Mack Wilberg directs The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square in the spiritual "The Battle of Jericho" arranged by Moses Hogan.
Lyrics:
Joshua fit the battle, the battle of Jericho
Joshua fit the battle, the battle of Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho, Jericho, Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls come tumbling down.
Talk about your kings of Gideon,
Talk about your men of Saul
But none like good old Joshua
And the battle of Jericho.
Right up to the walls of Jericho
He marched with spear in hand,
"Go blow that ram horn," Joshua cried,
"Cause the battle am in my hand."
Then the lamb-ram sheep horns begin to blow
And the trumpet begins to sound.
Joshua commanded the children to shout!
And the walls come a tumbalin' down.

This arrangement is no joke. We did this in a 50 person choir in high school and I had the pleasure of doing the descant “war cry” over the basses. It is tough and so beautiful. The energy at the end of the song is electric
my choir did this version of the song in HS and it was enchanting hearing the different parts come together in perfect synchrony, I love that about music
It occurs to me that the structure of this song is a symbolic replaying of the battle itself.
We get seven stanzas--representing the seven days of the battle--and then we get that incredible high note representing the blowing of the trumpets. Finally, the notes descend on "down," as if the notes are the walls of the city.
We're listening to the battle!
And you're named Joshua. Not sure if it's merely coincidence...
The song itself is a battle.
Lol. It is. We sang this a couple of years ago in my college choir and it was tough.
Yes it is. My chorus teacher said she wouldn't even attempt it.
I'm doing it at a High School level and aside from a couple jazz chords it's actually pretty easy.
Morpyoto i dont think its a matter of chords i think that for this song to sound good you need some very skilled and well trained tenors which are almost non existent at the high school level
Yeah, the organization of it and the soprano belt is meant to to imitate battle cries
that bass is just amazing.
washy ndege mmuziek
As a bass 2, this is a really fun song to sing!
That is the biggest organ I have seen in my entire life
One of the largest in the world
+Nicolas Fuentes The one in the next door tabernacle is even bigger oddly enough, lol!
+Maclean Samis Well, it depends on how you define the size of an organ. The tabernacle has more physical stops/pipes, but I believe the conference center organ has more if you add in the stops that are not played with physical pipes.

I love this song so much, I sung it in my choir consert it was such a fun piece
The woman at 1:42 has amazing vocal chords. I applaud you madam.
I sang this piece once with a 200 person choir, as a bass 2. The feeling at the end of this song was electric, and the woman who did the warcry after the repeat could be heard in the middle of the bass section over all of us. Its truly an incredible ending.
That was a literal Masterpiece and that woman at the end slayed
I heard this song in the choir coral festival a month ago, one highschool performed this and gosh it was the best performance out of the other schools who came
I have never had the PLEASURE of listening to this song before today, November 11, 2015. I LOVE this song. What spirit! WELL DONE. MOST RESPECTFULLY, Martha
My sister was singing the Japanese version of "Joshua Fit the Battle" when she was in the second year of junior high school.
For me, who thought that piano accompaniment was an integral part of the chorus, "The Battle of Jericho" was quite shocking.
Amazing.
We had the honor of performing this in high school with Moses Hogan. One of the most memorable events of my life.
Hey, me too! I remember he scolded me for having bad posture and not putting my all into a rehearsal.
Getting the most pleasant chills from this choir!
wow
💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
This was always a tough song to carry out. They bodied this performance. AMAZING SOPRANOS
I remember we singed this song back in 7th grade in chorus. Good times.......gooood timess
this is so beautiful but if i was in there you would hear like angels and then this one goat in the background
moe just stop
My mother directed the Male Chorus at our church, and she would have LOVED to hear these guys sing their part in this performance. A capella too? Oh yes, Honey. by ALL means!!!!!!!!!!
This was my favorite song we did in choir!
We did this in my junior year..took this to state competition . I loved performing this , the audience adored it every time
Jesus Christ loves you and all
I sang this song in 7th grade choir and I not only had to sing 3 different parts but I had to sing with the men as well because our choir didn't have enough boys
Moses Hogan was the man. My favorite Chorale composer of all-time
im so happy i chose this path in life ive never been in school without a choir class I love to sing
The tenor part is so great and they way they isolate the basses are so perfect
I love this choir.
Mormon Tabernacle Choir, number 1 in the world !!
1:20 was and is still my favorite part of this song, performing it was magical
As a middle schooler who is doing this song as a first time chorus student-very difficult😭
I’m surprised your choral instructor would have you performing such a piece. I’m doing this at the advanced choir for my high school.
Our little pitiful 8th grade choir is singing this next semester... wish us luck
Lmao we had our concert a day ago and it was so good like Lowkey
love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir - one of the greatest choirs in the world - what a treat that you share it with the world - Very grateful, Thank you
I love this choir too much
my school is singing this and so far it sounds fantastic but this is on an entirely new level!
My brother sang this arrangement in college. It's unbelievable in person!
I actually heard this arrangement on the radio and I was like, I have got to find it😳. And here it is on RUclips❤❤
Faith is the virtue by which, clinging to the faithfulness of God, we lean upon him, so that we may obtain what he gives to us
this is perfect for the come follow me readings for this week!
We are singing this in my 7th grade choir along with simple gifts.
OMG, the Soprani high note is wow.
Sometimes I'll listen to something I sang in high school choir and I'm amazed we were able to even do it.
Obviously not this well but darn, it's a difficult piece.
Did this my senior year 💜
I think the only thing that would make this version better is if the choir hit the "T" harder each time. This song doesn't quite feel right without really hard emphasis on the T.
Steve Jenkins you're right. If you choose "the," it's a hard "t" in "battle" or "water."
Do you mean the "tt" in the middle of "battle"? In spirituals the "t" is softened, to make the performance sound more authentic.
Not according to the person who arranged this Spiritual.
I just discovered that my school's choir did this the year before I joined. I might see what my director thinks about letting me conduct it next year. I've recently found an interest in trying and conducting a song during a future concert and I think I finally found the song I want to try.
The FINEST CHOIR in the WORLD.
Fellow brothers, sisters, and elders amazing. thank you from a fellow Mormon, may GOD continue to bless you forever more. amen :)
Aaron
Thank you Aaron. May God bless you as well.

LOVE this!! My favorite song to sing in my high school choir :-)
Que lindo!! Maravilhoso!!
Is it just me, or would this make an awesome power metal song?
Ben it probably would
Yes I was trying to get some guitarist to help me compose it but then I forgot
It already is! 😄💜
This the best rendition of Joshua Fit The Battle I have ever heard, (next to my own choir's, of course). Awesome, Awesome job!
great song
Wow! I got goosebumps this is incredible!
My 7/8th grade choir is doing this song. I'm in 7th grade and we're capable of doing this. I've never really thought about that! Good job choir!!!
Goosebumps. That was dope. God bless you.
i've watched this so many times
I have to sing this for choir!
And man this choir is huge!
Beautiful!!! I feel the Spirit in here!!! Glory to God!!! Amein, Amein and Amein!!
I’m nothing but a miserable man. Through his mercy , I had the opportunity to visit Salt Lake City and by 7 am in a cold Sunday morning I was there waiting to watch the MTC. It was a dream coming true. I could not believe , I was there in UTAH seeing all this angels singing to our lord. I’ll never forget.
1:15 Bass 😍
2:05 We will - We will - Rock you!!!
Wow... Simply amazing
Having performed this with a choirmaster whom worked with gentleman who arranged this, I decree that yes, this song is massive! I loved that this choir paid attention to dynamic markings. The only thing I noticed was this; Mr Hogan wanted particular attention paid to and the word “Battle” with accents on the T’s in “baTTle”. Sometimes I hear choirs pronounce this as “Baddle” instead of “BaTTle”. I’m also ok with the tempo being a tad slower than written because the audience has a chance to appreciate the complex chords and counter melody.
I sang this exact same arrangement last year. I still love this song.
I love
All I can say is WOW!!! Love this!! Thanks for sharing!
Did this piece on my church. Was in tenor and God only knows it is truly a Battle of Jericho XD
My favorite song I sung in Choir in school
This shit gives me the chills every time I listen to it
God bless those tenors at the end
Talk about the kings of Gideon
Talk about your men of Saul
But none like good old Joshua
At the battle of Jericho.
That morning Joshua fit the battle of Jericho.
I wish they did more Moses Hogan. His pieces deserve big choirs like this one.
I wish they do Hold On, Didn't My Lord Deliever Daniel, and Elijah Rock.
Fantastic
This is greatness !
The soloist is awesome !
great song, I will perform this song on 22nd Nov.
How'd the performance go?
fantastic!!!
Great Song!
That double octave leap at 1:40 gets me every time
It’s does!
I first heard this when I was 7 when the senior choir of my choral organisation sung this still remember this song
that's awesome especially the bass
Came here for the song, going to be looking into hearing those pipes in the backdround! those are some serious organ pipes!
I'm amazed, this choir is beautiful. I get goosebumps listening to them sing.
Well done I say! I like how musical this song is.
One of the choirs that i adore! :D
The correct rendition is from the Vocal Majority. Look it up. PERFECT.
