Good review. Enjoying my RX for a few weeks now. It's just so straight forward and basic that it's perfect for people who on occasion play in a club (like me, once or twice a year) but at home most of the time.
Why do reviewers and such keep making this sound like a "toy". They make it sound like something for JUST a beginner. I have been dj'n for 15 years and I have NEVER used Serato nor used a laptop to dj (Denons and a usb stick). This is what I'm looking for. I have used pioneers, spin on 1200's, cdj's and I believe this is the future. But I don't believe it's just for beginners. This is for djs who want an all in one controller. This is for djs who are tired of the laptop or just don't want to use it anymore. This is for djs who don't believe you need the top of the line "club standard" equipment to rock a party. This is for djs who are beginners or professionals who just love to dj.
But guess what...wait until they make an updated version that has four channels, a few more bells and whistles but is basically the same as this model, THEN they'll say it's club ready. lol
The SCS.4DJ by Stanton gave us our first controller without the use of a laptop. It's not your top end controller but it'll get the job done. Pioneer's XDJ-RX in the answer to the Stanton's SCS.4DJ and I believe other manufactures will soon follow suite. Pioneer's has all the "bell and whistles" you can expect from a stand alone controller at a price point of around $1500. Not pocket change for beginners and even some pro Djs. It's most defiantly NOT your beginner controller. Keep in mind that every Dj will not embrace a controller like this yet, it's intended for mobile DJs who love portability and quick set up time. A complete game changer in my opinion..
Many thanks Mo! Great review. I think this is the future for dj's who want to start doing serious dj'ing and for real Pro's who are tired to used laptops! This is totally freedom to rock any parties or clubs! Great review channel bro!
watching all these videos on various DJ equipment makes you end up wanting top of the line models with the added features that they provide, lol ... those Pioneer screens looks awesome, very detailed. Thanks again for your videos Mojaxx
Keep in mind you can't visually beatmatch two different bpm songs on this unit, I know it's not needed, but its a nice reference to have. I sold my RX year ago and got the cheaper RR version and you can visually beatmatch that way on it.
You mean it doesn't tell you the bpm of each song on the screen? Im not paying 1500 for the rx2 so it's between one of these or an xdj rr. The small jogs and pitch fader on the rr are whats bugging me.
Hi! Didn't get the Cue Monitoring issue when we he says split cue. I mean, if I turn it counterclockwise I can only hear the selected channel, right? Big shout from Brazil! Looking forward to seeing this machine here.
I have a question about this. I have a usb thats been thru Rekordbox and its made for using it on cdj. Can i use that very same usb on xdj rx? I am asking because i could not do that when i had to dj on a xdj r1..or..well..it loaded all the songs, but ONLY in alphabetical order..no playlists was available on the r1 , and thats not good to work with. Will this be the same issue here with usb sticks made for cdj (2000 etc) ?
RX Fans...watch out...Denon DJ has recently come out with a new controller... CMX 8000, Laptop and Standalone capabilities; u can have it play 2 decks using USB or 4 decks using Serato (full). Mixer is a 4 channel mixer and can support 2 external devices in addition to the controller itself. Jog Wheels light up around edges, and each deck has 8 different colored pads ( loop slice, cues, auto loop stuff). Large pitch control too along with a needle search. The most exciting thing, however, is the two HD screens with engine software. Full color wave forms, BPM, KEY, cues, and everything. Solid build with metal construction. This IS an all-in one controller, you can ditch the laptop, or use it with one! Will be introduced at NAMM 2016, and will be available in Feb. Price is around $1300 ( USD)
Aaaaannd, as if that wasn't enough, it's dvs-ready and it ships with Serato full version, not to mention a new MCX8000 is still cheaper than a used XDJ-RX.
QUESTION: If my collection has been analysed by Traktor and cue points set by traktor, will this unit read this analysis and beatmapping? Also, will this unit analyze tracks via USS if they haven't been analysed in Record box already?
Hello have a XDJ RX but I have the following problem, loading 45 songs loading menu stops responding. Even the load keys, stop responding You can test your equipment to see if it is a bug or if it is a fault of my equipment Thank you for your help.
ive reached time in my life now where im looking for decks again and oh my times have changed from my direct drive numark tt150s and numark mixer. yes its been 13 years since i last bought mine as a angry hormonal teenager. this vid has sold the rmx to me especially after lusting after pioneer cdj1000 mk3 as a later teen
I like your reviews mate youre always clear and straight to the point. I'm a huge HipHop head and thats what I'd like to get in to mixing. I got my first DDJ's a few months ago the DDJ-SB. Are DDJ's good for someone to wants to learn to mix HipHop? I would go straight to some Technics 1210's but its out my budget at the moment.
Is there instant doubles on this unit? With or without the laptop? Such. As serato, I can play the same song on both decks and beat juggle and mess with it. Does the xdjrx do it?
I just bought this Controller. How do you analyze the tracks in the Rekordbox Software so that your tracks can be synced on the unit when you load them in?
Hi mate nice vid, How does the sound compare to say CDJ900 Nexus'? I've got a pair of them and an old basic analog mixer///and was thinking of maybe changing to this for ease of transport etc (plus I do enjoy the pioneer fx) Or would that be a silly idea? I don't really like the sound of the Pioneer mixers, so I'm a bit uncertain. Hmmm
Mojaxx great review, thank you. 1. Have you heard anything about the 4 channel (+ other functions missing) version of this unit coming out anytime soon please? 2. I'm thinking of getting this unit and 2xSL1200s. Will I use the analogue sound quality fed from SLs and vinyl recordings to this unit? As I know all Pioneer mixers (DJM line) are analogue as per architecture (which is synonymous with having D/A and A/D data on a spec sheet, if I understand correctly?) so I suppose the standalone mixer on this unit is digital too. So what about the sound quality then? Will I lose the 'analogueness' fed from SL1200s to this unit in the process of digitization? Or am I better off going modular with something like: xone43C (fully analogue mixer!) + 2xSL1200s + xone:K1. What I will gain from this is that fully analogue setup that I am after when listening casually to vinyl records and not working on my dj skills with rekordbox and mp3s (which is something I would really like - unless it is a myth that analogue mixers sound better then digital ones - when fed with pure analogue signal from SL1200s ? ? ? ). What I will lose from this setup (and what I really like to have though) is the ability to work with rekordbox ecosystem - as I want to end up in the dj booth with years to come - and as we all know Pioneer/rekordbox own the dj booth. Unless I went with something like this: xone43C (analogue sound!) + 1xSL1200 (analogue sound!) + 1xXDJ1000 (rekordbox learning) + xone k1. With this I would get full analog capability, rekordbox learning), dvs and serrate DJ - sounds like really complete setup. The main drawback is I couldn't mix from the same medium to the same medium (SL/vinyl to SL/vinyl and/or xdj to xdj) - I don't how much of a headache/bad idea that would be. The things I am treating as constants: I already have very powerful MacBook Pro - so I don't count the cost of getting a new one. All my music is in mp3s but I plan to start buying 'real' vinyl records too - so that I can listen to them casually/in the background when doing something else and also trying to mix with real vinyl too - we all know mixing on vinyl is the hardest. I really like the way how Pioneer gear/mixers look and feel and have layout. I struggle to love Rane and AH really - I know it's not important at all but AH.....just looks like a toy a bit. Because of that I was even thinking of mixers like reloops rmx80 or denon's dn-x1600 because they resemble djm mixers so much. In this case though I would lose the 'analogue' benefit of dropping the AH xone43C. What do you think? mega mega thanks
1. Pioneer hasn't released anything about a XDJ-RZ (I'm curious too about it). Hope it gets released soon. 2. There is no point of buying this and 2xSL1200s since you will be able to use only 2 channels. Better go with an RZ and 2xSL1200. 3. Since you have a powerful laptop (and you are willing to use it for your gigs) I don't really find the reason of buying the XDJ-RX. Just go for the DDJ-RZ and you will be ok.
hi there. great vid! starting to think bout buying one of these as want to move from traktor. whats the platter when mixing compared to the 2000s in relation to the response when slowing down or speeding up.
im confused here, this is XDJ RX and there is also XDJ RR wich looks same as RX? I dont see the XDJ RX writen on this but on RR i can same the name on the player. XDJ RR is the same as XDJ RX but Pioneer changed the name later?
XDJ RR is just a smaller stripped down version of the RX2. Its basically the same as the RX2 (feature wise) but it has less outputs and no touchscreen. The RX 1 is the first model of that series with some minor differences
Does anyone know whether the RX allows the DJ to filter tracks based on their MyTag data saved in Rekordbox WITHOUT the need of having the laptop hooked up? i.e. natively in the browse window on the unit when exporting MyTag info onto a USB via Rekordbox. This is a game changer for me, i'd really appreciate an answer on this before buying one. Thanks (Great review as always!)
If someone has a USB stick of music that is not setup with Rekordbox, will that still load in the unit to play? Or would they have to be using Rekordbox with their USB stick too?
actually you can't because the tracks are not analyzed! Oh, my console and the one of one of my friends have some bis issue with non rekordbox usb. Did you find any problem?
+Dario Khademi (Cerbero) no problem it's just at the moment I didn't have a laptop but I finally bought one and analyzed the tracks and now I see the waveforms. Thanks for the help
Brilliant, thanks -- i cant see why everybody is moaning about the lack of qwerty keyboard . the whole point is, u dont need a laptop, ie, its just DJing and not playing on a computer, scrolling through ur tracks is like the old days of flicking through our record bags --- Its a well sweet unit -

Hi Moejaxx I've been doing a lot of research on the xdj-rx and it seems like you are forced to use the rekordbox software, is that true? Can you use just a flashdrive with just plain mp3 and mix without using rekordbox? I really love this unit but if you are forced to use rekordbox, I will just stick with my cdj-850's. Thanks
You can but the tempo of the songs will change slightly while playing and you don’t want that while transitioning. When they’re analyzed by rekordbox the tempo will be fixed.
+David Estrelinha you can use it with Traktor as a MIDI Controler.... This Pioneer will work as a Traktor S4, you wont see the trak names on the mixer.
+Larry Punter lol hit the nail on the head :) for everything this does its brilliant but ye everyone else knows better and loves to diss what they think doesnt meet their standards. clearly its not made for that dude but no need for him to say its shit. nothing wrong with 10k on a setup either to be fair if you have a spare 10k :)
mine came on tuesday from decks.co.uk and ive had problems with it already (could be going back). it also feels cheaply made. but it does what it says on the tin. not worth £1200 imo.
Well first the esthetic I don't like it .it's too small ,too compact and I'm not comfortable with it . The price is so high also ! For this price you should buy XDJ 700 with a controller it's gonna be much better and it force you to work with two different lines ( better if you want to learn how to mix with vinyles)
This is by far the best channel for reviews on all DJ related gear. Thanks so much Mo.

I agree
DJBooks1 Well said. I agree too..:)
Very true so. I encountered the same thing with a few people reviewing the XDJ-R1.
DJBooks1 TRUE, they always make it seem like if its not a cdj its a beginners equipment

Please, what's the title of the instrumental TRAP song played ?
***** Nop This is not the right song
DJ StarkS Pretty sure it is......
Yeah, what's the title instrumental song pleade
+DJ StarkS

Hi there both my master tempo buttons don’t come on deck 2 isn’t working any suggestions ?
I really appreciate these videos guys! Keep em coming!

Daxton Perkins
It has it's own software, and it has the same functionality as Rekordbox.

And your advice was really usefull!

Great, thnks for this. wich song is played in the background 7min 36 please 🙄
Great review thanks.. thinking of getting one ... could you use a external hard rice instead of USB stick?
I'm gonna wait for the updated version of this. Been losing interest for it for quite some time now. XDJ-RX2 will be a killer, I hope...
why losing interest?
Still waiting? ;)
STILL waiting?
Alexander Gunnarsson now the 2 is released

and can I connect it in virtual dj8 free? :) answer please ?
Any change to use 4 deck with this or to add for example and F1 extra controller?
trying to see if the wave form can be set to side by side (vertical) like serato dj
Can anyone tell me what make and model his USB stick was? It looks pretty cool. Thanks in advance.
I can't seem to find any info out there about the sound quality. Does anyone know if it has the same chip set as say the XDJ-1000's?
If I don't wanna use the pc do I need just one USB pen to play songs on both decks?
and Is FL Studio a good MUISC software
Is there instant doubles on this unit? With or without the laptop? Such. As serato, I can play the same song on both decks and beat juggle and mess with it. Does the xdjrx do it?
+johnnysimsyo nope !
I just bought this Controller. How do you analyze the tracks in the Rekordbox Software so that your tracks can be synced on the unit when you load them in?
you analyze the files through rekordbox box and export to a USB drive

How to change the color lcd pioneer xdj-rx
The track title is red!! how to do?
Pioneer XDJ-RX it can do autoplay list from usb stick? thank you for support
JPnumark Pimenta i know it was 3 years ago you wrote this, but if you were wondering if it could autoplay, why not only phone + spotify?
If someone has a USB stick of music that is not setup with Rekordbox, will that still load in the unit to play? Or would they have to be using Rekordbox with their USB stick too?
FCKN GAMM Yeah man, it's work even without rekordbox prepared USB sticks!
+Dario Khademi (Cerbero) i connected my usb & it works but I can't figure it out on how the waveforms pop up.
actually you can't because the tracks are not analyzed!
Can xdj rx compatible with serato dj?
yes but it kind of defeats its purpose since its made to use as a stand alone unit.
Brilliant, thanks -- i cant see why everybody is moaning about the lack of qwerty keyboard . the whole point is, u dont need a laptop, ie, its just DJing and not playing on a computer, scrolling through ur tracks is like the old days of flicking through our record bags --- Its a well sweet unit -
Agreed. I wanted to drop the PC like the old days when I carried that heavy bag of vinyl. Just play.
im getting mine today
3-7 days! Have you found stands/coffins?
Yeh i get a Magma flight case
if you wanted to would you be able to mix off of your laptop with this controller? and if so what program would you have to use?
+Vickie Cadiz recordbox
The XDJ-RX is made firstly as a standalone unit using it's own engine (rekordbox). It's the same engine used from the CDJ2000s
To say that this isn't a 'professional' club type controller doesn't make sense to me. DJs used this controller at Ultra this year? Such as the Laidback Luke if you saw his live set.
It's just not built to take the kind of abuse that Pioneer's 'club standard' equipment is, despite having most of the same features.
I've just checked out the video of Laidback Luke at Ultra 2015, and he's definitely using 4x CDJ-2000 Nexus and a DJM-900 Nexus as usual there.
Justin Horn it has two channels rather than four and lacks a send/return. both essential really for proper club use. looks like a great unit though, looking forward to seeing if they produce a bigger version with those features
it has a usb button so does that mean you could add tracks from an external portable harddrive i.e your whole collection without the need for a laptop
yes. but there is a 10,000 track limit.
I don't thing you will even need more than 10.000 songs for a gig, right?!
Question for everyone: Is this a good unit for a beginner? If not what would you recommend?
What artist made the track "Power"?
What is the difference between the RX and the RR can someone help me
Please.. I want buy a new controller. Pioneer XDJ-RX / SX / SZ or R1?
Who is better?
David Estrelinha Depends , XDJ-RX If you wanna go without a laptop Or The SZ If you wanna go with a laptop.
can you connect it to a bigger screen monitor?
Can you please tell me how to change color on screen? I have blue theme and I don't know how to change it.
You can set the colour of each USB device in Rekordox on your computer.
+MojaxxVDJ quick question can you change the color of waveform to rgb?
Wait hang on. Is there a XDJ RX AND RR ? What is the difference ?
When will it be available in Spain?
How do you turn off master tempo?
Hi Moejaxx
I've been doing a lot of research on the xdj-rx and it seems like you are forced to use the rekordbox software, is that true? Can you use just a flashdrive with just plain mp3 and mix without using rekordbox? I really love this unit but if you are forced to use rekordbox, I will just stick with my cdj-850's. Thanks
rekordbox box is built in, it's like the OS for the xdj-rx
+rorz999 thank you.
Just to clearly answer your question, you can hook up a USB, but the RX won't be able to detect the BPM and u won't see any waveforms ;)
+Mr Kappa Thank you.
I cannot believe it! There are no full featured, all in one, stand alone units in 2017!
Touch release Nob has now same functions as the xdj 1000
is it good for a beginner DJ
I personally prefer Pioneer over Denon when it comes to tables. MIxers on the other hand I like Pioneer and Denon.
This unit would've been sweet if it had 4 channel mixer instead of 2...
Will it take turntables
Does anyone know why they chose not to make longer loop alternatives?
+patA hi :) you can change the loop longer easily (easy ?) by press 1/2 or x2 buttons, from 1/16 to 512 beats :)
Doesn't that restart the loop?
can you use this controller without rekordbox? Just using all mp3
yeah sure, but it's way more handy with recordbox obviously
You can but the tempo of the songs will change slightly while playing and you don’t want that while transitioning. When they’re analyzed by rekordbox the tempo will be fixed.
Featherweight fader or not GD!?
that `power` instrumental..how to get it?? anyone??
can you add effcets units aswell like Pioneer RMX-1000 plz get bk ta me dude cheers
Works with laptop? And works with serato/traktor? thanks :)
+David Estrelinha you can use it with Traktor as a MIDI Controler.... This Pioneer will work as a Traktor S4, you wont see the trak names on the mixer.
Is it really worth it? It seems really cool!!!!
whats the music name ??? please
Can v attach laptop too????????
this is wrong, you're limited to 32gb flash drives because it only reads fat32 and fat16.
Pioneer players also read HFS+ disks, so you're not limited to 32GB.
Sander Kalsbeek you need an apple computer to format and read hfs+
That's correct. There are HFS+ drivers for Windows though.
Sander Kalsbeek really? I couldn't find, do you have the source where I can download them?
Just Google "Windows HFS+ driver". This should bring up the drivers made by Paragon.
Can i use external rekordbox ready 1 TB hardrive? If not what about xdj rx 2? I am choosing between these two. Thank you for answers.
It’s 5 years old would you say it’s worth 700 now?
I think the average price has actually gone up because of the covid 19 situation. From what I've seen, they are like £1000/£1100.
Karizma231 I bought one 2 weeks ago for 900
Good deal!!
good review
so useful, thanks!
Can i connect my E&S DJR Rotary mixer to this to control both platters instead of XDJ-RX mixer ?
Price
Only 2 channels on mixer, no split cue, only one display, no touch... fail.
So go spend10k on a 4 deck 2000 NXS setup then...
No Serato Dj?!
Fullly rekordbox operation
You can connect to a laptop use with Serato also
mine came on tuesday from decks.co.uk and ive had problems with it already (could be going back). it also feels cheaply made. but it does what it says on the tin. not worth £1200 imo.
u have me worried.. waiting for mine here in Greece in the next 10 days..
thank you
This cost at India in amazon is 1,89,000 rupees
VERY VERY THANKS DUDE AND CONGRATS YOU 100K SUBCRIBED
this is dope
Well first the esthetic I don't like it .it's too small ,too compact and I'm not comfortable with it . The price is so high also ! For this price you should buy XDJ 700 with a controller it's gonna be much better and it force you to work with two different lines ( better if you want to learn how to mix with vinyles)
DFTD!! 🤩🔊⚙️🎚
Ghost Channels! That is super random
budget end device ,don't be silly
You can even use the stupid thing. Never wasted that much money on something silly as what i did on this..
no 4 chanels no sampler bancs no needle search ddj-sx is better
who needs that ?
debatable, because you need a laptop with the ddj sx. whenever they drop the 4 channel version of this there will be absolutely no comparison
