Hi guys. Could someone help me. I have problems with my Pioneer XDJ RX2. When I hang up, songs are no longer visible in my playlist or can no longer be found. then I had to unplug my USB stick or hard drive and then put it back in. Then the songs reappear. What could be the problem please?
Good video and review, I pick mine up tomorrow so super stoked. The only issues I have with it is the lack of 4 fader channels on the mixer when adding auxiliary decks and the removal of the LAN port. I do not like that they have gone to USB as it is a very unstable data source connection and I'm sure anyone who has used USB controllers and Serato/Traktor boxes will have seen or experienced issues in this area. One other thing I don't like is the headphone jack for monitoring, it is placed at the front of the console rather than on the top like all club industry mixers which causes issues for DJs that are used to this and support a right-angled jack on their headphones. Oh for anyone who is wondering, here in Australia our price for these are going for $2,349.00. :(
After using the XDJ-RX for two years I upgraded to the XDJ-RX2 after buying it I had less then 4 hours to jump right into it, I had not one single problem figuring it out other then a couple knobs being in different places I can say 100% the RX2 is nails it took my live show skills to the next level what an improvement if you have any doubts don't I'm super cautious about what I buy and really take my time watching reviews and videos on its functions I've been a club Dj since 1986 and I can say Pioneer great job.
Bill Patterson you can but you won't get the sound waves cue points and few more options its a huge difference when you analyze your music it really brings everything to life on your controller
@crossfader Hey mate! Just got this yesterday and using rekordbox to play the tracks directly from the laptop. I’ve analysed the tracks and set them to show Camelot (numeric) value in rekordbox but when they load into the rx2, they still show the regular western tuning when trying to search by key. What am I missing? Thanks in advance! OS X btw.
The rx2 screen will indicate which tracks can be mixed in key. You will notice a green icon replacing the bpm icon next to the actually bpm value when browsing
The xdj-r1 freezes up (not to be confused with the xdj-rx1) and I have to power off and back on. There are tons of negative reviews online for the same issue on that controller. I'm skeptical about getting another pioneer controller. Have you had any issues with the RX2?
Does this NEED a laptop in order to work properly / most optimally? I hate dragging a laptop around, as it looks amateur these days. I've used Traktor for so many years, but RekordBox seems great. Is it possible to setup the library before hand, and import those settings / library to the RX2 without needing to have a laptop while you're playing?
Yep thats exactly what it's been designed to do. You won't need to take your laptop with you as this is an all in one stand alone unit. You just prepare music on your laptop and export it to a USB drive which then plugs into the XDJ RX2.
SZ2 is on top of the list. i cant compare it with RX. SZ is a beast with 4 channels and double sound cards. and more importantly its compatible on all software platforms. RX independence is only for rekordbox audio. for video youll require a laptop. SZ and SX are the best releases
not forgetting the fact that SZ2 is DVS ready. yuo can connect your Vinyl and operate on four channels instantly. you can connect your 2 CDJs and operate on four channels instantly. I dont think there is any ther better deal than that.
Hi Jamie, if you had a choice of buying the Rx2 and the Nxs2 system, which would you go for? I know there is a huge difference in price, but would like to know your thoughts.
Hey Crossfader, been DJing for over a year now (mostly house disco and techno) and as am going to Uni in Bristol in September I want some new decks to hopefully start getting more gigs. So far I have DJed in a local bar and mix nigh on everyday using my Serato Mixtrack Pro 2's. Should I upgrade to a second hand set of DDJ SB2s or a bit more of an investment win myself with these?
I would say go for the investment especially if you’re aiming to play in more bars/clubs/venues at uni. These mirror a club set up pretty well! If you can afford it go for it! Plus you will be able to sell these on for a decent amount too down the road.
@@pajtimdj Thank you for your response, I can't wait for mine to come. I'm reading that some people are using Rekordbox on a laptop but I don't want all that bother because all in one means exactly what it says, I want to be able to practice my mixing with and without the sync button and save money.
If money was no object, would you consider the Rx2 over the NXS2 separates. Might sound a daft question, but it looks like these all in one units are becoming similar to the club gear or are they still more for bedroom dj's??
Jaime, thanks for the review. I really liked using this unit that my friends own, but FLAC limitation's pretty daunting considering that my library is predominantly...FLAC. Trying to use Performance Mode as a workaround since I can pull files from Rekordbox without hardware limitation. Wondering what the limitations on controlling Rekordbox via Performance Mode would be (compared to using RX2 as a standalone unit)? Heard that the sound color FX can't be selected via RX2 buttons (instead you have to select in Rekordbox if you want to do anything other than "noise"). Is this still the case? Also, if I edit hotcues and memory cues/loops via RX2 hardware buttons in performance mode (for FLAC files that can't run on standalone mode...) would it actually update the original files on my laptop accordingly (vs. pulling files from laptop in "read-only" fashion and not being able to edit them on RX2)? Thanks a ton.
Hey Jamie here is my question : I don't understand why you guys are never talking about the ddj rzx . It's exactly the 4 Channel mixer and so much more that you guys seem to wait for, but it's already on the market for about 3 years now. So what's the deal with that ?
I'd argue the sheer price of the RZX puts it into no mans land. It's not a stand alone unit so requires a high end laptop to run it, especially if you are doing Video DJ'ing and its already £2000 without the cost of the laptop! The DDJ 1000 is a better option at half the price, the Denon Prime 4 is a way better option and needs no laptop and costs £600 less! The DDJ RZX was a massive flop sadly because it isn't at all portable, costs way too much and apart from the screens, doesn't offer much over the much cheaper DDJ-RZ / DDJ 1000!
Oh hell I think I was very wrong then ? Thank you so much ! I was about to buy it thinking it was exactly like the rx2 with just 4 channels and 3 screens ...
I have a problem and was hoping you could please help me. I recently watched your video about PIONEER XDJ-RX2. I went out and bought one, but can't get the touch screen and keyboard (track search to work). What should I do??
How can the performance mode be corrected as you have mentioned that in performance mode the beat loop mode is pad FX. And in standalone mode when used with pen drives it works accurately. I have tried re mapping the beat loop in the software but it's not working. Is there a xdj rx2 midi map file that can be directly imported and the issue is resolved. Kindly help to rectify this issue. Currently running firmware 1.34 on xdj rx2
Hi. I just bought the XDJ RX2 but I dont have the speakers yet. Is it possible to connect the pioneer to my laptop? I mean, to get the sound from my laptopt? Thank you,
No it shouldn’t do if you analyse your tracks in normal mode. The Bpm will only fluctuate if the tracks have been analysed in dynamic mode. This mode is best used for transition tracks and older funk/soul/anything recorded with live drums.
Crossfader tracks not analysed at all Just tracks on usb into cdj The pitch fader set to say 125 bpm During song it changes constantly up and down by half to even a whole bpm
Yeah that’s the same across all pioneer products. The processor inside the equipment is constantly trying to determine what the bpm of the track is. It then if it’s inside a breakdown for example it struggle to analyse the beats and there for the Bpm read out fluctuates. The tracks speed doesn’t change however I would recommend if using any pioneer products to run your music though rekordbox. This will stop this happening.
Does it have the Rekordbox DVS support? As far as I've seen, it has line/phono inputs and native rekordbox dj support, so does it support the DVS feature?
would you recommend doing your rekordbox beginner tutorial on this pioneer xdj rx2? my friend has a cheap one she could sell me but i'm keen to do your rekordbox tutorials. would the features be very different to using a ddj or would it just be using the xdj screen rather than laptop? didn't want to overcomplicate it at the beginning! cheers
Thanks man. I love how this looks, I was a fan of the old one but never bought it cause it was lacking in most things i use. but this one has about 80 percent of the stuff i was missing so a good update for Pioneer
Simon Snoeck , I was missing instant doubles button , four more playing pads . Better interface screen (hopefully touch) search feature , more laptop features to map, better crossfader , aux input with filter option. Jog wheels profomance similar to the Roland controller , echo out to mid range only option , can't remember the rest
So basically Pioneer have looked at the Denon MCX-8000 taken some of the features but not the most important ones! The Denon has 4 channels, uses the engine software (the same as SC5000), has 8 multi coloured pads per channel, doesn't have a touch screen but has a touch strip for searching through the track and does have a screen for each channel. Denon released the MCX-8000 18 months earlier than the RX2! Only thing I don't really like about the Denon controller range is they mirror the setup of the two channels to make it look pretty! Its annoying that the pitch is on the right on the right hand channel and on the left on the left hand channel. Hopefully the next Denon stand alone controller will ditch the mirroring layout, I would then change over to Denon as they would match any club set up irrelevant of brand and would be amazing at home. Definitely worth looking at the Denon if you are in the market for a £1000+ controller. Crossfader could you do a comparison?
I thought Dennon will have an update and go to engine prime. .Is it still pitfall of the MXC 800? Engine software. I tried Engine software. Baaad . veery very Baad. Thats why I Bought the Rx instead the mcx 8000. Does anyone Knows certainly if the MCX 8000 yet can use Engine Prime. I think is way better then the rx2. pointing the 4 channel mixer.
I thought they were updating that?! I can't get used to the mirror layout anyway. I currently use an Pioneer XDJ R1 and a novation twitch. The point I was making was feature wise the RX2 hasn't moved on any further than the Denon MCX8000 that was released 18 months before. It could of done more to cement the controller crown that the RX1 claimed.
+gixxerboy555 yes the sound quality is great. They both have pretty much the same outputs so you can plug either unit into a PA/club system. I feel like the RX2 definitely has more headroom and a cleaner sound than using a controller with software. Sound quality is spot on when recording mixes too.
sorry bro but i'm a little noob on these things (and English isn't my main language..)..what do you exactly mean with.. "the RX2 definitely has more headroom and a cleaner sound than using a controller with software". ?Are there multiple options to record your mixes?Thnx ;)
great video, thank you... Please can someone let me know if when you play a track form the USB stick, if it stops after the track is finished or if it automatically plays the next track? Thanks!
+Paolo Blallo reds are bass, greens are mids, blues are highs but obviously there are all the other colours between those in the spectrum. You can turn the waveforms just to blue also if you prefer.
Does anyone know if the waveform is improved compared to the xdjrx? I was waiting for a firmware upgrade on the xdjrx as the waveform is just one colour and I would buy this if this more inline with reckordbox waveform Thanks
Hi Crossfader, I’ve just purchased this controller and it’s fantastic. I don’t however know how to turn on the flashing jog wheel when the song is coming to an end? Anyone know how to do this? I see the bottom line on the touchscreen under the wave pattern starts to flash but can’t see how the jog wheel flashes on the middle?
+Alan Keith Entertainment it will work with VDJ however I don't think they have released a mapping for it yet so you would be left to try and map it yourself for now. I'm sure it won't be long as the original XDJ RX is supported.
Great video, personally I won't be buying one due to the lack of channels. I was hoping for a 3-4 channel priced between 2-3000. guess I'll just have to wait another 2-3 years for an update or hopefully Denon releases something interesting in January.
+Pink Panta as far as we're aware it won't but this isn't something we have tested personally. It's intended more to be used as a standalone set up rather than a controller.
+mrjonolewarne we couldn't find a way to do it. Definitely a bit weird it not going up to 16. Only thing we could suggest is you set 8 beats then press the loop 2x button straight after.
Crossfader hopefully they'll update the firmware so that its possible. Playing anything vocal needs 16 beat loops a lot of the time, I use them a lot. Is there a way to activate an upcoming loop like in Traktor? That's the only other thing I think I'd miss if and when I make the switch to Pioneer
+Jay El there are things called active loops which activate when you reach that point in the track. The only issue is you can't turn the loop on and off before it reaches that point. Every time you play the track the loop will activate and you would have to exit the loop when it gets there, if you didn't want it to be active. This can be done by saving a loop in the memory bank within the rekordbox software. Then click the orange loop icon and it will turn red. We have a rekordbox tips and tricks video on our channel which explains how to do this.
I was looking to upgrade from my current Numark NVII's but I don't like that these don't have a slicer function (unless I've missed it) but it's a choice between these and the Dennon Prime 2's
+Brandon Robbins hmm I personally think that what you get extra doesn't really warrant $700 necessarily. You can still perform pretty much the same set on it just this one is nicer to use and has those extra features. It's totally down on wether you wanted to spend the extra money. The XDJ RX is still an amazing unit and this doesn't leave it in the shadows by any means.
Brandon Robbins Absolutely not...keep your RX i will exacly do that also, from what i can see not enough "new stuff" to worth pay the extra, plus touch screens are less precise them a normal knob
+DJ AMP not as a standalone unit. However if you're using the performance mode of rekordbox with it plugged into your laptop the software has a sampler. If you use the sampler a lot I would recommend looking at controller like the DDJ RX or DDJ RZ over this unit.
What's out there that could do USB or computer and 4 channels for adding CDJ's or turntables without breaking the bank! Thank you kindly and appreciate your videos!!
Great video. I`ve bought one.. just waiting for it to arrive in Norway. I really love this controller. I`ve got the RX now, and it`s just fab. The one thing I`m a bit angry about is that Pioneer DJ removed the gate/comp effect. What `stupid` developer did that? That`s probably the effect I really use all the time. And it might be a reason to not keep the new RX2.
Nope, it is standalone meaning all you need is a USB drive to play it. Basically the same concept as a CDJ-2000 which eliminates the need for a laptop.
Love it. One short coming I noticed while watching is that you mentioned it has two usb's for when switching DJs. But what if you are recording onto USB 2?
TheHoodiman That’s gonna be bad luck on that one. Unless there is a firmware update coming to allow for this and record while swapping.. maybe using the record box record feature with laptop enabled may work..... I hope you find a way to fix this bro 🙏👍👍👍🤘🏻
youri berger what make is the $250 one you use and does it use a USB flash sticks or just a controller..I’m looking for a USB flash stick mode and cheaper product..pls help a bro🙏
It really is no good at all being 2 channels... Particularly if you want to do fast paced, layered Drum & Bass mixes with double drops etc. which is what I do. And it would also be no good even if it was 2 faders with deck select, it needs to be a full 4 channel with 4 individual faders. If that was the case I would pick one up tomorrow, but it looks like I'm gonna have to look at a DDJ-SX3 instead and just use Serato on Library mode so as not to be a "Laptop DJ"...

What type of usb stick are you using in this video @crossfader? Also, what USB sticks would you recommend and if to use 2.0 or 3.0 or not?
Thanks for the review. I want one now.
honestly for the money and the features, which is better for home studio, RX2 or XZ?
I’m still deciding myself!
can you do loops that are 16 beats long? in your review you say it only goes up to 8 beats?
I'm STUCK between this the RX2 or the DDJ 1000, anybody have a preference or advice?? Thanks!
what did you go for in the end?
^^^ in the same predicament !!
Where can I find those cushions for those speakers? or what are they called? been looking for ages..
They’re called speaker isolation pads. Order them from multiple places online, even amazon.
What about the sound..?Is it better than the "Pioneer DDJ-SX2" and SQ for recording your mixes?thnx
+gixxerboy555 yes the sound quality is great. They both have pretty much the same outputs so you can plug either unit into a PA/club system. I feel like the RX2 definitely has more headroom and a cleaner sound than using a controller with software.
Sound quality is spot on when recording mixes too.
ok thanx...you mean recorded on stick though?Grtz..P.
sorry bro but i'm a little noob on these things (and English isn't my main language..)..what do you exactly mean with.. "the RX2 definitely has more headroom and a cleaner sound than using a controller with software". ?Are there multiple options to record your mixes?Thnx ;)
ok thanx alot for your answer bro..and congrats for your very informative revieuws...top
Is this good as 1st controller?For a beginner?gr.
I brought my 2 Months ago and my QWERTY KEYBOARD is not working. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
great video, thank you... Please can someone let me know if when you play a track form the USB stick, if it stops after the track is finished or if it automatically plays the next track? Thanks!
Thanks for the review. How can i use samples?
does all xdj don't have alternative proformence option(pad fx, key shift)?
what indicates the colours of the new waveform from pioneer? (ad example: red indicates bass, ecc ecc) I'm seeing too much colours..
+Paolo Blallo reds are bass, greens are mids, blues are highs but obviously there are all the other colours between those in the spectrum. You can turn the waveforms just to blue also if you prefer.
Does anyone know if the waveform is improved compared to the xdjrx?
I was waiting for a firmware upgrade on the xdjrx as the waveform is just one colour and I would buy this if this more inline with reckordbox waveform
Thanks
The RX2 features RGB or Blue waveforms. Only the CDJ-3000 can display the tri colour option that Rekordbox 6 is now using.
I'm not sure but I think you have to access the menu and you should find the option there
Hold click on the menu button to access it
Thanks for the review, found it helpful 🙌
Will this work and mapped for VDJ?
+Alan Keith Entertainment it will work with VDJ however I don't think they have released a mapping for it yet so you would be left to try and map it yourself for now. I'm sure it won't be long as the original XDJ RX is supported.
can we use both the pendrive simultaneously for e.g. pd 1 for left deck and pd 2 for right deck.
+DJ ADITYA SAMANTA yeah you can 👍🏼
Great video, personally I won't be buying one due to the lack of channels. I was hoping for a 3-4 channel priced between 2-3000. guess I'll just have to wait another 2-3 years for an update or hopefully Denon releases something interesting in January.
is the size the same as the mk 1 ? or will i need a new flight case if i was to upgrade?
+liam kieran there are literally an extra inch or so in height I think.... which in turn means a new flight case unfortunately.
Can you adjust the beat grid while playing or on cue ?
excellent review crossfader
Can i use this without a computer or laptop? Just a USB with my music in it?
Kris Moses yup
Hi can u help me with the sample volume on the rx2?
It also hasn't got a sampler button but that can be mapped
how big are the jog wheels compared to the cdj 2000nexus
Is this model usable without a laptop (newbie when it comes to dj sets 😅)
Yes :)
@@Crossfader thnk you sir! :)
Whats the story on DVS? I'd really like this but it needs to be DVS capable. That'ts what kept me from buying the original.
Nice gear, but as you said in the video, I'm dissapointed because of 2 channel mixer and not 4 .
But business is business ;-)
Would have liked to see the full CDJ wheels on this also.
What is the price of the Pioneer XDJ
Does it support serato dj pro???? Please help
No need for laptop
Usb plug n play.???
yep
Don't you need tracks analysed on rekordbox first?
Its best to do so.but you can plug and play.
Amazing review love this channel 💯
may i ask which are the best spaeakers for the rx2 may i ask??? rokit??
Can I use it without a computer.
yes you can!
very good review; would this controller also work with DJay by Algorithm via usb Ipad connection???
+Pink Panta as far as we're aware it won't but this isn't something we have tested personally. It's intended more to be used as a standalone set up rather than a controller.
Awesome Jamie, purchased from Bop today
Hi. Is it possible to customise the loop pads so that 16 beats is the largest, not 8?
I just got the XDJ-RX in mail today for $1k used. You guys think its worth it to return and spend the extra $700?
+Brandon Robbins hmm I personally think that what you get extra doesn't really warrant $700 necessarily. You can still perform pretty much the same set on it just this one is nicer to use and has those extra features. It's totally down on wether you wanted to spend the extra money. The XDJ RX is still an amazing unit and this doesn't leave it in the shadows by any means.
Brandon Robbins Absolutely not...keep your RX i will exacly do that also, from what i can see not enough "new stuff" to worth pay the extra, plus touch screens are less precise them a normal knob
Hey bro, can i buy a single CDJ and hook it up to my RX2? please let me know the input method.
Hex Motif Music no because it’s only 2 channels not 3 or 4
yes, if you replace one of the standard decks to a line input for the CDJ you have.
What’s the measurements on this unit I want to build a desk for it thanks!!
Pioneer DJ list all their measurements on their website in the items technical specifications
Tell Pioneer to come with a rotory controller. I'll buy it! It needs to be the size of the RZ.
calvin smith nah they will never do it. The NS7 was trash because of its reliability.
ezar howard the NS7 doesn't have a rotory mixer on it.
ezar howard I'm talking about rane, bozak and urei type mixers.
Naw this is a good size. You don't need a laptop. Just plug your thumb drive and go!!
If you want a rotary mixer buy then just buy a rane?!
Is there anything like Serato sp-8 for playing samples and drops?
+DJ AMP not as a standalone unit. However if you're using the performance mode of rekordbox with it plugged into your laptop the software has a sampler.
If you use the sampler a lot I would recommend looking at controller like the DDJ RX or DDJ RZ over this unit.
is better xz?
DDJ RB on steroids
Might sound a stupid question! But can someone tell me, can I put my I pod classic into this unit! So I can access all my music from the iPod??
+Paul Lipscombe no you wouldn’t be able to directly plug an iPod classic into it. You would have to export music from your laptop to a usb stick.
Crossfader ok, thank you.
What's out there that could do USB or computer and 4 channels for adding CDJ's or turntables without breaking the bank! Thank you kindly and appreciate your videos!!
What is the width and length of the display?
I have the mapping key for 2 extra channels on the rx2👏🏻
Great video. I`ve bought one.. just waiting for it to arrive in Norway. I really love this controller. I`ve got the RX now, and it`s just fab. The one thing I`m a bit angry about is that Pioneer DJ removed the gate/comp effect. What `stupid` developer did that? That`s probably the effect I really use all the time. And it might be a reason to not keep the new RX2.
Do you need to have a laptop connected to use de controller?
Craig Owles slot 2 will record and play at same time.
Does this not work with serato?
What I just don’t understand what are the differences compared to a cheaper dj set I use a $250 one and I can do the exact same with that
youri berger what make is the $250 one you use and does it use a USB flash sticks or just a controller..I’m looking for a USB flash stick mode and cheaper product..pls help a bro🙏
Rekordbox that perfect good crossfader I love it 😊
Looks great and I really would buy one if they could have updated one thing...bigger jog wheels!!
It would be amazing to get some full size jog wheels on a unit like this!
Booth outputs?
Do pads work for samples without hooking it up to a laptop
+GarethisOnit no I'm afraid they don't.
Thanks for open my eyes.
