Dickens presents ignorance & want symbolizes the poor in victorian society, their inclusion in the story is meant to demonstrate how the poor have been forgotten and neglected by the middle and upper classes. This evokes familiarity and understanding of the poor, from readers and highlights the struggle of the poor. Dickens presents ignorance as a seemingly the result of human actions through the use the verb "doom" which is meaning distraction and causes the Victorian audiences which were mostly people with wealth) to recognise that (if they don't help and stay bliffully ignorant, the society and wealth they had accumulated would fall because revolution from the poor will happen. Within the extract the suffering of the poor is revealed when Scrooge meets the Ghost of Christmas present who presents them as they are "Yellow meagre, ragged, scowling. Wolfish..." Dickens" use of asyndeton is powerful in vividy depicting how sick and sinister the young fragile children looked. Much like Scrooge we as the reader are taken aback by their appearances as children who we meant to be vibrant in happiness and Youthful. Contexualy Dickens wanted to show to his Victorian reader that these Children who are meant to be full of life inside them, these Children from a young age, Life in Victorian England for the poor was often beset with difficulty and danger Often Children from the unfortunate Families would have to work rather spending time in Education, they would have to from around when they can walk and talk they would have to fight, trick and do whatever they can to survive, which Dickens is trying to evoke sympathy, it these children are not looked after by them, they will resort to violence or theft. Furthermore, the Ghost presents the suffering of the poor in a dangerous way, The Ghost warns Scrooge to 'beware them both.... but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom: The dangers of people from suffering poverty is effectively presented through the use of alliteration 'beware' This warning represents one of the terriable effects of poverty in Victorian England, which was the lack of Education for the Children. Contextually almost all poor people were unable to afford to the right education thus making them unable to read and write, which if their children wasn't going to school, they work work hard Labour and intense work to earn 1 or two pennys a day, hence most Children grew up to be illiterate adults who were trapped in a cycle of poverty. Consequently when they grow up they will turn their lives to crime to pay for their living. Dickens wealthy audience at the time would have sympathise with them but also changed the Stigma of that the poor was poor because they just didn't 'work hard enough' which led them to the streets but Dickens is emphasising that if they are not helped to ease the suffering of poverty they will start a revolution agonist the Wealthy upper class. Throughout the novella Dickens emphasises the suffering of the poor and the neglect of them in stave 4. "Scrooge listened to this dialogue in horror [.....] he viewed them with detestation and disgust, which could hardly have been greater" Dickens use of emotive language 'detestation and digest' portrays how the wealthy viewed the poor in intense dislike towards them because of the stigma that followed the poor, that they get drunk or too lazy to work however it is also likely that Scrooge and other wealthy people is so repulsed by what he has seen; stealing was in fact illegal, it is crimal behaviour of a sort of Scrooge or a wealthy Character would likely not have witness before. It is apparent that Dickens once again is that the extreme struggling poor people would likely tuned to desperation of money and criminality, Dickens makes the audience sympathise with them to turn into crime because they have been neglected and left to die by the Victorian society. Finally , the suffering of poor is presented elsewhere in the novella in Stave 3 where Dickens describe Tiny Tim, "And Tiny Tim upon his Shoulder. Alas for Tiny Tim, he bore a little crutch, and had his limbs supported by an iron frame!" the imagery Dickens is portraying is that Tiny Tim is suffering from malnutrition and possibly other typical diseases that Victorious would suffer from, but these are not diseases or illness caused by bad hygiene but rather they are caused by poverty, lack of sunlight lack of Vitamin D, lack of nutrieous foods, Bob is not described as a big man she quite Small 'In came little Bub, the Father' for him to be able to carry his son, is a suggest that Tiny Tim is small indeed, very undernourished, its led to poor development, then adding in the crutch and the leg irons, in a normal child that would be a significant weight but Bob is able to easily carry his child, again suggesting he is smart and underdeveloped from the lack of food and the poverty he is stuck with. Contexually Dickens chooses a child to bore the role of a diasibity and poverty, emphasising how could a innocent child be victim of poverty, again Dickens is trying to attack the stigma that the poor is Staying poor because of their Lazy habits, Which would have evoked sympathy towards their suffering. To conclude , Dickens presents the suffering of the poor to make us the reader now have a better understanding towards the less fortunate and the main audience of Dicken which is the victorians, to entertain but also to educate the wealthy middle and upper class. Sorry sir this is very long but it took around 50 and I would like you to mark it because my English teacher hasn’t responded yet and my mocks is tomorrow, if you see this what grade or mark would I have?
You won't want lots of advice from me at this stage. You understand the novel well, and link the extract well to the rest of the novel. Read the sentences out loud to work out where the wording needs changing. Use the word 'society' in your conclusion to explain how Dickens wanted to improve society. Good luck!
Hi, I am not sure if my comment is useful Your essay is good overall. But I think that you extend each idea too much. You should be more succinct. Instead you can develop varying ideas and interpretation for the same quote. And it's better to add more contextual reference such as debtor's prison , child labour, workhouse
very helpful video i have a few mocks coming up on Christmas Carol so this was on point XD, although I do think that sometimes it isn't best to try to add something about feminism as sometimes I just feel it doesn't fit in and looks forced, like I doubt Dickens chose Tiny Tim for the sympathy-evoking role because he was male, I feel like that was just a choice perhaps random or perhaps linking more to evoking sympathy in Scrooge, who himself was a little boy at one point in time. Nonetheless great vid and i think it will help with my mock :)

Excellent again.
So there's no need to analyse language within the quotes unless it's relevant to your interpretation of the writer's intentions?

Hi I was wondering is your channel suitable for the WJEC edquas exam board?
Yes, but check your exam question mark scheme, as there are some differences in the questions, but not the subject knowledge.
is adding secondary evidence being extra or is it good to use for extra marks?
If you use it to back up an interpretation, it is excellent, but otherwise it is wasted.
How can I send u an essay I wrote for u to use in ur videos?
