one or two.
      I have a relatively small flat so my two Specs fit perfectly in my living room and look great against the scale of the room and compliment it's furniture, as well as completely setting my off my living room and adding that extra light when I'm chilling at night next to my underwater gardens.
      I'm trying to get the scape on both tanks a lot better so when my local aquarium shop opens back up I'll be seeing what I can do in regards to that.
      I also have an extra gen 2 Fluval Spec 19 litre new in box if your ever in Glasgow and fancy shooting an Aquascaping video 🤣
      Hope your well.
      Take care.

    Just a word of warning about keeping a store of hardscape: I had a beautiful and quite expensive piece of knotted wood that I'd used previously in a 'scape and had then stored outside for future use. Later on just before xmas my wife was very pleased to show me her latest creation; a spray paint covered "twiggy branch" to keep on the fire place!! For the last two years now that same "twiggy branch" has been soaking (inbetween scrubbing) outside in a tub! I'm hoping one day it might be clean enough to use again!!

    We don't always believe the teacher, but as an 'old' student, believe me he's right. Aquariums are a real blessing for health and mood (I'm not ashamed to admit that I struggle during this hard period, but my living room tank is like an oasis to me, helping me foresee a brighter future and endure the present). But it only works if your aquarium isn't a source of stress, which means it has to work. This is done like George says: start simple, follow a single recipe, don't deviate from it, accept that the results won't come in a day. These are things that will help you be happier even outside of aquascaping. And it works. If you doubt it, just think that a company like tropica makes its entire business model around making you return to their products after being successful. It works. If it doesn't, go back to the simple rules. It'll work. You'll love it.

      Usually i took a few stones like river quartz/granite , bind it to the driftwood big or small with waterproof epoxy putty or fishing leads..to anchor it down firmly into the substrate . It serves as good heavy base. Sometimes if I could get hold a heavy flat unglazed floor tile . I would bind the driftwood to dat and the substrate would hide the base tile nicely... easy to pick/place in a pinch. Btw, how is your Oji-san's durian seedling?

    Your “bloopers” reminded me of my past. Back when the earth was still cooling, I did voice overs for radio. They were on reel to reel tape and edited with a razor blade, bloopers tossed on the floor. My lifetime pile of outtakes would fill the Tropica warehouses.

    The Fluval Flex 57 l Aquarium is not only for beginners, but also for people for whom the effort to maintain an aquarium has become too great. I started 35 years ago with a 400 l aquarium, then I had a 250 l aquarium and last but not least, I had a 65 l aquarium. Now I change to another category smaller. The reason is that the Fluval Flex 57 l aquarium is 12 cm lower than my last 65 l aquarium. This makes it easier for me to reach the bottom of the tank and easier to change the water. I could also stop with aquariums, but for me a home without an aquarium is not a home.

    Hi George, Firstly Your a legend!!! Now here you have presented yet another innovative creation that continues to inspire. I have recently created a Fluval 57L setup and called it "Darkness & Light" perhaps a very appropriate title during these times and I recall you saying that the anubis enjoys the dark side. I used a bonais wood in my scape and would love to post it so maybe I will link it in sometime if your interested, but I have only scaped for a little while so still a beginner. Anyway, I wanted to say Thank you for all that you do and for the way you freely share your hints, tips and artistry. Oh and the by the way I have preordered the hardcover copy of your book that I have yet to see you promote in any of your tutorials, I ordered mine from Amazon UK - Aquascaping: A Step-By-Step Guide to Planting, Styling, and Maintaining Beautiful Aquariums by George Farmer - I was also thinking if you put a link in your description on all your youtube videos surely you can earn a little something extra to help support you in your valuable work. You deserve an OBE for Arts - Just an idea but in the meantime Keeeeeeeeeeeeeep on Scaping !!!!

    I’ve just got two new flex’s and came on here to get some plant ideas....couldn’t believe my luck! Excellent advice as ever. I have a non flex related question, do you have any tips for removing hair algae? It’s in my 450l which is tropical, heavily planted with easy plants, no co2 and home to, fish, shrimp and snails. Thanks!

    It is now August and here in Southern California, we continue to try to maintain social distancing. I discovered aquascaping while researching aquarium care. It has really saved my sanity and sparked my creativity. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!

    So I have the Fluval Flex 34L, I love it...
    Any reason why you didn’t use the water inlet splitter? Did you find better flow without it connected or was this removed to make planting/filming easier??
    Thanks 👍🏻

    In no particular order:
    1. Lockdown
    2. Stare at scape
    3. Feed fish
    4. Trim plants
    5. Replant
    6. Change water
    7. Clean filter
    8. Scrape algae
    9. Small re-scape
    10. Massive re-scape
    11. Disaster
    12. Scolded+++
    13. Clean up
    14. Lockdown.
    15. Repeat.

    Well done George, no smirking or smiling during your 53b ‘commercial’. I have the same Flex which has been set up for 14 months. I’ve a slight problem with the said 53b, it’s gone what can only be described as ‘leggy’. Is this a lack of light penetration? The soil is Tropica and I dose with Premium. Please keep videoing in these troubled times.

      I'd say that, yes. It's the case with every stem plant but the 53b does that a lot to me (because of its large leaves, I guess). I just do what I do with every other stems and what George does : I cut the top parts and replant them. Then both parts form a nice bush.

    Super inspiring video, I'm going to have a go at redoing my flex, as I've got most of the plants already do you have any other suggestions on the wood as I can't afford the Hugo Kashimi stuff your using.

    Hi George. Is it Octopus wood? Have just seen a similar looking product on the riverwood aquatics website under that name, looks like ramous wood stuck to redmoor or similar! Cheers for the as always informative content.

    Thanks for the informative video George. I'm excited to build my first Aquascape tank - I've purchased the same products from your video. Question: after planting the tank, I would like to leave it 2 weeks before adding any fish. Over this time - do I still need to change/treat the water frequently ?
