Downey explains the allure of the Carolina rig-a method that has held its popularity for decades. He emphasizes the importance of making long casts and fishing the presentation slowly and methodically across the bottom.
Using cutting-edge MEGA 360 sonar, Downey effectively identifies and targets isolated boulders-the prime hangouts for bass. Furthermore, he explains the power of forward-facing sonar in identifying productive spots rich in forage. While undoubtedly effective for targeting individual fish, Downey relies on live sonar to locate forage-rich areas. He then has the confidence to comb the bottom with his Carolina rig, arguably the finest mop-up bass presentation.
But the Carolina rig's beauty isn't just in its efficiency; it's in its subtlety. Downey details the challenge of detecting bites, how to set the hook, and the importance of the right gear. From the right rod length, optimal reel speeds, and preferred hook- every detail is covered, making this guide invaluable for novices and seasoned anglers.

No better time for a C rig than August!! The fish are wise, and best of all, the thermocline has put most bass in the 10-11’ range, perfect for power fishing a C rig!

My partner and I have won a lot of tournaments in our local bass club fishing the C-Rig.
Most of the other guys in our club are younger and we don’t see them using the C-Rig often.
    Thats Good!! 😊😊😊

I love the Carolina Rig! Especially now that I only fish from the bank. I can put a big weight, 1-1 1/2oz and just crawl it on the bottom. Make really long cast to cover more water than most from the bank. Allow me to feel what's on the bottom better and let's me find productive spot and eliminate unproductive water. Lately finding a lot of Smallmouth where I fish with it.

Thanks for contributing here and great point on it's utility for bank fishing.

I used it to great affect last fall with a BC II and crawling a berkley chigger craw. Picked off almost a dozen smallies from the bank doing this.

Many anglers don't like the Carolina rig. I have always liked it, plus a MOJO rig. I consider it as a finesse Carolina rig. Great content. Excellent video.

Thanks for sharing! Yeah, it's still the deal in many situations. Bob did a terrific job breaking it down in detail.

Thank you for correctly describing structure rather than saying cover. So many people have no idea what they are fishing.

Old Bob is pretty tight and right on the details 🧠.

So for those who miss those C rig bites, try braid for your main 30lbs then go floro or heavy floro tends to ride the bottom, mono floats..I fish a river so 40lbs braid main a 15lbs mono and it's perfect, very few missed bites and you can tell the difference between muscles beds and rock...

What's the purpose of a fluro leader to fluro main line when the line weights are that close together?

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  11 месяцев назад

A lot of angler's will go a little lighter for the lure section for perceived better action // more floatation because of the reduced line diameter and weight. Some may also consider less visibility as a benefit, but for most, it's an action thing.

I like the Carolina rig but what I’m really wondering about is how you got that Ultrex to behave so well on that slick water. When I have no wind like that my Ultrex just turns back and forth and back and forth. Annoying

It could be your GPS Signal cutting in and out or it could be set too sensitive. Mine would move around in circles super fast in the beginning on slick days like you say. Until I adjusted to spot lock sensitivity and I haven’t had issues since. It’s still not as smooth as this man’s though. He’s gonna something set beautifully.

@@A1K3NFISHING I didn’t even know you could adjust the sensitivity. Lol. I’ll look into that. Thanks!

In my part of the country it is a bass fishing sin to not have a Carolina rig tied on this time of year.
